: Thinking of buying a Patriot :P
urslow 02-11-2008, 10:23 PM Hi all :)
I have been thinking of changing cars for a while now and after seeing my fathers Honda CRV i have been thinking of buying a Bigger car/SUV/Truck/4x4/?? that has a bit more room for me my wife my baby and my golf clubs :P...i hate going on hols and not being able to take my clubs because of pram/bags/baby crap..lol
I dont need a 4x4 for hardcore offroading but like camping and the odd bush bash would be nice.
I currently have an XR6 Turbo and am not really looking to do 100km/h in 4 seconds anymore as 20l/100km is rediculous.
I saw a Jeep Patriot Limited the other day in Mount Gravatt (Brisbane) and creamed my pants (not really) had to drive past a few times to see what it was..lol...it was silver with 20" rims and looked HOT!!
I thought to myself i gotta go onto google and check that out (expecting a 50k price tag i was shocked!!)
Fuel economy, more room and it looks good with semi-off road option :P i like.
Ive looked at FORD, HOLDEN, NISSAN, HONDA and fuel economy and price there is a huge difference..JEEP is ontop on looks/fuel and price everytime.
WHATS THE CATCH?????
Is this the car for me is the question..i know power isnt going to be the 450hp i have now but im over that...
I want....
Fuel economy
Servicing that doesnt cost $1000 a pop (Is it similar to a Falcon service in price??)
Good looks
Comfortable
Good price
Room for 2 kids/bags travelling with my golf clubs :P (Much more room than a Sedan boot?)
Decided on if i purchase a..
Limited
Manual
Unsure of Diesel or Petrol yet.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. (Problems, experiences aswell etc)
Dave
urslow 02-11-2008, 11:07 PM ALSO...
Patriot Sport Diesel
OR
Patriot Limited Petrol
Same price....
Is there MUCH difference between sport and Limited AND Petrol and Diesel.
I want fuel economy but am worried that the diesel will be a little sluggish and maybe more expensive to serice because of turbo??
HoosierRon 02-11-2008, 11:42 PM I recommend a diesel with a manual. The automatic transmission is a CVT, and it has received mixed reviews at best. The diesel should be fine performance-wise with the manual, and you will get noticeably better mileage.
urslow 02-12-2008, 01:26 AM Well.......i went to a dealership today and a Barina has more boot space >.<
The Patriot is not for me :(

Diesel is only available with 6 speed manual. or is that what you're trying to say?
urslow, I just changed from a "turbo six" to a pat too.
economy in the petrol is closer to 11.5L/100km around Brisbane (lots of hills and stuff here).
I've heard some crazy stories about how long you'll wait to get what you want in a patriot. I was quoted 3 months just to get the upgraded sound system.
I got a great price from carbroker.com.au, sold to me through Albion Chrysler Jeep.
I see a few pats around, would be happy to show you mine, I work in the city.

until you put the seats down!
wheels 02-12-2008, 08:17 AM Hi all,
while in the topic of purchasing a new PATRIOT, I've been thinking of getting one, particulary the Limited diesel.
I've heard some info from many people in this forum that the PAT have some issues with built quality. Can anyone that own a PAT here in Australia share their experiences with the vehicle? issues, etc?
I currently drive a 2000 Subaru Liberty & I never have any issues with it, except with the clutch. It failed only after 2 yrs of ownership, but Subaru came clean & said it was a production error. They replaced it with a better quality clutch free of charge.
I realised that the PAT is a new addition to the JEEP line & issues may arise, but I dont want to have to go back & forth to the dealership to get things fixed.
Thanks guys!
tasar 02-12-2008, 08:32 AM Have had a diesel crd ltd for almost 6 months
done 8500k
not an issue apart from a few stalls when the engine was new
and a small piece of blackglue on the sunroof shutter - looks silly on a white background
the car is really easy to clean inside and out (the interior is great just damp cloth aand a wipe) we have a german sheperd - she goes in the back and just brush the back out - old cars had too spend hours get hair out of carpet
the crd really shows it teeth once the engine runs in after 5000k's
fuel economy is amazing getting aroung the 7l per 100k consistently even in melbourne heavy traffic
have got doen to 6.3l on a trip from melb to colac and back
so get 600 to 750k per tank of 45 litres
wheels where abouts are you based?
Patriot CRD rocks

lol..yeah...problem is i have a child and with a baby seat the seats remain up :(
I was VERY shocked at the limited boot space. My Falcon had twice the room

I'd like to add, if you should get any residual cream on the seats, the state of the art fabric should allow for easy clean-up!!!

With the 60/40 split rear seats that fold flat when needed in the Patriot, you can customize the seating arrangement several different ways that will provide plenty of room for you, mommy and baby, with room left over for golf clubs!
I took a look at the 5-Door Holden Barina online, and notice the standard model has a 76 HP / 1.6 litre engine. Doesn't seen that will provide a lot of get up and go there.
Here's a pic of a Barina 5-door...

neilcrichton 02-12-2008, 09:40 PM Is this the same car as the baby Honda? Looks like you could put a dozen of these in an egg carton.

yeah room is limited with seats up.
I have 3 kids and managed to fit in enough gear to go to Townsville (from brissy) for Xmas. however I needed to buy a roof pod to bring back all the extra crap from Xmas :)
I did manage to fit in a basketball backboard, base and pole on the weekend.
Go on sell the taxi and get a Pat!

It's known as the Chevrolet Aveo it other parts of the world.
HoosierRon 02-13-2008, 12:09 AM According to www.jeep.com, the Patriot has 23.0 cubit feet of cargo room behind the second seat.
According to www.chevrolet.com, the Aveo (Barina) 5 door has 7.0 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seat.
tasar 02-13-2008, 05:44 AM don't forget you can put 80kg on the roofracks - get a rhino roof and good spot for the golf clubs
this can be taken off when not needed
the interior is extremely flexible especially with all but the drivers seat can be flat
I know you can eeasilt fit a 4 draw filing cabinet in the back
the big advantage is the height
