My brother-in-law's car was t-boned a couple weeks back and now it looks like its going to be totaled. He's been looking at several cars, trucks, and suvs. My wife suggested the Compass. So I immediately started doing some research. We are working with a budget. And are looking for fuel economy. So I have some questions I want to bounce off y'all.

2.0L w/ CVTII or 2.4L w/ CVTII?

Power Equip Group (power windows, locks and mirrors) is it really worth $955?

Full size spare is it worth the $120?

I have 5 spares for the TJ off my old XJ in the garage, are the bolt patterns the same on the Compass?

Thanks

Tell him to take the bus for a few weeks and then buy the Patriot instead.

Okay honestly now, if the 2.4 is being called slow, who would opt for the 2.0?

The 2.0L will feel a little underpowered but at the same time will give you better fuel economy...so it will be a tradeoff...you mention that you are on a budget and fuel economy is important so perhaps the 2.0L would be more practical for you...

...with respect to the full-time spare...personally, I would not go for that option as the smaller spare that comes with the vehicle will get you to the nearest station for service...

...with respect to the power items...that would be a personal decision...they are definitely nice to have and if it fits your budget then go for it; otherwise, if you figure you can sacrifice doing without it and/or simply can't afford it, then opt out...

I doubt the bolt patterns of the TJ will fit the Compass...

In coming to this website, the threads will be biased towards the Patriot...you might also want to go the www.edmunds.com and click on forums; then go to the Jeep forum; then go to the Compass forum for more input into your decision from Compass owners...

i agree. the 2.4 already feels underpowered. if i was definitly getting a compass, i wouldn't even consider the 2.0. as for the power package, it's convenient, but i personally don't think it's worth ~$1000.

are these prices from what the "Build and Price" section of the website gave you? because, those packages are sometimes discounted or automatically included when you actually buy the vehicle with all the other little perks.

Update.

We all went to our local dealership and test drive a 2.4L CVTII Jeep Green Compass. I have to say I am really impressed. I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Interior was larger than I thought it would be. And all the high speed features are well thought out IMO.

As for all those people who say the Compass is under powered.... I don't know about that, it felt like it had plenty of power. Last time I checked there is only one Jeep in the line up right now that is built for speed, the GC SRT8. :D

Anyway my brother-in-law is sold on the Compass. Now comes the hard part. Getting the finances together.

Other bad news.... The 2.0L CVT isn't available until January.

THE REALLY BAD NEWS!!!! The guy at the dealership said they are not expecting to get the Patriot until APRIL OR MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the posts y'all!

Update

So my brother-in-law ended up getting a used VW New Beetle. Not just any Beetle, a freaking bright international safety orange Beetle. Even the rims have orange inserts. Not only did he not get a Jeep he didn't even try to find a TDI Beetle. Oh well, when its time to replace the Beetle, I'll put him in a Patriot.
