: What size tires you rollin' on?
JeepJim 02-24-2008, 11:20 AM Ok so out of curiosity I am wondering what size tire you are running for offroad. Either now or if your currently upgrading or building your Patriot, what do you plan on putting on it?
The sizes that should work with out major modifications are:
245/65/17
235/65/17
225/65/17
225/70/17
215/65/17
215/60/17
245/70/16
235/70/16
225/70/16
225/75/16*
215/75/16
215/70/16
I can't see going any smaller than this...
* = looks to have the best mud and all terrain treads available.
I'd also appreciate if you vote to post a profile photo showing how your patriot looks with those sized tires on it.
JeepJim 02-25-2008, 06:31 AM wow, 33 views and only two votes...
JeepJim 02-25-2008, 02:40 PM I just ordered my 245/65R17s and voted on those. I'll post photos in about one month as that will be probably be the first chance I get to install my lift, and tires. Thats also as long as the tires and lift kit get here in time. God my work schedule sucks...
playbak 02-25-2008, 03:20 PM I'd vote but my size isn't an option
JeepJim 02-25-2008, 03:44 PM what size is do you run playbak?
playbak 02-25-2008, 04:07 PM I will be running 255/60/17's. I'm 99% sure they'll fit without modification to the fenders. However if need be I can adjust them.
JeepJim 02-26-2008, 06:09 AM wow, are you sure, cause one of the guys running 245's is reporing his rub already when turning and with 255's that would be a half inch wider, which could cause more problems. Height wise I don't see an issue its width wise that I do... Ofcourse this could probably be elleviated if you use a different back spacing.
playbak 02-26-2008, 03:54 PM Backspacing should not be an issue. The wheels are 8" wide and have 4 7/8" BS (or +10mm offset).
I'm more concerned with the tires rubbing on the outside. With the tire I figure the wheel will stick out another 2".
Grabbed this from another thread:
I have 255/35/22 for my summer wheels which is wider and taller than 235/50/18 and they fit O.K. My wheels didn't come with the proper offset so I bought spacers to move the wheel out 8mm which should get rid of the rubbing issue at extreme cornering. The wheels are 8.5" wide and are +38mm.
I also talked to another guy running 235/65/17 on 8" wide rims with 0.6" more BS (or +26mm offset). That calculates to .6" less inside space. So I figured that would compensate for the extra width of a 255 series tire.
patman16 02-26-2008, 09:22 PM Can anyone tell me what would fit better on my riot 4x2 with no lift and with out hurting my car LT235/70R16 or LT225/75R16
patkilla 03-06-2008, 01:22 AM nothing except the same size. get a lift if you want bigger tires
Jeepster55 03-06-2008, 07:22 AM i posted this info somewhere else on this site, so i won't go into details.
some things to keep in mind when changing wheels and tires....
1) weight of the new tire. i've seen some increase their tire/wheel weight by as much as 43LBS per wheel. this can only put added stress on your powertrain.
check the weight of your new tire as well as the size.
2) mods.....be very careful as to what you 'modify' to make your tire/wheel combination fit. also keep in mind that when adding a 'back spacer' you are not only putting greater distance between the wheel and the hub BUT increasing your turning 'arc' which will cause your tire to be further back or forward when turning hard left or right.
there's a lot to consider when upgrading to larger tires or wheels. think it through first before you rush out to buy a set of Mud Terrains and expensive wheels. you may find out you can't use them and can't return them as well.
REPUBLIC 03-06-2008, 08:52 AM I am looking for the size closest to the odd ball stock
size that does the least to the speedometer reading & no lift kit required
& is the cheapest due to mass production. I want a common size ,I don't need to special order a tire if I have probs on the road..
There I go wanting again........
mearnest 03-07-2008, 08:10 PM 245/75/16 Goodyear MTR's.
jason-1900 03-08-2008, 01:50 AM Posted this on another thread;

I'll get back with this thread after i get back from Lapland (in three week's time:D)
