So after a couple of weeks my dealership finally got in my roof rack cross rails and my tanneau cover for the hatch.
I have a black Ltd. with the silver accents on the doors, bumpers and the roof rack itself is silver. The cross rails I got are black and would seem to match the black roof racks better.
Does anyone have silver cross rails? I'm thinking maybe they ordered the wrong color? It would look nicer with silver.

I got silver ones on my 08 I just picked up. Will post some pix later.

EDIT: Correction. They are indeed black. Just walked outside and checked it out. My bad! Sorry about the confusion...no idea why I thought they were silver.

It's not that it looks bad, I don't mind the color because my Patriot is black. I'll leave them on there for now but I would prefer the silver.

The parts guy said that they must have ordred rails from an 07 because they don't even have a parts catalog for the 08s. I'd like to see a pic and bring it to the dealership and tell them, you make them, give me some.

Here in Norway the Limited has got the silver rails, the Sport (without any extras) got black.

Maybe I won't be calling my salesman then.....

Would you mind sharing what they charged you for the adjustable cross rails and tonneau cover? I've been thinking of adding them on as well when I finally bite the bullet and purchase a new Patriot. Many thanks!

I ordered them with the Patriot but as parts because I didn't want the whole security and convienience group so I don't believe they showed up on my invoice. Roughly about $250 I would imagine? I'll see if there is anything showing the price in my package and let you know when I find it.

Does anyone know how to get the cross bars off of the roof racks? I just bought a new Jeep Patriot which has the cross bars, but we would like to take them off for normal driving to increase gas mileage. Then we could put them back on if needed. We even went to the dealership last Saturday and they could not figure out how to get them off.

Well I just put mine on with my salesman the other day. On mine at least there are two turnable knobs on each rail. One on each side, that screws into a bracket that goes underneath the unremovable rail. Once you loosen it off all the way it should just lift off, the other side of the under bracket just clips into the cross rail and should just let go as you try to lift it off. It is really straight forward on mine which makes me think you may have a different style?
Do you have a close up picture of where they are attached?

Removing Cross Rails.
Removing the cross rails (on limited version)

Went to the dealer yesterday and he told me that there are two types of cross rails, one can be removed easily (as explained by Matty13, the bracket just let go), not so easy for the other one as the bracket is held by a metal pin.

There are two choices for the other one.
- As mentioned in this forum, you pop off the 4 black covers in the corners, then remove 2 bolts at each corner, take the whole rack off, slide off the cross rails and reinstall. I am a little concerned about leaks !!. but I have not examined the bolts, it was mentioned to use Teflon tape on the bolts.

- The other way. The bracket underneath the cross rails is held by a metal pin. The pin has been "hammered" in, and cannot be pull out, so the idea is too drill the plastic on the other side and push the pin out. I guess the pin can be reinserted, if not one could use stainless steel bolts.

As anybody try the drill option ?? any other ideas

Thanks

I still can't get over the fact they charge $200 for a cheapie tonnau. It's not even listed on the Jeep accessory website anymore--justforjeeps.com has it for $210 while the ones for the Grand Cherokee are $77!!

Yeah, it's not really worth it. I shouldn't have got the cover, at least not at that price.

:banana:On the 08 model the cover is part of the security package at $735 and you get an alarm system and computer read outs in your dash under the speedometer, and a garage door opener which I haven't figured out how to set yet, wouldn't have ordered this package but now that we have it I check the gas mileage on it after every trip.
