: Am I a Screw Ball?

Man, I don't know. Am I missing something?
After spending 26k on a new vehicle, and reading all these post surrounding people that went out and spent 1000 bucks on an additional state of the art wax/ clear coat....brand new kick ass tires and rims, custom lettering and all that crap, am I a screw ball because I just can't justify going out and doing the same thing?

Why is it, I can be happy with what I got, and not give a crap about making other people on the road turn their heads and look at this new grill, look at these new big mag tires, yada yada yada.

At this point of the game, I just concetrate on keeping the inside of the car clean, and the outside spotless. I dunno, maybe it was pratical upbringing.

Just like what that other guy said..I must be getting old...gotta go...my Matlock is on.

I wouldn't say screw ball.

It's just what each person likes for themselves.

For me, I plan to do upgrades over time. Partly for cash reasons, But also to think about and plan out my next move. I've had the Patriot almost 2 months (4500kms) I have only just bought a new, shorter and black coloured antenna. Mostly because I find the one that comes with it hideous. Maybe down the road tint the front windows, who knows?

I don't really care so much for turning heads, I just like to have a sweet ride. If I wasn't married I wouldn't mind turning the heads of a few ladies however :)

I'm like you KFC. I've bought some Husky liners to protect the carpet/floor and I bought some splash guards using the $50 certificate from Chrysler Canada.

Rather than pay for the exterior paint protection, I plan to wax my car a couple of times a year. The car already has a clear coat, but I like to wax it occasionally to provide a bit more protection, and to keep the water beading. Besides, I enjoy waxing it- it's an easy job and doesn't take very long (less than an hour).

I think you are lucky! I wish i did not have a constant need to fix everything that isn't broken spending lots of unneeded time, money and effort I don't have in the process. If anyone can tell me why I think I need big tires on my 4x2 to handle orlando traffic let me know but I am still going to get them because I want to.

No your not a screw ball, because if you are then I am.

Some people just see spending more and putting it into their cars.

All I have to do to turn heads is wash my pat so it looks brand new again, but I don't even do that as often as I should

Try not to be defined by your stuff.
I don't mean that in a mean way at all.
The pressures we feel from our cultures, marketing, buds, whatever, actually do tend to diminish as we age.
Forgive me, I don't mean to preach but, there's a certain sense of calm as we care less and less what other people think.:blah:

I put on bigger tires and a roof rack for functionality. The stock tires for KJs are pretty much garbage off road so I upgraded. The rack helps me carry more camping gear as I now have the most dependable vehicle of my friends so we take it most places. 4 people plus gear wont fit in the deceptively small rear cargo area. I have to admit though, I really like the look of the beefier tires and rack. I feel that if one person wants to make their Jeep stand out because they are proud of it, let them, if you don't like it, don't do that to yours. Just my honest opinion.

I don't plan on doing many upgrades either. I had a dog barrier installed, front air deflector, and molded mud flaps. I negotiated this with my dealer into the final price and I can't see having too much more done other than the quick fix of a black shorter antenna

Think of it this way... If the auto company felt there was a great demand for an item they would offer the option directly and make the money themselves, hence, the Rubicon Wrangler.

Not everyone adds items to their vehicles to impress other people.
Some add items to the vehicle because they themselves thinks it looks good and could care less what others think. It's about making yourself happy, which imo, is the meaning of life.

By the way.. nice passive aggressive attack against all of those here who enjoy modding their vehicle and sharing the mods with others.

What exactly is the purpose of this post besides to be a jerk and slander others?

Oh...really nice...
You know what Bud. That wasn't my intention what-so-ever. I am inclined to believe that your nic name seems to have some relevance, but I wouldn't cut yourself so short on the 'nearly' part.

Do yourself a favour and next time if you try fill in blanks yourself, make sure you got some type of skill-set, in order to do it with some degree of accuracy and without embarassment.

I think for a good laugh, I will check out all the threads you have participated in the past, just so i can get a better understanding of the end result of what can occur when a frontal-lobotomy project goes wrong.

I atribute everything in life to a cult. We find what we like and who we wish to be associated with. Members of this forum have a common bond. Our Patriots. How we wish to alter or change them or leave them stock is up to the individual. That's the great thing about being here. We get great imput.

No KFC, we don't think you're a screwball. A little odd, maybe. After all, you are from Toronto..

Everywhere in Canada, it is considered cool to dislike Toronto, where they believe that Canada begins and ends at the Metro city limits.

Interesting.......so where do they think they are when they cross over the Toronto City line and are not in Canada any longer....Poland?? .... I have never been to Canada then. I went to Montreal though, so I guess I was in Poland and didn't know it??? ...............I don't get it.

BTT.....anyway, if you like your jeep the way it is, there is nothing wrong with that. You are not crazy. If you do something to it to personalize it to your taste, nothing wrong with that. You are not crazy. But if you do all sorts of stuff to it with the sole purpose to be noticed/impress others, then you have other more serious mental issues.

Toronto is the largest centre in Canada, so I guess what is being said is that some who live there feel they are the centre of Canada.

There was an illustration told to me once that if the canadian economy were a cow its head would be over the prairies eating, its t!ts over Ontario and Quebec and its a$$ would be over the east coast! I thought it to be quite humourous - and fitting!

i think that adding extra mods makes the car "yours".

You let jeep do there thing and then wants you own one its cool to add your own special touch.

I've learned from this forum that the pats with extra mods (rims, step rails, grill bling) stand out and get more responsive attention. And thats just on the internet.

I'm not just like "oh ok thats just another patriot" but with mods im like "wow that a patriot with____! thats awsome and different"

and in the real world in your own neighborhood where everyone know you, its the exact same thing...and im all about postive feedback.

We do it for ourselves! Almost an obsession for many of us. That constant struggle for what we imagine to be a perfect ride! nothing wrong with the plain ole Patty either. Maybe we're just bored, maybe we need a few extras to get the thing to function the way we want it to, and maybe someone wants to turn some heads (not sure the patriot is the right format for that but thats up to the owner to decide). Do with your riot as you will sir and we'll all do the same!

If I modify mine, it'll be to please myself, not others. I think the best mods are the ones that people look at and think "Hey, that's a good idea. Jeep should have done that with the production model." I'd like to remove the rear headrests (increase rearward visibility), install a Wrangler steering wheel (more comfortable), and mount the spare tire on the rear door (increase cargo capacity). I think these are all pretty reasonable.
