I guess not too early to try to schedule this.

Weekends in summer can fill up fast.

Let's get some tentative dates posted.

The Woodsmens Show is Aug. 6-8, 2010
http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30796&page=4

The Bark Peeler's Convention is the 4th of July weekend (usually but dates not posted yet)
http://www.lumbermuseum.org/

I think the trains run all the time
http://www.tiogacentral.com/video/2009_promo.php

And of course the Grand Canyon is always there. There's even a road going into the canyon. And you can use the bike trail through it, or canoe/raft it too.

I got to thinking about this meet and remembered the first Penns Woods Jeep Jamboree. We ran oil company access roads through the mountains around Bradford. There were many complaints about the trails being too easy for the CJs and Wranglers and they went to much more challenging trails for later years. The oil trails were pretty easy (rain could change that) with the biggest obstacles being water bars cut across the trails for erosion control. These would be Patriot friendly for the most part. You'd need to pre-run the trails and evaluate what vehicles would be allowed on what trails to minimize potential problems.

I don't have a personal contact, but I know where one of the organizers works. Perhaps the biggest obstacle would be insurance, but sometimes just signing a waiver is enough.

I'm just throwing this out to see what happens. I would not be interested in organizing this, only in providing the contact to anyone else who wants to run with this. I've not wheeled my Patriot and really don't intend to. Someone with trail time in a Patriot would have to be the organizer.

How about August 6-8 as a weekend for a summer meet? I sure wish I'd hear from some other folks about good dates. I would love to see 50 or so Patriots all lined up going through town, on the trails, and on those beautiful country roads.

Thats pretty far off still so theres time for more people to see how their schedule looks.

I should be able to make this tho.

I'm on vacation at the end of August, but should be able to make any other weekend (though I prefer it to NOT be on holiday weekends as I already am making plans with family and friends for those weekends).

The Carlisle All Chrysler Nationals is another option for a place to have a summer meet in PA...

I'm open to just about anything. Here's some info on the Carlisle event:
http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/chrysler-nationals/

Although I don't know if we'll find many trails to run in the Carlisle area.

butch81385

Carlisle is about 12 miles from where we had the first light-trail run (Pine Grove Furnace State Park).

I am really up for anywhere.

Gaze

Carlisle is nice because there is an endless amount of events going on at the fairgrounds. Plus the swap meet area is amazing for picking up auto gadgets (cleaning supplies, tools, literature, parts, you name it!)

I think we should make an attempt to be there as a group! I brought my Patriot the past two years.

dixiedawg
01-26-2010, 03:03 PM
I'll try to do both Gaze. I was hoping we'd get some folks to come to Potter from Canada, and Ohio, NY, WVA, maybe VA, etc. And get a campground area or something.

I have the logo now, I could make big (23x35 inches or so) signs up for folks to see and find us.

I could make up some calling cards with the logo and web site on them too, in case we run into folks who don;t know about the site.

I'll try to have the window clings done by then too. Sooner though I hope.

dixiedawg
02-01-2010, 10:40 AM
Carlisle sounds like fun too, so let's do both. Potter country might get us some folks from NY, and Canada, maybe Ohio and some other places too.

Carlisle might bring in some folks from further south, maybe VA, WVA, Maryland, etc.

What the heck, it will be summer, nice time of year to take a road trip.

Let's see how many will come. Ok folks, please let us know.

butch81385

I'm in for both. Will probably do the whole weekend for both as well, assuming there is a place to put a tent down or cheap lodging.

Went to that last year. It was pretty cool. Did see a guy drag the bottomside of his 2 week old stock liberty along the boulder field that they had set up.... Would have been much more fun if I actually knew someone there... Still was enjoyable...

dixiedawg
02-02-2010, 03:11 PM
Not sure about those boulders/rocks, but then again let's see those other Jeeps in the snow on my hill, lol.

Heck, if not many other Patriots show up we might win best in class.

Looks like a lot more Jeep stuff there than Carlisle though. Lot's of equipment too. Might be a good place to buy a tree strap, or maybe a winch, who knows.

I's just like to see more of our Patriots at these things, and just big groups of us together. I really enjoyed our small winter meet.

butch81385
02-02-2010, 03:23 PM
You are able to go around any obstacle. I would never try my Patriot on the rocks... As I said before, I saw a stock Liberty make some very good use of the skid plates!

That said, though, he was able to do everything else in a trail-rated Liberty... Also, I saw 0 MK class Jeeps when I was there last year (inside the event. there were a couple in the parking lot along with mine).

02-03-2010, 07:26 AM
So now we have 3 events this summer we can go to.

Myself and a friend both have patriots and are intrested in comming, we live down in Huntington, WV. You can pretty much count both of us in, dates dont really matter to us unless they fall on major holidays. As far as locations go wherever we can go and just pull off-road and kick a little mud without destroying out cars.

