Last week I began to hear a noise coming from my 2007 Patriot. It happens when the vehicle is in park and I apply the brake to put the car into drive/reverse, etc. I hear a loud click noise coming from the center console where the shift knob is. I dropped it off to the dealer yesterday and they called me and said they are unsure of where the noise is coming from. They wanted to keep it another day to investigate the problem further. So here I am waiting for the dealer to call. Anyone have any ideas of what they think it might be?

It is the lock that locks the shifter! When you apply the brake it unlocks it! And that is what you hear! If I am correct!

I have the same noise in my 2008 it is the shift lock.

So I take it thats normal? The dealer just called me 10 minutes ago. They tested it thoroughly and said it was normal. I dont know why that took 2 day's... At least I am getting my Patriot back!

Park interlock. Perfectly normal on the Patriot and many other vehicles, the Pat just has a louder solenoid.

To be sure of this, grip the shift lever before pressing the brake, and you shouldn't be able to move it out of Park. Then press the brake pedal, you should hear the click and the lever should now move out of park.

They also performed two TSB's on my Pat. One for the speaker and one for the gas cap housing. Does anyone know if jeep has one of those official websites to check out TSB's? I remember when I had my Hyundai they had a special site.

Go to the official jeep website - on the owners page, you can agt least search for recalls, based on VIN. Not sure if TSBs show up, though.

i've got a 5 speed and have never heard a noise shifting it into gear.
