: Brief Review of my 2008 GC Diesel
frosty 11-16-2007, 05:08 PM Hey all,
Thought I would briefly review my experience with my 2008 GC diesel.....in one word....terrific! I love this vehicle....I have had several other GC's 95, 00, 02, 04, 06 but in my opinion, this is the best one yet....
The engine performance is fantastic....torque is great, hp is just right, smell....there is none...noise level...nonexistent except at full stops where it is only slightly noisier than my dad's 06 GC Hemi and becomes a nonissue after you have driven it twice....passing on the highway is great....mileage is terrific (especially compared to the Hemi)....24citympg/31 highwaympg (Canadian figures).....can't say enough about it....I would buy another one in a minute...
I have the Overland version which is nicely done inside....black exterior with nice chrome touches all over....beautiful brown leather seats inside with real wood finish on the steering wheel, dash, and doors....very comfortable on long trips...
Love the new tech gadgets...my first vehicle with GPS, bluetooth tech, (love talking to my car and it talks back) sirius satellite radio, and hard drive where you can download music files and pictures for screen, backup camera etc....etc....some of this is too cool....
If anyone is considering the diesel version, I would say 'go for it'....I highly recommend it....I even find it drives more refined than the Hemi version.....feels lighter in the nose and not as touchy/jerky on the gas pedal...
AbqPatriot 11-16-2007, 05:52 PM Sounds like a gem. Wish we could get the diesel here!
HoosierMud 11-16-2007, 05:56 PM Isn't the JGC available now in diesel?

In either 2009 or 10, they are supposed to come out with a Cummins diesel in the GC (I have the Mercedes version in mine) which will be sold in all 50 states so get ready....
frosty 11-16-2007, 06:00 PM Isn't the JGC available now in diesel?
Yes, but not in all 50 states due to higher emission standards in some areas....like CA, NY....but the bluetec Cummins version coming soon will solve that issue....
tasar 11-17-2007, 12:56 AM we have had this configuration in the GC and Commander here since there release 2 years ago
the 3l together with Quadradrive II puts all other mid soze 4x4's to shame
my sister has a commander 3l crd they use it to tow a 3 tonne van
it still gets 16l per 100l towing it
the commander wouldn't be on the chopping block if they had this motor out from the start ...would sell a heap of them
PS i'm in Australia

I agree....they should advertise and market the diesels more in North America....I have read that it is difficult to change the opinions of older Americans who tend to think of diesels as dirty, noisy, and stinky and don't realize the new ones are just the opposite...
Huntyeraws 12-05-2007, 12:43 PM It is not that Americans don't want it, it is because the Jeep GC 4x4 Overland with CRD option is too damn expensive for the average consumer here in the US! With a $45K+ sticker price - it is too expensive for most. Put is in a GC Larado, Liberty, Patriot, Compass models (those outside US or Canada have these) for less $ and folks would buy it. People who are already buying the GC Overland loaded out likely don't have to worry too much about the price of fuel IMHO.

Diesel 17/22...3.7L 15/19...4.7L 14/19...5.7L 13/18...6.1L SRT You don't want to know
It is in the higher cost market which keeps most people out of one. The Jeep Liberty CRD was ~26,000 vs ~45,000. You will definitely get better HWY mileage than the EPA if you keep your speed around 62-65mph (100-106kph).
What kind of rpm do you turn at 100kph (62.5mph) with the final OD kicked in?

you guys are just too spoilt :icon_rolleyes:
$40k for a car is what Australians pay for CRD limited Patriot ($30k for base model )
need $70k here for a GC CRD limited $58k for a laredo crd:(
just wait till your govt's figure out that taxing cars and fuel is a great way too introduce an indirect tax with minimal inflationary factor
car prices are even worse in europe :wow:

Please note that the diesel engine is available in the Laredo GC version as well.....Yes, I understand that the Overland is a pricey vehicle....I too wish that all of the Jeep vehicles would have a diesel option....
