With all the bit*hing on this board of no diesel engines in Jeeps, this slipped under the radar??? Where are you guys (and gals) when there is possibly important Jeep news?

According to oh20, who has yet to be wrong, the diesel Wrangler will appear in the United States in October of 2010, as a 2011 model;

While I'm at it, check this out:

That's awesome news. Now you can get a Wrangler that has Patriot like fuel economy!

If this happens, it will be interesting to see if it will be all 50 states emissions legal. The Liberty wasn't.

Since new emissions standards are coming in 2010, I'm sure Jeep will have it 50 state compliant.

I wonder what the price point will be on one of these puppies?

It's a good idea, although a lot of the diesel in the US is not real clean, unlike other countries.

As far as emissions, I was surprised when I bought my Pat that we needed to follow the California emissions in Pennsylvania now.

Not as many places sell deisel either, and at most places where I buy gas it's more expensive than regular unleaded too.

I'll have to see how this pans out. I was planning to maybe buy another Patriot before they quit making them, at least now I might have other options.

The 2 big items on my list when I was looking, and found the Pat, were: Mileage (I drive a lot of miles), and off road capability. Of course there are many other items on my list, but those were Must Have items. That really narrowed my list.

There's a guy here in Georgia that has a wrangler 4 door rubicon with 35" tires, warn winch, 4" coils. And it's a CRD

he says he gets 20-22 mpg even with the lift and tires.

He said he bought it from a guy who works for jeep.

motor is VM Motori 2.8L 4 cyl turbo.

This gives me more faith in Fiat's leadership. As soon as Chrysler divests themselves of government ownership I'll be interested in purchasing a vehicle.

I can't wait to see that.
Beyond the fact that there will be a diesel Wrangler, it means that diesel in Jeep with Fiat is still a priority - which is a good thing.

I would love to have 340ft-lbs of torque in the Pat! Can you imagine?

This could be evidence that Fiat has a clue.

Diesel Wrangler is nice, it comes with 5sp autotranny or 6sp manual, average consumption 9-12l/100km. The same engine is on Cherokee/Nitro and Grand Voyager in non-American markets.

The Italians , as well as the Germans, make some pretty decent Diesel Engines !!

For all USA Jeep owners information, especially Patriot owners:

They sell the Patriot in europe with a 2.0 Volkswagen-Audi diesel engine and from 2011 will switch to a Mercedes 2.2 due to new EURO 5 emission regulations (the 2.0 vw diesel does not comply to that,it complies to EURO 4 regulations).

Both diesel engines carry DPF -diesel particle filter, and the emissions are lower than of any gasoline engine . You actually see no smoke coming out of your pipe. Mine is clean. If you stick your finger in it,you'll only pull it out with a little bit of dust on.

European emission regulations are more severe than US.

So I would think of other reasons for the US not wanting any diesels.I don't want to speculate, but it might have to do with gasoline and diesel production.

No one see this at the bottom of the article? Maybe its a recent update.
"We have now received two credible statements that the American (and presumably Canadian) Wrangler will not be diesel-powered for the foreseeable future, and that the announcement of a diesel Wrangler in the U.S. was misinterpreted."

Why did the CRD KJ Liberty sneak by with so little hype? Of course the usual, no factory advertising support. But with a diesel fan base like this I would think the word would have spread around pretty fast. I never knew they made one until one day I heard one running and took a close look at it.
