New Jeep owner - only got it on Tuesday - black CRD Limited with the satnav & Boston acoustics. Drove to Yorkshire & back on business and it's excellent especially on motorway.

Didnt get Jeep park sensors cos the dealer wanted around £600 including fitting. Does anyone recommend any 3rd party sensors - I notice that Halfords do one for £199 inc fitting which is tempting.

The wife says I'm being a bit of a girl but the rear window is fairly high and I havnt got used to parking it yet so am being a bit over careful at the mo.

Also another quick question - dealer states 9k service interval but the service book says 10k miles - which is correct or will the Jeep tell me when it needs done?

Hello & Wecome from Cheltenham. I get by without sensors ( Although my Skoda Superb had them & the Wifes Skoda Fabia Estate has them) No probs so far . Service intervals for the CRD are every 9.000 miles ( after warranty is up I'm pushing mine to 12,000 miles) The same engine in Skodas & Audis is oil change every 20,000 miles . Modern engines , filters & Synthetic oil can handle this. Small tip !! unless you use the middle rear seat--Take the small central head rest out , it frees up rear vision through the rear view mirror.

My rear seats are always down, helps seeing out the back.

Someone on here installed a rear-view video cam, you might consider that as an option.

Put a hitch on your Pat (I have one) ... then you don`t need rear parking sensors. If you feel a bump when reversing that`s your tow hook signalling an obstacle :D

Aren't you afraid that seat belt buckles would rub a hole into the backrest? I wish the seat had grooves for buckles like some cars do.

I'm being over cautious when reversing... The other angle that is hard to perceive for me is the passenger's side front corner. When you look at it from the driver's seat, it seems to end where the hood ends. But in reality fenders make ~15 cm more. You gotta keep that in mind so you won't turn too early/late when the garage door is nearby... I guess I just haven't driven enough with my Pat (yet).

Your wife may be a good sensor if she is willing to step outside and watch when you back-up ! ;)

I agree with the hitch suggestion, provided the towbar extends beyong the bumber far enough.

Here's a tip I learned the other day while backing a 5'x8' single axle trailer: Open the rear hatch, gives you a panoramic view. Of course, getting the dog out of the way was the real issue! Most of us that use a trailer very intermittantly, are NOT skilled trailer backers--so any help is always welcome!

Well I`d have my doubts about this signaling device :) My wifey just stands at an angle where I can`t see her, watching me reverse and giving NO signals whatsoever! I almost ran HER over once at such an occasion :o Wonder how the police would evaluate it if something like that really happened ... murder 1, unintentional killing, accident ... ... Hey, this could be a great way of getting rid of the everpresent whirlwind frying pan threat that Kahbrohn keeps talking about. Nobody could prove that your foot didn`t slip from the break pedal to the gas by accident ;)

( Although my Skoda Superb had them & the Wifes Skoda Fabia Estate has them) .[/QUOTE] You still hae the Superb? The Superb must be the most underated car ever made, in my opinion. Put a VW badge on it and hey presto you've got a Passat and about £5000.00 more.

Hi, I've has a 59 CRD Limited for 4 weeks now and the dealer also wanted a lot of dosh for parking sensors. Having fitted eBay ones to the old Toyota and the wifes Fabiaa Estate I bit the bullet reached for the drill, measured carefully and fitted them to the Patriot - and have to say they both match the paintwwork (silver) and work well. There's a picture in the gallery form someone in the US showing where he fixed his and I used the same positions.

Total time to fit - 2 hrs going carefully.

Just to be sure though there's also a tow bar to fit soon!
