: Potter Co, PA winter meet 2010
dixiedawg 12-08-2009, 10:34 AM Some of us talked about this in another thread, so I thought I'd start this one.
Several folks said they would come, we just need to pick a weekend sometime after the holidays.
And anyone else who wants to come, just post it here.
And here's a link to the other thread where this got started:
http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15547&page=2
joesjeeps 12-08-2009, 11:20 AM I would certainly consider it.
dixiedawg 12-08-2009, 01:46 PM Cool, check out some of the links in the other thread for things to do when you come.
Maybe we could have something in the summer too. I'll have to look for Jeep trails nearby.
I think for the winter just getting up my hill will be a bit of an effort.
joesjeeps 12-08-2009, 02:19 PM There's a lot of abandoned railroad right of ways down there, but I'm not sure sure how Patriot friendly or accessible they'd be. A friend of mine operates the Tioga Central RR out of Wellsboro and my uncle is a conductor there. Too bad Conrail pulled the rails out of the Pine Creek Gorge on that line. http://www.tiogacentral.com
EDIT: I checked the TC website and it looks like the line has new operator this year. It seems like no more vintage freight trains or railfan weekend. I guess it's the riders that pay the bills, not the shutterbugs. I'll have to see what happened.
dixiedawg 12-08-2009, 03:11 PM Very cool, I've been on their train a couple times. It's one of those things folks like to do when they visit. We've even seen Bald Eagles from the train. Oh and they have a Sundae ride too, ice cream sundae on a nice train ride, very cool.
I like the trail through the canyon, nice bike trail. Before that the only way through was to raft or canoe.
I know there's a pretty tough trail going down into the canyon too. Took my pick up once and it was almost too wide for the turns.
There has to be other Jeep trails around too.
I'm in and a caravan with todde would be a great idea!
Schoat333 12-08-2009, 03:38 PM Hopefully I can make it.
Ill watch for a date.
UA_who 12-08-2009, 03:57 PM Sounds like fun.
todde702 12-08-2009, 05:32 PM I'm in and a caravan with todde would be a great idea!
Yea Buddy! :smiley_thumbs_up:
I think it'd be a fun trip. Camp out one night somewhere...hot camp fire, cold beer! I'm betting my Brother and my Nephew would tag along too.
dixiedawg 12-09-2009, 07:27 AM Camp out? Hmm, I still do some of that in the summer, but getting too old for the winter camping. Winter camping for me these days is a motel or cabin, lol.
If you're considering coming, there are several inexpensive places to stay nearby.
Sweden Valley Cabins has cabins that are not too bad and reasonably priced.
Laurelwood Inn & Steakhouse is more of a motel, and I see a lot of the snowmobilers stay there. Of course they are right on the trail and have a decent steakhouse.
Lindy Motel & Cottages have some nice little cottages.
I think they have cabins at Ski Denton too, and a very steep run for a small ski area, might the the steepest I've seen in the eastern part of the country.
Here's a link to a page with those places and more listed with contact info

dixiedawg 12-09-2009, 10:17 AM Here's a link to the web cam from the Mill Stream Inn, which is nearby, it might help you see snow or whatever if you come:

Gaze, you want to take a stab at a weekend for this? I'm always there so they all work for me.
Terasec 12-09-2009, 10:35 AM 6 hrs from NYC,
4 hrs from my place in PA.
PLEASE let there be a warm spell that weekend, Pretty please.
dixiedawg 12-14-2009, 11:19 AM Good thing it wasn't this past weekend. We got freezing rain across the state yesterday. I drove from home to Pittsburgh last night, roads that were treated were fine, others coated in ice. I had to avoid the ruts in the snow on my drive from my trip up the hill on Thursday as those tracks were covered in ice. So I avoided those and drove in the deeper snow (maybe 6-8 inches) where I could get some traction.
Watched the Pittsburgh news last night. They showed a bunch of folks sliding around on the ice. Sort of funny to watch, till you realize there are people in those cars. One girl was killed, slid down the hill, got herself stopped, but then someone ran into her stopped vehicle and she was killed.

joesjeeps 12-14-2009, 11:28 AM Not a fun stretch of weather. Heavy lake effect snow and lakeshore flooding around here. Oh well, November was a cake walk, so it had to change sometime.
Topcat 12-16-2009, 05:20 AM I live in Erie,
Where are you looking to jeep at?
dixiedawg 12-16-2009, 08:12 AM Coudersport, PA area, on route 6. I live about 6 miles east of Coudersport.
We still need a date. Some of you folks might get an extra day off for President's Day, so maybe that weekend? Anyone will work for me, so maybe you guys can talk it over?
We can do a spring and/or summer too if this works.
If any of you have snowmobiles, you might consider bringing those. That way you'll be sure to make it up my hill, lol.
The photo in my sig is at the bottom of my driveway last Nov.

