: Ready to Modify
sofunkyitsfresh 04-13-2010, 03:40 AM Hi everyone. So I've been reading through here little by little and to be honest, I'm not really a car person so most of the lingo being spoken here is pretty foreign to me. Anyhow, I'm really interest in modifying my lovely new super cool patriot so that the mileage will improve and of course... for looks. Right now I have a 2010 Jeep Patriot Sport FWD. Everything is stock... for now :)
Basically, I plan on taking pictures of it now and adding the mods one by one while taking you guys/gals on the journey with me... because honestly, I will definately need your guys help. So first things first... what should I do? Keep in mind that I really, really, really am shooting for maintaining or improving my MPG's. Thank everyone :D
Tony1911 04-13-2010, 04:04 AM Rear bumper, front grille decals are a pretty easy to apply modification for better looks. Probably a good place to start?
MickeyG 04-13-2010, 10:20 AM I can think of 3 all of which are somewhat pricy but $4 gas will pay them back in a reasonable return of investment. The one that is least expensive trains the driver: Get a Scan Guage II and use it to improve your driving habits, around $160 and just plug in to the ODB II port.
Beyond that improve the breathing and exhaust. MBRP (among others) makes a good kit to replace the stock muffler. Cost installed around $400. MPG will improve noticably, I expected around .5 mpg realized triple that. Breathing improvements from K&N and others will raise hp and mileage.

Are those things heavy? How much would it weigh the car down?
SteelPepe 04-13-2010, 04:14 PM mmm i think like 2 grams.... but its just an aprox.

K&N Cold air intake, you can get it on e-bay for $200 shipped. Exhaust system will also help alot the muffler on the Pat's are huge and i am sure they flow like crap. The big thing you need to remember about and engine is that it is a big air pump. the more air you can get in and the more air you can get out will mean more horsepower but also more MPG as the efficencey will increase. I have installed intakes on every veh i have owned for about the last 10 years and have found min of 2 to 3 mpg increase. I just purchased my Patriot about a month ago and the intake was ordered 2 hours after i signed the papers and was installed 5 days after i got it. They work well and when you stand on the gas they sound great as well.
sofunkyitsfresh 04-14-2010, 02:52 PM won't the cold air intake void the warranty?

No aftermarket parts will void your warranty unless they can be proven that they cause the problem in questions. So lets say you put an intake on and you have a tie rod go bad or a shock go bad. they cannot void the warranty on susp for an intake. And if you have a motor blow under warranty they have to prove that the intake caused the issue and the only way it could do that is lets say you drove the car under water and the intake sucked up water and hydro locked the motor. but if you were driving in that deep of water or soemthing like that then you more than likely have other issue that are not under warranty because it is not a manuf defect it is abuse by owner. Hope that helps out.
Vultite 04-14-2010, 04:33 PM cheapest and easiest mod to do, paint that rear muffler black, I did and it turned out great! but don't cheap out and use low quality paint! get the header paint and do it right! only a few extra bucks, all you need to do is scuff the muffler up with a little bit of sandpaper, wash it, let it dry, then use some old newspaper to make sure you don't get any overspray on the paint or other stuff and spray away! Your pat won't look like it's laying on a giant silver egg anymore lol. ALSO, you can get a stubby billet black antenna from AntennaX on ebay or their website, that's a quick replacement....

My boyfriend took his car in due to some rattling noise and right away they didn't even bother to look at it because he tinted the windows.

Then he needs to contact the state Attorney General and file a complaint under the Magnuson-Moss Act. If you Google that it will bring up all the info you need. A manuf cannot void a warranty of an entire veh for a mod that is not related to it and cannot void the warranty of the related items unless they can prove that it caused or contributed to the issue. Also K&N lists right on there web site that there products will not void any warranty or they will pay for the repairs if the manuf can prove it was there part that caused the issue.

If you're asking this, you're not ready to modify.
