: No AutoStick w/the CVT?
Kozmotoo 01-22-2007, 09:52 PM I suspect the AutoStick feature is available only in the Compass, and not in the Patriot or Caliber. Does anyone know if this is true? I've looked at the interior photos at Jeep.com and Dodge.com, and they appear to show this is the case.
Fuzz40 01-22-2007, 10:57 PM The autostick will be in the Patriot and it is already in the Caliber. I had the Caliber R/T for a week with the CVT and it came with the Autostick.

With the CVT?!?!? I must simulate gear shifts than, if I understand the CVT correctly.

You are correct. It simulates gear shift with the CVT with 6 pre-determined gear ratios. One thing I was surprised about was how fast the shifts happen. It shifted pretty quickly through the gears, but wouldn't let you select a gear that would bog or over rev the engine.
Sergio 01-23-2007, 11:56 AM I thought the CVT was gear-less? if it just tightens and adjusts the pulley ...how does it shift...
PatriotFan 01-23-2007, 12:03 PM Your right it doesnt shift. The CPU has 6 preset pully combinations. When you tell it to shift the pullys change thus repositioning the belt to give the next "gear". Its hard to get away from the old terminology tho.
I will attest to the smoothness of the CVT. It is seemless. Hit the pedal watch the RPM jump and stay there. No high/low revs just a consistent pull. Takes a while to get used to. I'm gonna do a few move test drives for sure.
PatriotFan 01-23-2007, 12:12 PM Autostick -
Sorry to be the one with bad news: there is no autostick in the patriot. The compass Limited gets this feature only. The cvt in the compass limited is 1150 US or 1300 cdn. in the patriot limited its only the cvt at 1050 US.
Also all interior pics of the limited I have seen do not have the left right openings near the bottom of the transmission shifter that allow for the autostick.
bottom line. no autostick cvt in the patriot.

You are right. I figured since the caliber and compass had it the patriot would have it as well. Good find on that bit of news.
DenverDude2002 01-23-2007, 07:16 PM There is an autostick feature for the patriot, its on jeeps' website. As for the CVT smoothness, we had a caliber for a week as a rental car and it was hard to come back to a non CVT car. I loved how smooth it was and never feeling it shift.
unclejjg 01-23-2007, 08:18 PM Not for nothing....who the hell would want the auto stick? It is about as useful as the Fisher Price steering wheel my father used to hook up to the passenger side of his truck for me to play with when I was 3.....the wheel spins and the horn beeps, but it doesn't do anything useful.
As we all know: there are no gears! Why pretend there are?
PatriotFan 01-23-2007, 10:31 PM Got a source Denver Dude? Never seen/heard of the autostick as an option for the Patriot.

Sounds like a guy who has never experienced AutoStick. It locks the variators (pulleys) at programmed gear ratios and the engine revs speed up the car. Just like a clutchless manual transmission. Would you say there's no use for a manual transmission?

I had an engineer buddy look up the sales codes. He confirmed that the Patriot does not get the AutoStick, but some export vehicles do. I have heard Europeans like manual transmissions...
Fuzz40 01-25-2007, 01:10 AM Crap, I liked fooling around with the Autostick once in awhile. It was really fun to shift the gears in the caliber with the Autostick. Maybe it might some how accidently end up installed on my Patriot.

Go for it, guy! Get the manual tranny ... get way better performance, improved control, better fuel economy, save over a grand ... life is short, live the adventure!

Well the patriot is already on order so I can't really get the manual this time around.
superdave 01-26-2007, 07:26 PM I've read some professional reviews on the Compass that say the autostick really improves accelleration. I wish you could get a 4x4 Patriot in a manual.
PatriotFan 01-26-2007, 10:16 PM FDI you can get manual. (4x4)
FDII can't. (off road 4x4)
I am tempted to stick with FDI for this reason alone. If I go CVT its FDII all the way.
mariobox 01-29-2007, 11:01 PM The official line of the "marketing brains" is that they have to "simulate" the gear changes so that the average Joe doesn't think there is anything wrong with the transmission. Sort of llike the first digital cameras, that activated a "click" sound file so you could be sure that you had taken the picture...Just a bunch of BS to me if you ask me...Give people the real thing and let them learn to deal with it...
johnda 08-06-2007, 10:52 AM I'm bringing this discussion back to life now, because the 08 Patriot is now out. I'll be ordering mine in a little over a week from now if everything goes according to plan. The 08 Patriot does have autostick, BUT it does not come with the trail rated CVT. Presumably because the crawler low does not go with autostick. I'm betwixt and between on trail rated or not. We will not be climbing rocks, but we will be possibly driving through snow or nor easters with heavy flooding. The extra height and fording ability of trail rated, plus the other extras of the trail rated unit appeal to me. Is autostick worth skipping those trail rated extras? Any opinions out there?
Everyone's Envy 08-06-2007, 04:24 PM That's weird since we have members who picked up their 2008 and they have the autostick, the member even posted pictures!!!
johnda 08-06-2007, 05:08 PM I'm not sure I understand what you are saying about "That's weird" I also saw the autostick on the 08, but it was a non-trail rated version.
From what I have been seeing, It seems you have a choice of either having the trail rated car without autostick or a non-trail rated car with autostick( or the 5 speed stick). I would LOVE it if you could get autostick with the off road package, but I do not see that combination being available.
Am I incorrect? CAN you get autostick with the off road package?

I said that's weird because of the comment were it said that there was no autostick since I had just read a post where the user said he had picked up his 2008 with autostick. I'm usure of the trail rated version... we have ordered the FWD. We are in Montreal, Canada and not much off road in our neck of the woods. I We will have ours end of August, guess its best to wait and see if we have it or not. Good luck!
johnda 08-06-2007, 06:57 PM I think that may be my fault. I picked up on this thread, but this thread was started when the 2007's had come out, and the 2008's hadn't been announced yet. At that time autostick was not available for the Patriot. I thought by picking up on that thread with the information that autostick was now available the folks who started it could be updated. I guess I should have just started a fresh thread. Sorry bout the confusion. I am still deciding, if the autostick isn't available with the off road package, which package I should get.
Congrats on your black beauty, soon to be delivered. I saw a black one at my dealer and it was sharp! Don't forget to put up some pictures!
