I didn't know Canada had them too? I know we have plenty of them here in the states but it seems none of the Patriots are up for the challange. :confused:

I'm going here in a few weeks. Lots of fun!

They are back after an absence. The website is a bit light on details though. A lot of us Americans ran these in the late 90's when currency exchange made them a bargain compared to the US Jamborees. One year my buddy was lucky enough to win the Warn winch giveaway. With currency exchange being pretty close now, the $195.00 still looks good, but they really don't spell out what's included like how many meals, t-shirt, prize giveaways, lodging options, etc. I'll be keeping an eye on this as it's a good time of year for us to go and it's only about a 3 hour drive. Summer is just too busy.

cdrift, were you one of the 29 that registered?

Jimmy., Pat,
I am cancelling the Port Alberni Jamboree for this year.
I have held off as long as possible and we have beat the bushes all over the west.
Once all lists were reconciled and cleaned over the past weekend our overall activity is as follows;
29 registrations (that are legitimate)
18 customers that have paid.
I needed a critical mass of at least 50 to make this event work.
Traditionally “walk-on” traffic at these events represents less than 5% of total registration.
As I spoke last week, we have experimented with traditional newspaper and even radio advertising in the past for Jamborees and these methods have never brought any direct registration to our events."
I have personally connected with all the 4 x 4 Clubs and shops and most are very supportive – however, this has not produced results.
I will be issuing an email notification to all our registrants and begin refunding all paying customers 100% of their registration monies – including any PayPal fees that they paid.
In other words Jeep Jamboree will be out of pocket more money than we have collected.
I will be in touch with Doug next.
Further I will contact our sponsors and let them know the situation.
In talking to a lot of people in the last week, we have noted two things that seem to have hurt our registrations;
1 holding the event on a long weekend (July 1st/Jul 4th)
2. cost of the ferry from the mainland.
My suggestion is that we do a post mortem on this event and see if we mutually want to proceed for 2011.
Regretfully,
Ron Baker

The original Karwarthas jam at Bobcaygeon was on the long weekend in early July and demand was strong enough to fill it and run the following weekend as well. As mentioned earlier though, the ranks were greatly supplemented by a lot of Yanks taking advantage of the dollar difference. There's also a lot more web wheelers now who have no intention of trail running, but will post on 4x4 websites anyway, inflating the actual demand for trail runs and off road products.

Thanks for that weblink joesjeeps. I was just curious if anything might be in the works for a "light" summer break so I peeked in here. I would have liked to see something somewhere between these two but I might consider the Kawarthas if I can get away in September (a good two day drive for me).
