: REF EVIC Display - no artist/song info??
Ollie18 10-20-2007, 08:02 AM Hey Folks - I have yet to find anything about this in my manual. Does the REF Radio not display the Artist and Song info in the EVIC? I am only able to see the Station name. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks, Ollie
nearly.normal.jimmy 10-20-2007, 09:51 AM fwiw..Ive rented a BUNCH of PT Cruisers with that radio, sirius and EVIC and have never seen more than the station name.
I may have missed something but tried every button.

The REF radio (base radio) does not have a display capable of displaying text. The EVIC (in the cluster) shows channel (or preset info in AM/FM mode) information, not song info.
quasimodem51 10-22-2007, 11:30 AM Ollie18: My EVIC only displays station name and/or frequency. When playing MP3s burned to disk, the EVIC displays the track number. On Satellite, the EVIC displays the station name. From the looks of things, it displays the whole name up to the length of the display and truncates the rest (as opposed to scrolling the entire name).
Ollie18 10-22-2007, 11:49 AM Now this is annoying. Oh well. So does the 6 Disc show the artist info?
Oh and FWIW, I will probably install a button somewhere more convenient for the EVIC scroll. Whoever designed it that way that you have to grab around the steering wheel needs to be punished. So frustrating.
Thanks for the info!!
quasimodem51 10-23-2007, 07:56 AM Ollie18: I will have to check. I have never put in an audio CD into the player yet. I have burned about 120 MP3s to a CDR. The EVIC shows diddly for the MP3s - just track number and maybe disk number. As I said, I will check. I dont recall what my NAV screen displays.
MEGULA 10-23-2007, 08:22 AM How about the display info when hooking up an IPOD?
AZCycle 10-23-2007, 11:55 AM Nope... iPod won't display, either. If I remember correctly, the EVIC just displays "aux" or something similar. I'm not too worried about it though... I know what songs I have on my ipod. ;)
Ollie18 10-23-2007, 12:04 PM I know what songs I have on my ipod. ;)
LOL - I wish...I have 12GB full of stuff on my ipod. :notworthy: But it works ok. The flip console is a neat feature, unlike Audi or VW where you Ipod integration is in the glovebox, if ordered.
MEGULA 10-23-2007, 12:13 PM heh heh - We can hear just the few opening notes of a song and know what it is... and whether we're going to skip to the next song or not.
Isn't there a game show about that? Hmmm... sign me up! :p
nearly.normal.jimmy 10-23-2007, 01:21 PM The only way to get song info at all is with the REC unit and the only way to get iPod info with that is adding the iPod integration.
These Mopar stereos/evic integration systems are not the brightest apple on the tree are they?
Ollie18 10-23-2007, 01:37 PM That's why I chose to go a different route. I will use the AUX in the front, hardwire the damn wire into the centerconsole, split the 12V and put another outlet in the center consolte, use my Ipod Belkin charger, and voila, I paid 20usd for the same set up on the REF (charge and listen) a 125 harness will provide when bought on ebay. Might be more hassle, but who cares. I modded more then enough cars in my life, and this is peanuts. It will be a clean install.
nearly.normal.jimmy 10-23-2007, 01:45 PM When iPod integration or similar harness is coupled with the REF unit, does this give any added info readout anywhere?
Not sure where it would.........but... (?)
So unless you have the REC, that harness is just a charger and an aux jack so to speak?
Ollie18 10-23-2007, 01:52 PM Yes - you are correct. Charge and Listen is all you get. Only controll is via the Volume button. HOWEVER, getting this harness in connection with the Sirius can eb complicated. Splicing involved and you have to go thru a different boot-up sequence. And for me, this is too much of a hassle and not justifiable when comparing cost spend on results received.
No, it will not display anywhere but the Ipod.
Ollie18 10-23-2007, 02:32 PM Here is the PDF I received from integrated_solutions on ebay for the charge & listen harness in connection with the Sirius set up:

Jimmy - might be something useful for your site!! Granted this only applies to their product here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150100930663&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005
NOTE: I'm not affiliated with this seller at all. Just passing on the info I found.

Well, I've only got the 4Gig model and am only using half of it, so it's not as bad. Besides, even on "random" the iPod still seems to play the same 30 songs over and over. Much like popular radio, but without the annoying commercials. LOL
Ollie18 10-23-2007, 03:16 PM I hear ya man! I just kept adding and adding...some of the stuff I have no idea was still in my possesion. But I figured, why not!
nearly.normal.jimmy 10-23-2007, 04:51 PM The flip console is a neat feature, unlike Audi or VW where you Ipod integration is in the glovebox, if ordered.
We may be talking about 2 different things, but the actual iPod integration kit for the Patriot REC unit ends in the glovebox also. You control all the functions of the iPod with the REC unit and the cable keeps it charged.
Kinda cool that it displays the big Jeep logo on the screen of the iPod. Of course it's in the glovebox so no one sees it .. but still...
Ollie18 10-23-2007, 05:28 PM Oh I know...I was refering to the REF unit and that it would be worthless if it was in the glovebox. So the flip console is a neat feature as it is right there.
nearly.normal.jimmy 10-23-2007, 05:31 PM ahhh yea.....
Sure would have been nice of them to put a little aux jack and cigarette lighter just above the outlet no one ever uses.
quasimodem51 10-24-2007, 08:33 AM The info in the NAV screen would be cool but I cannot justify the expense of a dealer install of $427.00 Canadian. That's more than my 30gig iPod cost for crissakes. I'm just too chicken to attempt to install the aftermarket kit myself even with n.n.j's informative how-to. I had settled for the FM transmitter trick. Not ideal by any means. Too much radio noise and static here in the big city. I am currently burning normalized MP3s to CD-R. Not as random access as with MP3s on the iPod. Less than ideal too. I can't win.
Ollie18 10-24-2007, 09:00 AM quasi - come on over to Detroit! I help you out!
nearly.normal.jimmy 10-24-2007, 09:19 AM I am currently burning normalized MP3s to CD-R.
I really like the way the REC unit handles mp3 disks. Seems logical to me with the folder structure. The iPod setup, although functional, is a ROYAL PIA to navigate and get around in.
quasimodem51 10-24-2007, 01:19 PM I have found the RND function with the MP3s a bit spotty. I will need to pay better attention but I sense the player will randomly select a previously played song before it has exhausted playing the whole disk of files once (or, I assume a folder of songs). More listening and research. I haven't tried placing tunes in folders.
I had to do the normalizing thing because some oldies I had to increase the volume for and the next newie tune would then blow the dust off the cones big time. Apple's volume normalizing is not ideal.
