I'm hoping to get it in 4-5 weeks. They said they would give me a VIN in a couple of days so that I can track it-pretty cool.

Option Info
Limited 4wd base msrp 21175 invoice 19749
manual trans - because I like control - haven't owned at automatic since 1990 - too bad Trail Rated doesn't come in manual - would have considered it

sunroof msrp 800 invoice 736
9 speakers msrp 495 invoice 455
green color msrp 150 invoice 138
trailer hitch msrp 130 invoice 120
floor mats msrp 30 invoice 28

I paid a bit more than the invoice but not anywhere near the MSRP from Ralph's Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep in Prince Frederick, MD.

I'll post a pic, but you'll probably start seeing them at your dealership before or by the time I get mine.

OOOhhhhh! I'm so jealous! :D See...I'm green with envy!

I can't wait to see pics! And thanks for listing the invoice prices. Hubby and I will be getting a discount when we order....waaaay at the end of 07 or beginning of 08, so it's good to know what we can look at for pricing.

Congrats on your purchase! I can't wait to hear how it drives!!

Picked up the Patriot Friday and we headed off the to slopes. Gas milage is great as we used only about one tank of gas for about 320 miles. The ride is very smooth and you can catch yourself speeding as it doesn't seem like you are going that fast. I like the car to be responsive and have a feel of the road, the Patriot seems to have the right mix of being able to feel the road but not feel bumpy. The seats are much more comfortable than the Cherokee and my kids are jealous of our "butt warmers" which work very quickly.

My wife is 5'2" and I am 6' so we had some different opinions about the seats. She felt the headrest was in a bad position and very uncomfortable. I didn't bother me at all. Even though I am 6' I raised the driver seat for better visibility. Another post mentioned the black paint over the glass in the back. If you look from the inside, it really only covers about an inch on the left and right side and none on the top or bottom of your rear view. The side rear windows are smaller that the Cherokee but not much. The biggest difference in visibility is the side mirrors. Both are about twice the size of the Cherokee and I was able to see really well without any blind spots. We drove on the DC beltway on our way up so visibility is vital.

I don't like the position of the gear shift, I think it is too far forward and too high. Once I raised the seat it was better. I need to push the armrest forward to be able to rest my elbow and shift at the same time. The shift is long more like a truck than a car, but similar to what the Cherokee was. The clutch pedal doesn't come up as high as the Cherokee and feels more like the clutch in a car than a truck. My wife liked the position of the gear shift better than the Cherokee but couldn't rest her elbow and reach the gear shift at the same time.

I saw a guy in a Mercedes station wagon checking my car out on the trip, he turned his head several times and sped up so that he could see it. I stopped by a friends house on the way home (he was also a Cherokee owner). He is now excited about getting one, especially after I told him the price. He guessed I had paid 30K for it.

I'm a little disappointed with the height and overall size of the cargo area. I there is wasted space under the cargo mat and I really liked the spare being up against the rear window in the Cherokee. They should have kept that feature. I still would have bought a new Cherokee sport 4d manual w/FWD instead of the Patriot, but I think this is the next best option out there now, especially for the price.

Thanks for the report. It does look like the shifter is too far forward. Did you buy in the DC area? From where?

An aftermarket shifter handle might work better....

I was wondering what the manual shifter would look like, since I think that's what I'll be getting. Wow...weird.

Thanks for the pics! I'll be getting a sunroof too, I'm sure.

Anyone have pics of the controls on the steering wheel??

Stroh,

Thanks for the info....our local dealer got a manual Compass in and I also thought that the gear shift might be kind of awkward in that position...but I guess it's something you will get used to over time...

How about a picture of the entire vehicle?

I purchased the Patriot from Ralph's in Prince Frederick, MD. They didn't have any others as of Friday but they said they ordered some the same day I ordered mine.

The controls on the steering wheel are actually behind the steering wheel, both on the left and right side. I don't think my camera would be able to focus that close to get a decent picture of it.

I meant to get a pic of the whole car at the ski place with snow in the background but forgot the battery. Now it has salt on it so I don't want the Jeep guys getting mad at me for putting a picture of a dirty jeep on the site. ;)

Can anyone try to get a picture of the controls on the steering wheel. I'm just curious as to their placement. I think it's interesting how the manual shifter looks in comparison to the automatic. I'm just excited for them to hit here in Utah. I carry my camera with me everyday so when the dealer calls me I can have my own pictures! But how did the Patriot handle the canyon? Was there any snow? I'm excited to actually have a vehicle perform well in those conditions!

So I answered all my own questions minus the snow issue. The 1st patriot arrived in Utah today & I got to take it for a spin. When I got behind the whel it only had 7 miles on it. What a feeling. The controls are behind the wheel on the side. They are small & will get some taking used to. The manual shifter looks much different when you're in the driver seat for sure. Can't wait to order my own! Let's just hope it's faster then they're quoting me of 6-8 weeks.