I do get an extra day off for presidents day.
For those that dont know, that weekend would be Jan 16th and 17th. Presidents day is monday the 18th.
That weekend would be good for me.
dixiedawg 12-19-2009, 06:28 PM Works for me, I don't get the day off for the holiday, but I don't have to travel either, will give you folks Monday to travel back.
Snowmobiles are using the trail already.
As for dates, the third weekend in January would be pretty decent for me. Otherwise I'd have to wait until February. My travel schedule for work is looking pretty brutal to start the year.
dixiedawg 12-19-2009, 08:59 PM Is that the same weekend? 16-17?
Schoat333 12-21-2009, 08:07 AM Is that the same weekend? 16-17?
The way the days fall we actually have 5 weekends in January.
the 16-17th is the third weekend.
dixiedawg 12-21-2009, 12:24 PM Not much snow, but I got this video going down my driveway yesterday. Hard to tell how step and rough it is in the video. I was driving my Tracker, the Patriot was in the garage.
<embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid274.photobucket.com/albums/jj270/dixiedawgpgh/9_12_21086.flv">

Your link didnt work but I see it when I quote you.
Looks like a fun driveway. :smiley_thumbs_up:
dixiedawg 12-22-2009, 08:11 AM Thanks, you're right, it works in the quote, lol.
Not a lot of snow yet either, it gets worse, lol. And the snowmobiles use it and pack the snow down. Sometimes that helps a bit though, and sometimes not.
I'd love to video several Patriot going up there though, and maybe get some photos at the top along the snowmobile trail. I can picture several Patriots in the photo with snowmobiles blasting past.
dixiedawg 12-22-2009, 08:23 AM Here's a few shots of my Tracker last year along their trail, sort of how I imagine the photos with the group of Patriots will be.

dixiedawg 12-23-2009, 10:01 AM As soon as you folks can let me know on the date...
Is the weekend of the 16th going to work?
joesjeeps 12-23-2009, 10:18 AM It will be a late decision for me. The wife's ever changing schedule and the driving weather may be factors. My schedule is flexible though, so I don't have a preferred date. What ever works best for the majority should be fine at this end.
Schoat333 12-23-2009, 10:31 AM The weekend of the 16th would probably work best for me since it will give me that extra day. The Wife will probably want to stop in Erie to visit some Mercyhurst friends.
dixiedawg 12-27-2009, 11:22 AM Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
Sunday today, still about 6 inches of snow, mostly slush yesterday, was fun to drive in, lol.
A little less than 4 weeks until the weekend of the 16th-17th, and some have off Monday. So is that when we want to meet?
There's also Presidents Day weekend in Feb. if that would be better?

Either weekend could probably work well for me. Looking at my schedule, both are pretty ideal.
Pat
dixiedawg 12-30-2009, 08:46 AM OK, let's shoot for the 16-17 of January. Can we meet for lunch on Saturday? Then we can try my hill in the light, get some photos, etc.
If that works, we can meet at Fezz's diner sort of an old time diner
Fezz's diner
9 Ice Mine Road
Coudersport, PA 16915
If you're coming, PM me and we can exchange cell numbers.
And Gaze, bring me a site sticker and I'll pay you for it when we meet. And let me know if I can pay you to be a site supporter, as I don't have paypal.
dixiedawg 01-04-2010, 10:45 AM Are we on for that weekend? This coming weekend is the big Snowdeo for the snowmobile club. They have plenty of snow for it this year.
I had a surprise going up my hill last Wednesday. I was in the Tracker (left the Jeep in the garage, trying to save getting too many miles on it) and found this on the way up the hill.