It really depends on dates for me. Thats cutting it close to the 1 year anniverary for my wife and I. I don't think shed go for a jeep meet as a way to spend it.

She love the outdoors just as I do. Its not that we wouldn't want to do something like that, we just have other plans already.

We are looking into taking a cruise right around the end of July or begining of August. I'm just waiting for good prices.

Tell her it can be her anniversary gift for you, and that you will take her to ___ for a weekend as your gift to her!

She really would enjoy it as much as I do.

We had a bit of a bad experience on our honeymoon, so I told her we would try a cruise this year.

Tip: If you going to spend 8 days in mexico, don't slip and drink tap water on the 2nd day.

The July 9-11 Carlisle Chyrsler event sounds fun. I'd skip a weekend College course for that and to join you guys on the trails.

We could even run rock courses at the show and see how much HP we gained (or lost) with our mods. Wow, sounds like I'm sold, lol!

Otherwise, 4th of July weekend, or maybe August 6-8th is a possibility for me. If not until start of Fall, I could go first weekend in Spetember 3-5.

butch81385

Great, keep me posted of PA events, now that I realize it a "modest" 2-3 hours on the road. I've trek'ed that from Woodbridge, VA to Berkerly Springs WV and MD. Heck I spend 1-2 hours one-way in traffic for a 28 mile drive home several days a week!

Will need good opportunities to try out tires I'm about to order and other things very soon to come...without bigger Jeeps with sometimes inflated-egos pushing for membership-only events where they constantly hurdle trails that often damage thier hundreds to thousands of dollars of modifications ;-P. Heck this weekend would be perfect, "spring break" lol, my semesters start after the first weekend each quarter, class start 2nd week of April. Only taking one once campus, but it's on Sundays, other classes I take online since work occupies the rest of the week. For a bout one year I will work a M-F assignment, usually I'm working shifts in 24/7 environmets, gotta make the most of those precious weekends!!!

Why would they invite the public to participate in non-public events? Sure we may have to register for Showfield, but I was thinking about it or we can pick the most awesomely modded of us in chip in for the $40 even registration.

From carsatcarlisle.com website:
"YOU CONQUER THE ROCKS ON THE NORTH HILL?
Our rock crawl course consists of rocks ranging from mild to wild, as well as a concrete wall for the serious crawlers! Members of Rausch Creek will put on demonstrations throughout the weekend. The Carlisle Rock Crawl is also open to Showfield participants who want to give it a try. See Jeeps, Dodge trucks and tube buggies conquer the rocks on the North Hill!

For the M&G and nearby trails, who's in? :smiley_thumbs_up: Any other solid dates?

Gaze

I don't think they invite the public to use their own cars... I think for a fee you can use one of the Rausch Creek vehicles.

So then what is the point of requiring someone to be a paid and registered show particpant with thier own 4x4, as opposed to some 17-year-old high schooler non-participating visitor wasting a couple hours with a driver's license simply "renting" someone else's pride and joy?

Descriptions may not be very detailed, but if I'm going to drive 3 hours out and 3 hours back, I want it to be for something more than a couple hours on a dirt trail, hence my interestest in this event and other weekend long activities.

Gaze

If you're driving out to Carlisle for the rock crawling, you're going to be disappointed regardless of whether they let you take your Patriot out there. It's a pile of boulders the size of a tennis court set on top of the hill.

If you want to take your Patriot on that, go to town.

Unless they set something brand new up for this year, what you see in that video is what you get on the showfield. It hasn't changed in the last 7 years I've been going.

AntDragon
04-20-2010, 12:29 PM
Okay! So our comfort Jeeps can't do that boulder obstacle >8-0 , lol. However the reason for going would be to meet a time-worthy event, enjoy the atmosphere, then hit the trails nearby. Who said it was to go out there for one 5-minute rock crawl? I'd still participate in the showfield for a shot at people's choice awards and to show that a Patriot is'nt just a mini-Cherokee knock-off. Others could see the different things we've done, we could answer questions with an owner's persepctive.

Anyhow, like Gaze said, he attends Carlisle every year so it must be worth a start of a M&G and trail ride weekend.

The All-Jeep show in York has a crawling event, but I don't know if they have an MK class for that... They also have an off-road course that they build in the middle that registered Jeeps can try. I saw a stock Liberty make it through, only getting some nasty hang-ups and scrapes on the rocks at the end (but you can go around any obstacle). Don't know if the Pat could make it up their hill, though... Would be interesting to see someone try it (but not me in my stock FD1!).

They also measure flex, etc... Once again don't know if they break that up by class like they do for the judged categories.

