I just bought a red '07 Pat Sport. The dealer offers a paint protection package for $280 that gives a 5 year warranty against environmental damage. The product is called ProCoat.

I'm the type who waxes my car about 3 - 4 times a year and takes very good car of it. I don't know if this would provide any additional protection or not. This is my first NEW car, so I've never had this option in the past. Has anybody ever gotten this on a car and is it worth it? It doesn't too expensive if it's actually decent.

Never heard of it, but I've been told dealer paint protections are HUGE rip-offs. I'd just continue to wax your Pat every couple months.

I had paint protection on one of my previous cars and it does work, and lasts a long time- 5+ years. I decided not to get it with my Patriot as I enjoy waxing my vehicle. I don't believe the paint protection will provide any additional protection, but it might be a good choice for people who don't enjoy waxing. $280 does sound a bit steep though. I'm sure you could get it done cheaper and probably better by an independent applicator.

I don't understand how they prove it is doing anything the regular paint wouldn't.
So, you buy it and in 10 years, the paint looks great..OK.. how would you know it wouldn't look great without the 'environmental protection'?

My opinion, biggest scam since one hour martinizing... hooooo whata rip off THAT was....!

I did not get it, even though the guy who sold me the car said he would give it to me for $99 (his cost), when the man selling the paint protection was offering $299.

I honestly don't know anyone who has ever paid for the "extra protection".

But my thing is, they told me it protects against acid rain, and they said we have acid rain on the east cost. So if acid rain is such a problem, then why didn't they put the paint protection on the car and protect the car while it sits in their lot?

This guy also told me that its more for people who don't wax their cars ever, like me, but if I were to wax my car then I would not need it. So I said "I guess I will learn to wax my car"

this is the stuff we do. does work. dealer i used to work in cost dealer £30 for kit plus about 1 hour labour time to do it inc carpets and seats inside..retailed to customer at £175!!!!!!

It would be possible to send this to any of you guys if you want it. I can check exact price if you want but again around £35 plus p&p. don't need to be an expert to apply it.

The Verdict
...is a little mixed.

The cut/polish was done by hand and although there is some improvement, you can still see the scratches under bright sun (but you have to look) or lights.

I also had Diamonite Paint Protection (from Concept in the UK) applied and it is surprisingly glossy. I don't normally expect PP to be as good a glossy as wax, but this is. It is not quite up to the standard of a show-car glaze like Zaino but it is pretty darn good. Has drawn numerous comments in only two days.

Maintenance consists of a special wash (included) and a wipe over with a water-diluted preserver (also included). The applicator sponge (cotton encased) and microfibre cloth are included too. I'll know how easy it really is to clean this weekend - I was at Puke Park today and the car is quite dirty. I also had the 3M Amourfend applied by Steve's Signs, who came and did in at Equisè's premises while the car was there. I am very impressed - it is almost invisible and will apparently become even less detectable over the next week as it cures.

Costs:
Polish - $150
PP - $250, including aftercare stuff
3M - $609, front clam, roll bar bulhead, and inside doors (partial).


checked price of pack which gives dealer stuff to apply when clean and customer pack of polish cloth, shampoo,conserver, sponge and its only £37.50 if anyone wants one. loads in stock.

I meant it doesn't provide any extra protection that regular waxing won't provide. The product they used on my car put a clear layer over the paint and my paint looked nice and shiny without waxing after 5 years.

Wouldn't that clear layer be like a clear coat?

Personally I think paint protection programs are an honest waste of money. But it's good profit for the dealer so, like always, there are two sides to the story.

Paint when cared for properly should look like new for at least 6 years. All you have to do is keep it clean and wax the panels from time to time. I know I keep saying how good my Liberty looks after 5 years but pictures speak louder than words:

No paint protection / No undercoat or rust protection. Just good old fashioned labor to keep it clean

Sorry the picture is small, but if you look close you can see the ouline of the sky / my house near the front passenger headlight. Following that line, you can see almost the entire backside of my house in this picture along with a good portion on the side doors. It's all in the upkeep...

i figure paint technology is pretty advanced...there might be a little protection in going with an extra sealant but not much.

Thanks for all the replies. I've kinda heard that service was often a rip off but wanted some opinions. I kind like waxing my vehicles anyway. It gives a sense of accomplishment when my wife can use my door panel to do her hair :banana:

I get a similar hard-wax coat on my AMC Hornet once every 2 years. Keep the paint fresh-looking quite effectively.

I got it and my paint looks great but my car is always dusty whatever