Looks like about a five hour drive for me. Not too bad and the wife is off that weekend so I should be good to go.
This place http://www.millstreaminn.com/ seems pretty nice for the stay too (though I'm sure there are cheaper places)
What do you say Gaze? Still up for caravaning out there on the 16th?
dixiedawg 01-05-2010, 08:27 AM Mill Stream Inn looks nice, they have a web cam on their site too. I don;t know anyone who stayed there though, so I have no advice on them.
We don;t have to meet at Fezz's either, there are other places.
dixiedawg 01-06-2010, 03:10 PM Anyone else want to meet next weekend??
Not a big deal, just some of us can meet in person, maybe grab a bite, and we can get a group photo, and anyone wanting to try it can follow me up the hill when I head to my house.
joesjeeps 01-06-2010, 03:52 PM As I said, it will be a last minute decision for me. Now complicating things is my local 4x4 club's winter run of seasonal, unplowed roads on the 16th. Without front recovery points, the Patriot is technically excluded from the run, but there's usually some wiggle room. With the stock tires, I probably shouldn't even be considering it. Anyway, I'm guessing if my wife is free for the day, she may prefer meeting up with the local gang in ski country after the run for drinks and dinner.
We're not that far away from Coudersport, so it's possible to run down your way earlier for a few hours. We could have lunch and explore your your neck of the woods and then we'd meet up with our other group for dinner later on since it would be right on our way home. Could be a long, fun day.:)
At this point, President's Weekend is looking better for me. I'll be away on business all next week so convincing the wife to wake up real early on Saturday, pack the Jeep, and run might be a bit of a challenge... but I'll run it by her.
Nevermind... the wife will be down in Miami that weekend for a Bachelor party. I should be good to go that weekend.
todde702 01-07-2010, 08:51 AM Cool Gaze! So are we doing this? Terasec and Schoat33? You guys still in and if Gaze and I caravan up, does anyone want to plan to join in? If Gaze and I leave at 8am or 9am we'd have the following catch points:

I will talk to the Wife tonight to make sure, but I should be in.
I was just waiting for everyone else to confirm before I posted. :smiley_thumbs_up:
Since I'm attending and I run the site, I might just make this front page news for JeepPatriot.com!
Schoat333 01-07-2010, 12:02 PM Since I'm attending and I run the site, I might just make this front page news for JeepPatriot.com!
If everyone shows, we will have one of the biggest patriot meets to date.
dixiedawg 01-07-2010, 12:09 PM Hopefully we set a trend. If this works out to be a good place to meet, summer would be great. So much to do in the area, outdoors wise.
I just need to find some summer trails.
dixiedawg 01-17-2010, 10:10 AM Butch and his friends showed up at the diner just after I got there, and then Todde made it not long after that. I have some great photos and a decent video to post soon. I have to give them both credit for making it up my hill with all the snow and ice, and no chains. I went first, but know the road and had 4 chains on. There were a couple stops, and restarts, but they made it.
Was great to meet you guys live. The great folks here are great in person as well.
I think we need to plan a summer meet now too.
Who would I ask about making window clings for the Jeeps that have the logo of the forum on them? I would maybe add something like "mid-atlantic summer meet" or something along those lines, we can decide that later. I'd like to try to make clings for use as an alternative to the stickers with just the JeepPatriot.Com logo too.

