I own a 1997 Wrangler TJ Sport and I am interested in the Patriot as a replacement. I tow my TJ behind my motor home with 4 wheels down and Jeeps are great "toads". Mine is a manual tranny and I have friends that tow automatics. There are no restrictions on speed or distance. The new 2007 Wranglers weigh in at over 4,000 lbs and that is too heavy for my taste.
The Wrangler has been good to me at 130,000 miles with about 95% of it on the highway. I drive some rough fire roads to get to the trails that I map but I do not do "off roading". The Wrangler does not have enough room for stuff and people. I do not like the spare tire on the swing gate. I do not like the door latch post that snags (and destroys) the belt loop on my pants. I would like to have a permanent metal roof. I do not care if the windshield folds down or not.
I am hoping that the Patriot will be about 3,500 pounds or so in curb weight and that it is towable 4 wheels down. I hope the Patriot has adequate power to go up mountain highways at a reasonable pace.
I hope to find out more about the Patriot on this forum.
