I don't mind the low height. The liberty is way too high. Low roof equals less wind resistance and it's easier to put a kayak up top, not too mention washing/waxing.

The only thing I don't like is the wheels. P215 is too small for this vehicle, should have been P225 or P235. I'd like to lift one 2 inches and throw some P235's on there.

I was just about to write pretty much the same posting... word for word. I think that shorter combined with 9" ground clearance means it is more stable on the side hills due to the lower center of gravity.

The wheels definately need to be upgraded... the rims are ok but there needs to be more meat under there with a more agressive tread. Not too much... just a little more though.

All in all,,, it looks great!

Thanks for posting them.

I personally find those rims hideous, I like the sports much much better.

I can't wait to see one in person and see if the waiting has been worth it.

I also hope that the guy in the 4th pic is like 7 feet tall.

tommcg
01-18-2007, 10:14 AM
that is a sport model ... but the wheels are the aluminum's ... the only other wheels offered are the styled steel. i'm really surprised & disappointed that they're only offering alloys in that dark gray. i guess i can look for compass sport wheels on ebay (appear to be the same but not painted dark gray) and switch ... or wait a year until they realize their mistake ...

I am not going to sweat their looks since they will be covered with mud most of the time anyways...

It looks like it is about the same height as the little truck next to it... what is that an old S-10?!?!?

Jason, do you have any pics of the Patriot next to another vehicle for comparison?

Sparrow
01-18-2007, 05:21 PM
If you go to JEEP.com you will see that the height of a patriot is 64" including the roof rail , making the roof around 5 foot high . A 2-3" lift with bigger tires might put the roof to eye level to a 6 foot man . Sorry for the disappointment.

The wheels are very similar to the old Cherokee Classic wheels. I don't think that was on accident. ;)

I snapped a couple of cell phone pics of a Compass next to a Cherokee today. I thought of you guys when I did. :D Give me a bit and I'll see if I can figure out how to get the pics off my phone and onto the computer.

Ok...let's see how well this worked.

Sorry for the quality...they're cell phone pics, after all. And had I been there to coordinate the parking of these two vehicles, they would have lined up much better. :) I didn't take any front or back pics in order to protect license plate info.

Here are pics I took today when I saw a Compass parked next to a Cherokee.

I will if the rain lets up!!!! rear vis. is better than the compass. The 4x4 lock is a t-lever like the compass, commander and grand cherokee..there is no nuetral so flat towing is out..

All the offroad ones do, the limiteds and the sports seem to be the same. Some are labled onroad and look lower to the ground, the 1" lift is very noticable. The base patriots are here too, there is a photo of a red one as a avitar. I'll get pics of the small base wheels...

If you noticed he said by request, it wasn't a demand. Also DCX is just doing what every other car company does. I remember when GM went crazy about the new camero pictures leaked over the internet. I don't understand why they request these pictures to be removed, we all know what the Patriot looks like so it isn't anything new.

wow. very disappointing, dcx. you want us to wait for media coverage of this press event? i read several car blogs, and only one of them, a dedicated jeep site, ever mentioned the compass press event. i had to search youtube to find just a couple of videos from it. honestly, no one really cares that the patriot is having a press event this week except for a few loyal guys huddled around this site, so why would you be jerks about it?

some car companies are faking real world, behind-the-scenes shots like this (see Buick's Tiger Woods video with the "angry" security guard) just to get grassroots coverage out to the masses, and dcx is apparently still living in the 90's. C'mon Jason Vines, you know better than that.

I have been somewhat disappointed and dismayed to see that Jeep Marketing has not openly participated in this forum. When the Caliber was in pre-launch there was a specific Dodge Marketing person assigned to the main Caliber board and there were regular informational postings from him. Especially when it came to correcting wildly off base information and speculation. Wonder why Jeep did not do this? I thought Dodge did a really good job with that tactic. Kind of offered something concrete to that community. I thought it was rather small and somewhat pathetic that Jeep put the lid on jdemonto and his efforts to SELL vehicles for them. Shame on you Jeep Marketing. New blood is needed in that department!

Maybe Jason needs to protect his job here. I don't know what Jason does for the dealership but I can only imagine the pressure he could get from some big shots at DCX if they discovered something being posted they didn't like. Jason was never shy about who he is or where he works. Jason, if I were you I wouldn't identify myself on these sites for awhile.
Keep feeding us info and go by the name "Bob" or something.

That is true, I can see what you are saying and it is very disappointing that Jeep Marketing isn't embracing this forum like they did with the caliber forum. Times have changed and it would be nice if car companies realized these forums exists and use them as change to get in touch with there customers. What better chance do they have to get in touch with the people who buy, own, and use these vehicles.

Whose to say that marketing is the one with the heavy hand in this case?

It is 'in production' but not officially introduced... sort of like peeking at your presents before you were supposed to open them... I can see how the one putting them out there would like the first intro to be on their terms and don't fault them.

I want to see one just as bad as anyone else here... trust me on this...
