This seems like a no brainer, but there is a catch that can stump you.

1- Go To YouTube and Play your video. You will see in the address bar of your browser an address that looks like this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QDCdVGQ6o_w

2- Write down or copy to your clipboard just the videos ID which comes after the '=', and is just a series of numbers and sometimes symbols.
In this case it is ObpolxI3klA.

3- On to the post. Once here and creating your post, simply enter the video's id you wrote down where you would like the video to be placed.

4-Click and mouse over the ID so the whole thing is highlighted.

5-Click the 'YouTube' icon located above bundled in with the font and size controls etc. This will put the YOUTUBE command around your video id.

6-Click preview post to make sure all is good.

7-Eat ice cream.

Awesome write up. The button that nearly.normal.jimmy referred to in the editor is this one: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/images/editor/utube.gif

It only available on the advanced editor...not in the quick reply box. (You need to click Go Advanced to access it)

Jimmy,

Many thanks for revealing the 'secret' to successfully embedding YouTube videos in JP.com forum posts. The fix wasn't obvious, at least to me. Now with that job done, I have another challenge for you:

Just how does one embed a non-YouTube video?

For example I've tried every which way I can think of to embed a homemade flash video from Photobucket with nary a glimmer of hope or progress. All I usually end up with is the embed code displayed as text in an box labelled CODE or HTML. Can you work your magic one more time and solve this problem, too?

TIA & take care my friend ... I'll eat my ice cream AFTER you figure this one out.

I have wondered the same thing.

Many times the vids will have an 'embed' address next to it but I can never get it to work.

Wow, ya think he forgot to read the manual on how many inches of water they could forge?
(that's gotta be a helpless feeling..)

Would like to have seen how he tried to explain that to the insurance company.
