Finally wore out auto tranny 99 Cherokee towing behind motorhome and offroading. Looking for new vehicle. Hoping to learn from forum if the Patriot will replace my Cherokee. If it is towable 4 down with auto tranny, then will want to know more about it. I belong to several RV electronic bulletin boards. Many motorhomers tow Jeeps for several reasons and many of us have been on our bulletin boards asking about the Patriot's towability. So, I am the conduit to 100's, if not 1000's of RVers waiting for info on Patriot's towability. Pending answer to towability issue, I will want to obtain more information. Knowledgable person(s) may contact me directly or thru forum.

You ask if the Patriot will replace your Cherokee, but in what aspects? Towability aside, the Patriot will be a more comfortable onroader than the Cherokee. Offroad, however, the Patriot will not be able to compete with them. As for towability, I couldn't be sure. It has been my impression that flat towing any 4wd vehicle is murder on the transfercase and transmission. It's a big no-no to tow Jeeps like that behind motorhomes. I can't really see a Patriot being much different.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree. Unless you switch to locking hubs it is not advisable to flat tow a Jeep over long distances.

The Patriot on the other hand.... With the new 'high-speed' drivetrain I have no idea. You could probably tow the manual tranny. But again, I have no idea how the tranny/trans-axle/transfer case well react. Will the gears will still spin etc.? I have absolutely no idea now the CVT would react.

My advise.... Until the Patroit hits dealer lots and real people (not the press) get their hands on it, we really won't have any idea of its REAL capabilities/limitations. If at all possible, I would wait until then before passing any jugdements.
