Wondering what model of the Patriot will bring in the best resale value down the road?

Do you think the trail-rated version will be the most highly valued down the line or the 4x4 without the off-road group (which has a little better gas mileage)? ....or do you think there won't be much difference among any of them?

If one were to draw parallels to the Cherokee, the rarer Cherokees are those in most demand such as the two door and 5 speed. The "simpler" two door is lighter in weight than the four door and sought after for SCCA rallying and other modding. Similarly, the 5 speed is lighter but also much quicker than the auto while also providing better fuel economy. But, if/when the Patriot "export" diesel becomes available with the six speed manual, that indeed will the most desired model as it will provide essentially the same torque as the 4.0; but the turbo diesel and six speed will outperform the 4.0 given the more generous torque distribution, the ability of the blower to compensate for altitude, and the ease with which blown diesels can be "chipped" for performance. Also, given the current aftermarket for the Cherokee, I suspect suspension mods will be prevalent for the Patriot.

With other vehicles, the more expensive packages hold a higher value... take the Chevy trucks.. the base 2wd has a lower resale than the base 4x4 which in turn had a lower resale value than the 4x4 with the Z-71 off road package.

I believe that the FDII package will be among the higher priced 'previously owned' Patriots.

I wouldn't mind getting a manual tranny but I'm a little worried that it won't have as good a resale value as the CVT 2-4 years down the road, whenever I trade it in...due to (what I expect to be) a lower demand for the manual...

Thanks. I wasn't sure if they were warning drivers to protect the penguins from being run over or warning the drivers of possible sneak attacks from penguins lurking below their vehicles! or if they have a habit of escaping the area by clinging onto the bottom of vehicles.