Are you still doing Aug 6-8? Looks like we could be going to PA for vacation during that time.

dixiedawg
05-24-2010, 08:46 AM
Aug 6-8 would be great. There's also the Potter County Fair that week that ends on the 8th, and the Woodsman Show that weekend. Which would mean you'd need to get someplace to stay early. There are several places to camp, and State Parks nearby, and a lot of motel, hotel, B&B, cabins, etc around.

That weekend works for me, so let's just finalize it for then. August 6-8, it is.

Still having trouble locating a light trail for us to try though. But we could have a lot of other events. A convoy to the PA Grand Canyon, or to the Tioga Central Railroad, or we could visit the Fair, or the Woodsman Show. My drive up the hill that Todde and Butch did is a challenge in winter but really nothing to it in summer.

I wonder is we could reserve a group area for camping at Cherry Springs State park, or another nearby? The Grand Canyon has 2 state parks, one on either side of the canyon.

Here's a few links:

Hello again Mid-Atlantic'ers... WIfey has been complaining abotu the time I spend on jeep forums, lol, but a lot was spent on mid-terms and work related stuff.

Sure Dixiedawg, I'd like to attend the meet- couldn't make a commitment until a date or two had been set. I'd enjoy a good campout, though it might be good to have a roof nearby in case really bad weather storms in (I don't think I'll be getting one of those SUV tents, lol though they're not a bad idea). I should be able to make it up there Aug 6-8 if that is the plan. Weren't there some trails near Carlisle, or are the other spots much further away?

For another time, I might suggest Green Ridge State park (MD / WV) it's a fairly safe but interesting and scenic ride for our vehicles. Anyhow I'll try to keep an eye out for posts on here.

Dudes I wish I lived in PA, I'd be hitting the road with ya. I cant even find any Patriots to play with in my area. All of my 4X4 Friends have Wranglers, Commanders, Broncos and Blazers. So I have to take my 59 Willy or my 78 Blazer to get where they go.

This is a great site, not only for Patriot information, but our members offer a variety of other information as well. If you are interested in becomming a "Site Supporter" click the following link it doesn't cost very much only $15 or $20 and helps keep the site going. http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2872

I still haven't found any real trails in the area, but I keep looking. We can cruise into the Grand Canyon though, maybe meet at Fezz's Diner, and could possibly do a short train ride on the Tioga Central Railroad. We could also cruise to Cherry Springs State Park for the Lumberman's Festival.

Some folks might camp at Cherry Springs anyway, so would be there. Also, Cherry Springs is a Dark Sky designated park, maybe the only one in the eastern US, so if you like the stars, telescopes, and want a great place for observing, you might want to bring your scopes.

Here's some places to stay: Try to stay close to Cherry Springs, Sweden Valley, and Denton Hill.

Ok, we're pretty close to the dates here, weekend of August 6-8, but really planning the actual meet for Saturday the 7th. Try to get everyone together at Fezz's Diner. I was thinking around 10:00am, then go for a cruise, get some photos, and go from there.

If you're coming, or think you will, please post a reply here so we can see who is going to come. Thanks!

Fall would be beautiful there too, so if you folks want to we can do that too, and our winter meet was fun, so maybe one in winter too.

If you canoe, Pine Creek through the PA Grand Canyon is a fun trip, and if you would just like to try that there are outfitters there that rent canoes and rafts. I've taken groups on the rafting trips, the kids just love it, they usually send a guide along and they tell Indian stories, etc. and point out cool things in the canyon.

There's also a nice bike trail through the canyon too.

And maybe we'll all go to the Lumberman's Festival, or some of us.

And if like trains, there's the Tioga Central Railroad, that has nice scenic trips, sometimes they have ice cream sundaes on the trips.

If you want any more info on any of those, let me know.

And once again, please let us know if you're planning to come.

 I wish I were back in WA, at least for the atmosphere and lifestyle, and the view of Mt. Rainier!

For this upcoming meet I am still interested in going, though I was looking forward to getting a little (or a lot) dirty :D... Pending conditions of a project start-up at work, I should be able to take a weekday or two off in early August...plus it will give my wife time to plan for my birthday due a few days later :p.

Also hope to have RRO "Super"Slider's on for real... They are not so super because the mounting bar welds are off about half an inch or so (does not butt up to frame when held against pinch-weld, vice versa, AND the hex bolts are TOO SHORT!?!? C'mon RRO?! (yes I'm saving the rest for an appropriate thread... guess what me and a buddy went through to realize these shortcomings

OK, so far it looks like these folks are coming, please post if you should be on the list, and again if I can be of any help finding a place to stay, let me know.

I keep looking for trails AntDragon, if it gets really muddy I'll take you up my driveway anyway, lol. If anyone knows of trails in Potter, or Tioga counties, please let us know.

Folks planning to come:

Dixie, maybe look into the state forest trails used by the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally? Should give you some ideas on access roads, etc, that we can hit up. May not be too challenging, but I'm sure we can have some fun.

