Hi guys, i live in texas and temperatures here are not below 60-55 degrees yet but i just noticed the Pat started making this noise when is below 80 or 75 degrees. It is like spark knock noise and it's gone when the engine reaches normal temperature. I never heard the noise before in the summer but my wife told me about the noise when the temps started coming down a little bit. Is this a World engine common noise? is that why people say the engine is noisy?

Thanks

There has been info. about ticking sound before. More info on your ride would help. If you have not, take it in and have the computer updated (flashed). There are a couple of things that tick. One is the injectors and this is normal. The valves are the other, that's the one you don't want to hear. Flash it and see if that helps. Find a less busy day at the dealership and they may do it while you wait. They updated my computer in about 15min.

Thanks Bnoble, the car we have is a 07 limited 4x2 CVT. I've seen that TSB but since that says it only applies to models built before april or something like that so i was not concerned at all. I don't have problems with the hood or sunroof yet but this noise for sure is not the injectors, is louder than that like it was diesel but not that loud.

One of the TSBs was for ping at idle or pre-ignition. My Patriot was built after the bulletin date also. I am sure that the problems I was having are better now, after reprogramming. This was done before cool spell so I had no engine noise problem. Couldn't hurt to have them check it. I know time at the dealership is awful waste of time. Best of luck.

Well...are you driving with the windows open or the A/C off now that it's not so hot? You'd hear things you didn't hear before. Also, my experience with "ticking" is that that kind of noise is often a result of the exhaust system heating or cooling as the car warms up / cools off.

Mine does the same ticking noise when its cold, which it is now for at least five more months. 5 speed, 4x4. Sounds just like a noisy diesel. It also occasionally takes a few more turns of the ignition than it should. that really concerns me. Well off to the dealership.