I don't know how to add these, like some others do, as thumbnails that you can scroll through, but here's a couple photos from yesterday anyway.
todde702 01-17-2010, 04:32 PM Yea, that was a fun time and Fezz's food was very good. I enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone :smiley_thumbs_up: and also enjoyed flogging my 'Riot up that icy hill (I look forward to the video too). Of course my camera batteries died (and like an idiot left the new ones in the motel room  ) just as we got up to the top so I didn't get many shots of all of us together. I uploaded what I did take to the following album:
http://www.jeeppatriot.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=639&ppuser=
Hopefully it works.
Thanks for the burritos Butch! They were delicious. Though I think you could have used a few more beer choices! :p
I ran my Scangauge for the entire trip and recorded 23.2 MPG heading up and 24.9 MPG for the trip back down. Keep in mind this was a lot of uphill mountain roads where I'd watch the scangauge read 8 mpg :wow: while climbing up one side, then 91+ mpg :D going down the other side.
todde702 01-17-2010, 05:33 PM Oh yea, and let's hear it for the FDI's keeping up with a FDII with chains! :smiley_thumbs_up: LOL Of course we had to carry a lot more speed going up which made for a very bumpy and hairy ride. The term slew...or yaw comes to mind...
Matt09Silver 01-17-2010, 06:31 PM Looks like you guys had a great time! I can't wait til I get a job that actually lets me remember what a weekend is!
Looks like a great time, guys! I wish I could have made it.
As for me, I only had to drop $700 on heater repairs!
butch81385 01-17-2010, 08:26 PM What a great weekend. Sorry you couldn't make it Gaze.
Todd, we only had 23 different types of beer (including your Guinness). I think that is a good mix for a weekend!
I will try to get some pics up this week, but I didn't take all that many...
Though I am glad that I don't have to push my jeep out of any more ditches... 3 pushes is enough for one weekend!
dixiedawg 01-18-2010, 06:46 AM Well, I uploaded the video to youtube, just opened an account, so I have no idea what I'm doing, lol. But I'm going to try. If anyone has advice on these couple of How-To's, please let me know.
1, How do you put the thumbnail photos on the site here, with several in a group?
2, how do you embed a youtube video (if it shows up here them I guess I figured it out)
Sounds like you guys had some fun after you went back to the motel. I was wondering if you played cards, thought about that when you were at my place, but not many games for 6 players.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lN_59HqHO4U&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lN_59HqHO4U&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
dixiedawg 01-18-2010, 06:51 AM WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO, got the video to work. I guess some of us old folks can figure things out, lmao.
In the video Todde is first, then Butch.
Oh and guess who had to walk up the hill after taking the video, even though my Patriot was already up there.
And before we met, I was driving through town, saw a Patriot in front of me, and knew it was one of the folks from here, because the muffler was painted black. Turned out it was Butch.
todde702 01-18-2010, 07:53 AM For the picture thumbnails, when you are writing your message, scroll down some to the Manage Attachments section. There you can upload a few pictures that'll show up as thumbnails that pop-up.
Good job on the video! Funny, it felt like I was moving a touch faster then that.
Yea, we knocked a few beers back in Butch's cabin. I didn't have any trouble falling asleep that night. I woke up about 8:30am Sunday and headed back over to Fezz's for coffee and some breakfast.
And just so everyone knows, in the picture, from the right, it's Alex (Butch's friend), Todde702, DixieDawg, Butch81385 and Scott (Butch's other friend)
dixiedawg 01-18-2010, 11:21 AM Thanks Todde, I'll try it with 2 new ones
dixiedawg 01-18-2010, 11:22 AM I guess you can teach an old Dawg new tricks, lmao
joesjeeps 01-18-2010, 12:00 PM Sorry I missed out. Maybe next time. Dixie, thanks for setting this up.
dixiedawg 01-18-2010, 12:08 PM We'll do it again, maybe this summer Joe. North central PA should work for a lot of people, central to Pittsburgh, Philly, New York, and not too far from Toronto, and other places. Pretty country too.
Nice photos too Todde! Kettle creek is a great fly fishing area. You would love that drive in the fall.
bwpakk 01-18-2010, 07:05 PM Hi Dixie, really wanted to make it to Potter Co as I'm only around 2-1/2 hours from you. Granddaughter born on Dec. 9 in Strong Memorial in Rochester has been there ever since due to a hernia. She was expected to go home this past weekend but now set for tomorrow. A summer meet or another winter ride sounds good. Looks like everybody had a great time. Thanks for the info on your chains, I've thought about it but I don't think my 15's will clear the edges of the fenders. Maybe next time I'm down toward Mansfield I'll pm you before I go. Appreciate all the work you did for this past weekend, thanks.
Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals anyone?
dixiedawg 01-19-2010, 09:57 AM What is it, and where? Oh and when?
I know we just had a meet, but it was a lot of fun, great to meet folks from here, just wish we had more time to chat. So I really want to have a summer meet too.
Schoat333 01-19-2010, 12:01 PM Sorry I missed out guys.
I had a catastophic computer failure last weekend. I spent this weekend building a new one, and then trying to recover all of my data from the old one.
I'll be sure to make the next meet.
dixiedawg 01-19-2010, 12:09 PM Bummer Schoat, hope you have that all sorted out now.
We'll shoot for summer, maybe in conjuntion with something else going on, but not in the same park. I also wonder if the local Jeep dealers might sponser something. help out a bit, who knows.
dixiedawg 01-26-2010, 03:07 PM A couple more photos from the meet.
Matt09Silver 01-28-2010, 03:51 PM I may be able to pull off the Carlisle thing!
dixiedawg 01-29-2010, 06:47 AM That would be cool. The more the better.
