: Window Tinting - Dazed and Confused
sarao 11-04-2007, 10:11 PM
What is really the law? Particularly the front windows. I have Googled everywhere and still can't find the right answer. I live in Ontario and all I see is Vague, Vague, Vague.

Nobody will know the law better than the tint guy himself. That is how I discovered the Alberta law regarding front (side windows) tint. I did get 50% on the fronts with 20% on all the other glass even though you are not supposed to have any tint on the front at all here in Alberta it is after all just a moving violation and you can remove it if you are told to. Mind you 50% is pretty light and with the 20% right behind it you barely notice the tint on the front.
MEGULA 11-05-2007, 06:23 AM Most tint specialists (private shops, that is) will still give you illegal ("limo") tint, they'll just only accept cash for the transaction...
sarao 11-15-2007, 09:28 PM Thanks for all the replies. I think I figured out what VAGUE really means. From the people that I have asked here in Toronto. Particularly people who have been caught for other offence using a car with the front side tinted (some with severely dark tint that you can barely see the person from across one window to the other on a sunny day), said that the law states that the person seated at the driver side must be visible through the side mirror of the car in front. Question is what is the definition of visible? One person also mentioned that he was able to fight and won a tint offence, since he was caught at night. Mmmmm, good lawyer!
Bottom line is I am seeing a lot of cars with their front side tinted really dark. I think it will be safe to match the 35% of the rear of the Pat on the front.
REPUBLIC 11-15-2007, 09:46 PM We went lighter tint on the front windows & dark on the rest
we also had them put a "eyebrow" on top of windshield/
ck my pictures under gallery. I think the price was about 130 bucks total
well worth it in New Mexico!!!!! I felt like I was in a goldfish bowl 1st day
we had the Pat & felt like I was getting a sunburn on my arm....needless to
say what we did the second day.....
homac 11-19-2007, 11:41 AM I cannot speak for Ontario, however ANY tint (front windows) in Alberta is illegal.
Besides from a safety standpoint who would want to tint their front side windows anyway??
jessi 11-23-2007, 10:11 AM 35% in the front windows and 20% in the rear windows is the legal limits
jessi 12-06-2007, 11:45 PM does anyone know what is the current tint percetnage in the rear windows.
cksm4 12-07-2007, 09:29 AM States can differ... search "window tint" "you state" "law". I found hits for my state which differs from above posts.
jessi 12-07-2007, 02:40 PM lemme rephrase haha, does anyone know the current tint percentage on the rear windows for the patriot. like whatts on their already if i have a north 4x2
sheridan55 12-18-2007, 03:51 PM One of my best friends has his own window tinting business. He's been doing it for about 20 years. I know he has looked into this because he's gotten a few tint tickets himself.
The law is as someone above stated: "the driver must be visible".
The problem is, it’s the officers discretion if he can identify you or not. We're pretty much at their mercy here. I had the two front windows on my 07 Pat North tinted at 35%. It blends the look with the factory tint of the other windows and seems to be light enough for me to be visible even at night.
My suggestion, a light tint (35%)
I'm not gonna shill my buddies company on here, but if you're looking for a tinter in the Toronto area feel free to contact me.
jessi 12-18-2007, 04:32 PM just found out from chryser that the current window tint in the rear is 18%. im gonna get the front ones done at 35% which is the legal limit in ontario.
nearly.normal.jimmy 12-18-2007, 09:25 PM http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/
In SC USA it's 20% on back, 35% on front, although my tint guy put 20% on the front for me.
It's a secondary offense and then still not always enforced. Would depend on the officer and his mood probably.
