Hello all -
Yes...I said Heep. It's a term of endearment, though, going back 10 years to my best friend's Cherokee. It was a Heep...but well loved. It was a sad, sad day the day it finally gave up the ghost.
Years go by, and he's finally landed another Jeep - this one a Liberty. I'm so jealous!! I still drool over Cherokees when I see them on the road or in a parking lot. We both still mourn the day Jeep stopped production on the Cherokee, but I celebrated when I found out that they were producing the Compass and Patriot.
Their marketing got to me...I wanted the Compass at first. (I know, I know...it appeals to the chicks.) Hubby (another former Cherokee owner) said that they'll never be able to replace the Cherokee...except with another Cherokee...but if he had to be seen behind the wheel of one of the two, he would rather it be the Patriot. (See...the marketing worked on him, too...the Patriot is supposed to appeal to the guys!)
SO...now that Hubby has his dream sports car, and his project car...and plans to get a beat-up SUV to tow said project car and haul stuff in...I get to get what I want. Thus...2008 is the Year of the Heep in my household!
(There was a moment of anxiety before Hubby decided to get his own beater SUV. He had informed me that whatever I got needed to be able to tow the project car!! That would have surely eliminated my beloved Patriot!! )
I'm definitely in the market for the Patriot. Hubby does most of the driving when we go somewhere together, so I might as well give him that one concession. Besides...the more I look at it and envision it in my driveway, the more and more I fall in love with it!
I don't "do" offroading and other "Jeep-like" activities...so trail rating isn't important to me. Space is, as Hubby drives a 2 seater, and my vehicle is the hauling-guests-around-town-car and will one day be the family vehicle. The low price and MPG appeal to me as well. We live in California's San Joaquin Valley - most of our driving will be city driving, but this will be our long distance traveler, too. So some mountain driving, but not very often, and surely not in bad weather.
I'm planning on squirreling away money all year towards a down payment. That, plus hopefully we'll sell my granny-mobile (Buick) and get a nice little nest built up to keep the payments as low as possible.
I'm planning on the Limited - in either dark blue w/gray interior or Jeep Green w/khaki interior. Planning to load it with all the luxuries...sunroof, U-connect, butt-warmers and the like. Sat radio isn't a priority (yet), and I don't care to upgrade the speakers or get those lift-gate ones. I'm still up in the air as to whether I'll get 2x4 or 4x4. That's more Hubby's department, so I'll let that be his call.
I *loved* seeing the drawings of the Patriot compared to the Liberty, Grand Cherokee and Cherokee. (I forwarded the link to my best friend so he could see the comparison, too!) It's really helped me visualize the size of the vehicle.
Looking forward to all of you getting your Patriots and offering reviews. I can't wait to see one in person, too.
