Hi Everyone,

I'm from Richmond Hill,Ontario Canada and I'm seriously looking at a Patriot North Edition,black,5 speed,4x2 with the following options:

PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM
SECURITY & CARGO CONV. GROUP
TIRE & WHEEL GROUP
FULL SIZE SPARE
SPEED CONTROL

The dealers got me at $26,425 OTR but I want it under $26,000.

On a side note, I've noticed Patriots on the road and I never see them with body coloured door handles-they're always black. The 25E has it listed as part of the pkg. There is one in my building which is a 4x4 North Edition in black and it too has just black handles(like the side mirrors)- not painted. What gives???

Hope to be a part of this great group here soon!!

SpaceJeep,

I was actually wondering the exact same thing about the door handles because I haven't seen ANY Patriots with body coloured door handles. I pretty much JUST ordered the EXACT same Patriot as you (except mine is 4x4), and I paid just over $26,000 after taxes and all fees and discounts. I got mine here in Windsor at Provincial Chrysler. Maybe you should come down here and get one! It seems like it might be a little cheaper for you! lol

If you want a contact here I can give you his name and number and I'll have my salesman hook you up. Let me know!

Canadian Patriot,

Wow thats a great deal:smiley_thumbs_up: I went through CCC and the dealer is giving me cost + $1. I thought it too good to be true-and it was. They back loaded it with PDI,Ad Min-which is std, but the kicker is a $699.00 security pkg. Its got something to do with your car being stolen and they will find it within a certain time period or they will add $4000 to the settlement total from you insurance company. Its similar to the window etching-which as a CAA member I can get very cheap, but with some sort of sticker placed inside the door frame that if if removed will leave some kind of marking. If I can get them to waive this fee they've got a deal. If not maybe I will take a trip down to Windsor.:D

go for a 4x4 patriot, or even do a search and see if your dealer can find a 2009 rocky mountain edition patriot, you won't be disappointed. They stopped making the rocky mountain edition, but it is a great package.

I would second that thinking, especially where you are, 4x4 would be the way to go. And you usually get the money back when you trade anyway. 4x4's hold their value well.

Actually, I didn't even know that about the Security and Cargo group!? So let me get this straight...if my car gets stolen and it is not found within a certain amount of time, then Chrysler will add $4000 to the settlement cost of my stolen car!? If so, that's awesome! I'll ask my dealer about it when I pick my Patriot up on Feb. 16th! :-)

Canada???? you should go 4x4---Guys on here have 4x2 but thats just a Dodge Caliber witha jeep body on it!!

I'd like to get a 4x4 but its just out of my budget. I'm only 10 km from work so my daily drive won't involve too much time in the white stuff.:pepper: Besides when snow is forecast for overnight in T.O the plows usually have it cleared by morning.

The security package the dealer is offering is through a 3rd party company, I think he called it "Global" and not Chrysler. The sales manager said that with the $1500 Chrysler discount and $1300 discount to get to their so called "cost" they needed to throw this in to make any money. He does sound like he wants my business and is willing to negotiate. We'll see.

Canadian Patriot- Here in Toronto dealers are charging $1400 on freight,so Windsor may be getting a break with its proximity to the US.

Anyone have an answer to the body colored handles? Is that a change made for the 2010 model year?

SpaceJeep,

All you need to do is go into the dealership and say "This is the price I want...work your magic and if you can get it to that price, I promise you I will buy the car on the spot right now". That's exactly what I did and within 10 minutes he came back with a price that was $3/month over what I asked him to make it. So, in order to make up for it, he threw in a free front window tint (since the back windows on the North are tinted already), free lifetime anti-rust oil spray and rubber undercoat that is guaranteed for 1 million km's or until the year 2039, 1 year tire warranty, and 5 free oil changes!

Also, if you live in Canada, PLEASE just spend the extra money and get the 4x4...trust me, you will not regret it! I see too many posts from people on here on here and other sites that say they ALWAYS get stuck with the 4x2's. I was going to get the 4x2 as well until my dad talked some sense into me and I know for sure I'm not going to regret it!

SpaceJeep,

I also got charged $1400 for freight...I think it is just a generic price that they made up and made all Chrysler dealerships charge the same...It's steep, I know! :-(

Door handles on my '08 are black, and I like that myself. Not sure when they changed, maybe for '10 models.

Seems like the 4x4 is the preferred choice:D. Isn't the insurance higher on a 4x4? Also keep in mind I'm doing 100% city driving how would the gas mileage be affected with a 4x4?

Canadian Patriot, eh?
02-09-2010, 01:31 PM
Gas mileage is BARELY effected because since you will most likely get Freedom Drive I, the Jeep will only drive in 4x4 on demand. Therefore, when you are driving on dry pavement, it will only supply power to the front wheels and only distribute power to the rear as you need it. You have the option to LOCK the differential at a 50/50 power split but I would only use that if it is really needed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong because this is how I am understanding it. Also, you can click on this link: http://www.jeep.com/en/4x4/how_systems_work/freedom_drive/

It should be able to explain it a lot better than I just did, lol

As for insurance, I don't think 4x4 makes a difference? If anything, your insurance should go lower with a 4x4 since it is a safer vehicle to drive! Check with your insurance company to get a quote and see if having 4x4 makes a difference.

