: How to add side air deflectors

This might be no brainer for most, but I thougt I would do up a thread on adding vent visors just in the off chance it might help someone.

1. First and most obvious, get some visors. There are two types: 1. In-channel (slips in the window channel between outside side of glass and wx strip) 2. Exterior mounting (sticks on just above wx strip on the outside of the door) I chose the in-channel type for completely personal reasons (they will both perform well)
I found these on Amazon.com for $60 (signed up for their credit card and saved $30)
Here is what I got:
879
and here is the part number if you want to find another vendor besides amazon 194359 on package 194359R stamped on visor:
880
The kit comes with four little alcohol pads. Use these to clean where the tape attatches to the wx strip. One thing of note; test fit the parts before you peel the tape at all. This will allow you to see if it fits (hey mistakes happen, they could put the wrong part number on them) and it will give you an idea how to maneuver the vent visor once you really install it.
Now that you have "dry fit" these you are ready for the real thing. Peel back only enough red tape to allow it to be bent out so you can grab it when you install it. This will allow you to place the visor with out it getting stuck.
881
Once you have it in you can now peel away!
882
I had one piece break when peeling, I used pliers to carefully grab the end and went from there.

Once you get all the tape peeled you need to press on the back of the visor (inside the channel) to make it stick well. The 3M tape that is used is pressure sensitive so it is tacky when exposed but STICKS when PRESSED. You will need to roll up your windows and leave them up for 24hours (the window adds pressure to help the 3M tape to "set")

This was an easy install and if you aren't taking pics like I did It should only take about 15 min.

In-channel is the way to go! Good choice!!

Have the deflectors made any difference in wind noise? I thought I read a thread online a while ago by someone who'd added them and found the noise too much and took them back off.... Just curious. I'd like to add them myself.

The stick-on ones have more windnoise then then in-channel. My father-in-law has the in-channels on his F150 after he ripped the stick-on ones off due to wind noise...now he does not complain about it anymore...

That was/is me.

I don't have the in channel design. Mine stick above the window onto the door.
And.... THEY SUCK!

I posted some pics here somewhere but they look like Prince Charles' ears sticking out from the Jeep and have the aerodynamics of a brick wall.

They are coming off soon.

Ohh.. and they are official Mopar/Jeep accessories with the Jeep name on them and everything.
Rubbish!

I took the family out for a drive after I put these on and didn't notice anything. The radio was on at times and off at times. We drove at highway speeds and city street speeds. No noise was noticed on either road. Maybe this type of air deflector doesn't suffer from wind noise as bad?.?

Ohh.. you would notice THIS wind noise I get from the above window mounted ones.

I am trying to take the damn things off now.
Man what a mess. Hair dryer makes the glue stickier.
WD40 does nothing.
Goo gone barely does anything,
My fiingers are raw from rubbing.

Anyway sorry for the hijack, but I think I am gonna go a few days without then order the above mentioned deflectors.

So warning to all.
DO NOT GET THE 'ATTACH ABOVE WINDOW' AIR DEFLECTORS!
GET THE IN CHANNEL AS SHOWN ABOVE!!

Installed these on both my Patriot and Compass. Here in Florida, it's a great way to reduce interior heat by leaving the windows down just an inch without having to worry about rain.

Hi all,

I installed the Mopar part number side wind deflectors this past weekend. No issues.

I do like the cleaner look of the "in channel", but I wanted to stay with Jeep accessories.

I agree with Wade in that I can bring the four side windows down 1 1/2" and not worry about rain.

Old thread but i'll add my 2 cents . I have had the mopar ones that stick on outside for a few months. I really prefer the look on the back doors having the full length instead of only the openable window size. personal choice. however i have not found any noise issues. I have only driven up to about 140 kmh but have not noticed anymore noise than what i assume comes from driving a brick. (less noise than a cherokee though).

My dealer gave me Mopar over the window type with Jeep logo ... I have installed them, but I am taking them off. While they do work, I think in channel is better. So I shelled out some $$$ for these, I know I have paid too much, but I wanted the light smoked ones to improve the corner vision ... hopefully ...

New question on old thread: is the entire rear vent visor in the channel or is the rear-most part stuck onto the exterior black part of the window?
Thanks

The front one doesn't really make any difference in terms of noise... But the rear one does help. I have the same one installed but removed the front ones after a few days.

Thanks! That's the way I did it, I was starting to wonder if it was correct after seeing pix of it done entirely in the track.

I put the in-channel ones on a few months ago, right after I got the jeep, and I love them. They cut down on the wind noise when the window is cracked, especially great for a smoker like me! No more ashes blown back in.

I got mine from a website that specializes in just window/vent visors and I believe I paid $40-50 including shipping and they installed in a snap. I didn't want the kind that stuck to your actual door seals and I'm glad I paid a little extra. No issues at all with them coming loose, and I've had them on the highway at about 90 MPH. (shh!)

Yesterday I ordered the snap in ones from Weathertech. I will post a report after I get them installed.

I installed the Weathertech snap in side window visors. They look and work great.
