try the clear plastic tape used on boxes. make a little circle of it to fit around your fingers(minus your thumb) and roll it the carpet. If you get it cleaned up, get some extra covers for your floor so you wont have to worry about it!

I don't have a dog, but I do notice that the carpet used in the back is of really cheap quality. My last SUV was a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo and it cleaned up really easily. This carpet tends to pull and stretch the fibers out just using a shop vac, not impressed... I need to find the back rubber mat at a decent price.

...I need to find the back rubber mat at a decent price.

At Home Depot or Rona (Canadian), there's an interlocking rubber mat that's marketed for workrooms, garages, etc. I figured I would get that and cut it to fit the cargo area of the Patriot rather than spend the ridiculous money on the cargo liner that both Husky and Weathertech seem to demand. Of course, this is keeping in mind that I have no intention of putting sopping wet items back there that might drip through the joints of the mats.

As for the floor liners, those are Husky. Already bought them, despite having to wait until the 21st for my vehicle to arrive...

We have a terrier mix, a border collie, and a golden retriever... plus I have long crazy curly hair... I FEEL YA!

Yep, I'm there too... But I've become comfortable with the fact that we'll never get all the hair out. I cleaned it real good a few months ago with the shop vac and brush tip.

Everything I have has some dog fur on it, lol. If only you could order interiors based on dog fur color. Seat covers help, and covering anything else too. The back is fine, mine's all covered, and the carpets covered by rubber mats, and custom seat covers. My dog mostly rides in his crate in the back though. I'm usually loaded up, so no room other than that, and it's safer for them too. Unless you hav some kind of a dog seat belt.

The Hoover vacuums in the 1980's had a furniture end that had a rubber strip with little rubber fingers. It was/is the only tool that ever took animal hair back off the carpet. Perhaps they still make it. I still have my old vacuum. I've tried the tape too but it is extremely time consuming and, for me, not worth the time because the hair is all back the next time the dogs ride. The old Hoover tool easily sucked up 85% of the hair right away leaving only a small amount that needed to be "picked".

I see these Hoover "Porta-Power" vacuums all the time at thrift stores and junk stores.

Two things (I have a Swedish Vallhund--Corgi/Husky cross who also sheds not only the guard hairs (like porcupine quills in the carpet) but the soft fur beneath that just balls up):

1) have the dog treated every 60 days with a "furminator" treatment--available at PetsMart for about $60. You can buy the special shampoo & conditioner and comb and do it yourself.
2) there's a rubber comb/squeegee device that I also found at PetsMart that will gather the fur and then can be vacuumed off. It's designed to clean upholstry of fur/hair.

Full service car washes hate to see me in line--they know there'll be nose prints on ALL windows and fur all over--I usually tip a little extra.

We had a Beagle for almost 14 years and the 3 colored (white, brown, black) tiny needles from his fur were absolutely everywhere ... all around the house, clothing, car upholstery ... you name it. No chance to get rid of them from any textile material with a vacuum cleaner so after some time I discovered the trick with the wide packing tape. I used the dispenser for easier handling, pulled out somethin like a 10 inch piece and tabbed it on the cleaned surface. This works but takes a lot of time, patience and a lot of tape :o

Since our beloved Beagle passed away last year we now have this:

Daisy 8 weeks old

Her coat does not shed at all unless combed, so no more problems with fur everywhere. The long fur has a lot of other problems though ... but that would take a lot of explaining and a separate thread;)

Good luck cleaning up and try the tape ... it really works!

Daisy`s really clever - look, she fetches cold canned beer on demand:D

I have used a shopvac and the dog's grooming brush. Then we got a Miniature Schnauzer, no shedding, no dog smell, but mandatory grooming every 2-3 months. Nothing is easy.
And for Daisy, sharp looking dog you got there.

Nice dog, my last Pointer I was down to two names for her, Daisy and Dixie, and Dixie won out cause she was a southern girl.

Golden Retriever in our household. A shopvac and duct tape gets most of the hair. One place I never bothered to vacuum was underneath the spare tire cover. After about a year there was enough fur accumulated to make another dog.

Other than taking the seats out, how do the rest of you get the pile of hair that falls between the seat and the console?

I have a flat, narrow extension tip for the vacuum hose to clean tight spots. You simply squeeze the seat a bit to get there or you can move the front seats all the way front or back and work from under the seat ... no big deal ;)

I have all the tools to do a good cleaning, big shop vac with 2/12" hose, bissell pet hair hand vacuum, and now the dog hammock. We cleaned up well using the crevice tool between seat back and cushion but not perfect and it takes too long. Finally gave up since our Spitz walks through a room and leaves a trail of hair. In our house dog hair is a condiment.

The hammock seems to gather most of the hair and cleanup is faster and easier. Only other solution is a robot dog instead of real one. Our yellow lab does not shed as heavily as the Spitz and the cat doesn't like riding in the car.

My dog Ollie mostly rides in his crate in the back, so not much hair for me to clean.

There are micro tools for the shop vacs too, I used some for tight spaces, I have also taped a straw to the nozzle to use for tight spaces too.

I find myself taking a lint roller to the headliner of my Patriot far too often...'tis a curse of having black dogs and a light headliner. Otherwise, I vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Having leather seats helps.

I have a yellow lab as well and I just fold the back seats down and when shes done riding I just picked up a couple of lint rollers to roll it down. It did take me about 30 min and 1 and a half lint rollers but I did get it cleaned up. After that I find that a queen size bedsheet fits perfectly to attach to the front seat headrest and backseat headrest and there is almost no cleanup, just a few spots where the hair falls down by the doors. Hope this helps.

Best bet, keep the fur off by covering things up.

In my truck it's easy, it's all rubber mats, I just open both doors and use the leafblower, or air from the compressor, to blow it all out.

I fold the seats down so that he never sits on the seats, but the rear cargo area gets bad if i let it go to long. I will try the leafblower/compressed air idea

Between our Goldens and our Labs, we have seen a LOT of hair. Having tried vacuums, blankets/sheets, tape, brushes, rollers and more, THE BEST I have come up with for serious cleaning is a pair of latex gloves. Do not use nitrile gloves. They must be latex. Be sure to have extras. Put on the gloves and wipe the carpet with your hand. Fur will pile up easily and completely. Best prevention is a combination of the Furminator (awesome tool) and a blanket or sheet.