Get the 4X4, it's better when it comes to selling it. One never knows when the 4X4 will come in handy. Peace of mind, better resale value.

I would have thought 4x4 was cheaper to insure as the 4x4 , with normal driving, is a safety feature!

what I did was emailed four dealers told them what I wanted for specs and they bascially had a bidding war. I was open with them all and let each one know what the others were giving me for a price. It was a great experience and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Good luck

Thanks for all the buying tips guys & gals, I do love playing hardball with the dealer-its fun!! Its odd though as I did go to jeep.ca and sent out 6 quotation requests to 6 different dealers and only one replied. They must not be hurting for business I guess.

I heard back from the insurance company and both the 4x4 & 4x2 are priced the same. Now all I need to do is scrape up a few more dollars for a 4x4 model.

Stay tuned;)

at my 2010 Inferno Red Pat with body coloured door handles.:pepper: Interestingly the driver's side only is key accessible.
Body coloured door handles have been introduced for 2010 models.

Spacejeep, don't pay anything for the Global extra. It came with my jeep and I didn't pay anthing extra for it. The salesman didn't even mention it to me during the sales process. It isn't even listed on the invoice.

The guy you spoke to is trying to rip you off.

To get the best price, I'd suggest you use Car Cost Canada. You can use this service to find out the dealer cost and also find a dealer that will sell for a very low markup.

Hi Djeep,

I did go through CCC and the acredited CCC dealer in my area received my request and gave me a call. We started emailing back and forth and he told me that he would offer $1 over what was listed at CCC as their "wholesale" cost. Thinking that was a great deal I went in for a test drive on a CVT model-eventough I was told a 5 spd would be waiting for me, and thats when all the details came out. When you add: TIRE TAX,GAS TAX,PDI,AD MIN,OMVAC,Global Security and yes even $90 for wheel locks, it totalled almost $1400 in extras:mad: Freight and air tax were already included in the CCC report.

I finally received a reply from another dealer and its now Game On as I pit one against the other for my business. Ain't this fun!!:D

You got in luck with your insurance company then. When I quoted the jeep when I was shopping for a 4x2 and a 4x4, the RBC ins. broker told me insurance for a 4x4/AWD vehicle is more expensive, and comparing the quoted ins. prices at the time, a 4x4 version was more expensive, as well as stepping up to a limited model as an increase in insurance cost.

Good luck with your purchase and hope to see you on the road with one!

On a side note, I haven't had any problems with 4x2 riot and some winter tires. I had an AWD CRV and I loved the benefit of the AWD system in the winter; however when purchasing the jeep I couldn't justify the added costs of an AWD system for city driving. Slight increase in fuel consumption due to the added weight of the system (also the 4x2 riot seems heavier than the AWD CRV I traded in), not utilizing the system for city driving 3/4 of a calendar year, added maintenance cost of changing the rear differential fluid on a scheduled basis, a higher insurance rate (with my own experience) and not to mention the added cost of the actual system. To use as another example, my wife drives a 2003 Neon with winter tires, without ABS/traction control, AWD or 4 wheel disc brakes, driving approx. 50kms each way to work, and has never got stuck. Winter tires are a godsend. Just my $0.02.

PS. The RME comes with body colored handles.

Madburner,

I really want the 4x4 version but I to do a lot of city driving with my daily drive being less than 15 km. A 4x2 would make more sense. Besides, with the $2000 in savings I can really spruce it up:D.

Canadian Patriot,

Congrats on your new Patriot, fabulous looking machine!! Green is such a awesome colour. Hope you have years of trouble free driving.

Hi Gang,

Finally inked a deal on a 2010 Patriot North Edtion 4x2 5 spd in brilliant black.
I was really torn between fwd & 4wd but in the end 4x2 won out. I plan on driving this Jeep to its grave so resell value does not come into play here. I've been driving fwd vehicles my whole life and I never really needed a 4x4 but I fell in love with the Patriots look, drive, cargo versatility, safety, gas consumption and most of all $PRICE$. I previously owned a fwd '92 Eagle Talon for almost 15 yrs and when I sold it with 320k km on it it still looked like it just came off the showroom floor. It was the most reliable car I have ever owned and it was heartbreaking to see someone drive off with my baby. Will the Patriot be as reliable? I guess only time will tell but I know one thing, I will take care of my "Black Beauty" thats for sure:)

Now its an agonizing 8 wk + wait for it to come in. But thats ok, winter should be only a memory by then. I'll post up some pics when she arrives.

I wanna thank all the people here who helped me along the way and hope to
build a long lasting relationship with you all.

Congratulations on your new purchase- I guess that you still have a bit of a wait but it will be worth it!
Regarding reliability, the consumers report for the Patriot was "better than average" for reliability. As a 2010 owner, I am hoping that this is the case. I had a 2008 prior to this and had no problems until we traded it at 35000km.
Have fun!

Its been 4 weeks so far but it seems more like 4 months. I got it for $27k OTR. I ended up adding the Sirius Radio group pkg cuz I wanted the Uconnect hands free phone, dealer rustproofing @ a reduced price of $500.00 and still getting the Global tracking system and wheel locks. Overall I'm happy with the deal. I used a co-worker as a gauge to how good a deal I got. She got the CVT & 4x4 with some slight differences in packages for $30k. All in all when we compare our vehicles apples to apples I right in the ball park.

It shouldn't be long now:D
