I've been looking around these forums for awhile and noticed a thread asking about the middle dome light. I have an '08 Limited Patriot but it doesn't have a dome light in the middle. Is this a feature only in Europe, or is it missing for some reason from my car? Thank you for the help.

I have the 08 Limited as well. I have the middle dome light, but do not have the sunroof. It is my understanding that you lose the middle dome light if you have the sunroof.

I've got every option except the sunroof, so that's weird. Maybe I should bring that up with my dealer. Do you know anywhere that it says that I'm supposed to have that light?

I have an '08 with a sunroof and a middle light. The front has two map lights (with buttons), the back has the "flashlight" and the middle has dome light that comes on with the doors, keyless entry or steering wheel light switch... 3 lights total, which is very nice. The whole Jeep gets bright when all three come on.

I also have an '08 without the middle light. My research seemed to show that the limiting factor is actually the garage door opener buttons (on non-sunroof headliners). I don't remember the actual option codes right now, but if you had the garage door opener buttons, those headliners don't have the middle light. I've been tossing around the idea of adding the middle light on my own. It's been done by others, and looks and works like the factory installed version. Shouldn't be very difficult either...

I added the middle light to mine. I used the two buttons light from the front so I can individually turn on the light.

Just to chime in, I have an '08 Limited with sunroof, garage door opener buttons, map lights, middle dome light, and rechargeable flashlight in the cargo area.

I found out by accident that you can turn them off using the turn signal/light stem on the left side of the steering wheel. But you're right, I'm also surprised that the middle dome light doesn't have an on/off switch on the light itself.

FYI...I have the Garage door opener controls and the middle light. With all the units that I looked at side by side, the only ones without the middle light had sunroofs...but again there are some people who have the middle light and the sunroof...so it seems like it was up to what mood the installers were in that day as to whether you get the light or not? :doh:

Another thought, should you be able to get a hold of another front light (with the map light buttons) and swap out the middle unit with it...would it function as designed? That's something I'd consider in the future....

It seems that most '08 people have the light, but a few like me are missing it. Maybe some of the first manufactured '08s were missing it?

At the Jeep website under Patriot specs, you can see it lists:
Map/Dome Reading Lamps
Front Dome Lamp
Interior Removable/Rechargeable LED Flashlight

But those don't clearly say that one of the dome lights is in the middle. I guess I'll just have to ask my dealer about it and hope for the best. Thanks for the input everyone.

I know this is an older thread but...I have on 07 Sport 4x4 no sunroof or garage door opener, and alas no middle dome light. On that note I am wondering how hard will it be to install a dome light in the middle, are the wires already there, or would I have to splice into the front dome/map lights? My Patriot is dreadfully dark inside at night (almost pointless to even have lights) I have seen to courtesy/floor lights and defiantly want to install them but I think the dome light would provide more light easier and cheaper.

I just bought a used 2008 Sport, 26E, that has the middle dome light in it. The original sticker says "Map/Dome Reading Lamps" under the heading of "Customer Preferred Package 26E." Could it be that vehicles ordered with this package has the middle dome light in it? Also, does anyone have the part number for the front light, with the buttons on it? Thanks!