Also, I should probably try to find a good camping spot for that weekend since that is the woodsmen weekend, right? Hopefully there are still cheap site available somewhere (basically just need a place to put a tent and a place to go to the bathroom).

We are going to be moving sometime in August, so I'm just waiting to see what weekend thats going to be. As long as its not the weekend of the meet, I can make it.

I will let you know for sure in a week or so.

Butch, I list some public camping and state park camping in one of my earlier posts, let me know if you can't find a place.

Also, thanks for the tip for finding a trail, I'll try to look into that, but if you, or anyone else can do that, that would help too. I'm not sure how to find out if they will let us use those trails, can;t be too bad if they let rally cars run them.

Dixie, I will try to look into it when I'm not at work. If I find anything, I may ask you to go scout them to see if they are actually accessible by our jeeps. Most state parks have access roads that you are allowed to drive on. That is what we did for the Central PA meet at Pine Grove Furnace. It had rained earlier in the week so we had some mud to play in, too.

That Rally would have been fun Butch, we should have planned our meet so we could go watch some of that. Maybe next year.

I looked at some of the maps, looks like they are using dirt/gravel forest roads. Right around the Grand Canyon, so we should be able to do some of those.

Regarding a "rally" trail, I've seen a video of I think Greek Patriot owners running a rally trial in the woods, looked a like a real blast! I've watched a little bit of rally races and find them far more exciting than watching 500+ HP cars take 2,000 left turns... Even Dixie's muddy driveway would be fun after seeing his pics and vids :p My Scorpions are really stinging for dirt!

Oh, I'm deferring an OH member to our thread, maybe we'll get another person (and state) on that list?

I need to find some camping gear fast (already have fishing gear- if there'll be any of that)!

You can try the Sweden Valley Motel, sort of like cabins, not a lot more expensive than camping.

Fishing for trout mostly, the creek running through the Grand canyon is not too bad, Pine Creek. And there are other famous trout streams. The Allegheny river starts in Potter county and is good trout fishing too.

So where exactly is everyone going to meet up at? Also did you find any light trails in the area?

I would think we'd meet for breakfast Saturday morning at Fezz's Diner on rt 6, just east of Coudersport PA, and go from there. Of course if you're coming in Friday night and want to hook up, just PM some of the folks coming to share cell numbers, etc.

A photo of all the Jeeps in front of the diner would be cool too.

We sure can run the trails they used for that rally, just not sure how "off road" they really are.

I'm still looking for some real trails.

Don't know if I can make it now guys. My good friend is coming into town for 2 weeks, and that may be his only weekend in Pittsburgh. I already asked if he was interested in traveling, but understandably he wants to hang out with alot of people at home. I will keep you posted, but chances are I won't be there.

Hopefully next time!

8-O Yikes! Coudersport...As in northern PA?...hmmm that's double the distance and time of the other suggested meeting areas... I'm gonna have to think about this one when I was expecting something more in the vicinity of Harrisonburg, PA than Toronto, ON CAN (not that I mind, I'm from a family of friendly Canucks!).

I intend to head up to PA Friday (and I would have to for a +6-hour drive). Hopefully weather won't be bad, want to camp out a night or two if possible (cheap, "simple", intend to get a tent I saw with a mesh roof and star-gaze, maybe inspired by Liberty Renegade? lol).

Well, with Butch dropping out, not a lot of interest it seems. Maybe if I could find some better trails..

Maybe we can plan for a fall meet?

I'll still be there if you folks want to get together, I just haven't had a lot of time to get out and explore.

OK, so it looks like the summer meet will be canceled. But again, if anyone is going to come anyway, I'll be there. So let me know.

I'll try to pick a weekend in the fall. I'm thinking about going to Alaska for a few weeks, and hunting season comes in mid October, so I'll try to pick a weekend when the leaves are just about peak, maybe the second or third weekend in October.

I'm open to suggestions.

Though you're probably a swell guy Dixiedawg, I can't see myself driving 6-hours one way to meet a stranger and have a go at climbing their drive way. Also I just realized I am using up all but a few remaining hours of my time-off to entertain family this weekend, and will only have 3-days tops for the trip :-( Maybe end of September would be great, with colorful trees and no stray rounds?

That could also work for me because there will be a break in between college semesters, and it will give me time to get those blind-man welded RRO sliders bolted on with proper-sized bolts I had to supply myself.

And I was getting all excited for this trip, I think I'll still go camping and fishing somewhere around VA in a couple weeks or so! Sorry we could not make this work out.

Well I hope you can come, I'd like to meet you. If you have contact info, you can PM it to me and I'll check on it.

We canceled the summer meet, but are looking at a PA Mountain Fall Meet (see that thread) or another Winter Meet, depending on interest.

Send me a PM Leenco12 and we can talk about it.
