Howdy

New guy here checking in. My wife likes the Compass. I like the Patriot. I'm the one who will need a daily driver with better fuel eceonomy and when my TJ gets too big. (I know there is no such thing as too big...) Besides she has the Prius... 50mpg compared to my 17mpg (down hill w/ a tail wind:D ).... So yeah Patriot it is:)

Diesel. I want a diesel. I don't know why jeeps (and I don't include Liberty) don't have an optional diesel. Diesel is slow, noisy and dirty? Not anymore. Heck an Audi diesel just won Le Mans. If you have ever driven a Jeep, you don't care about noise. Hopefully with all these new low-sulfur regulations the dirty part will be fixed too. All that aside, I want a diesel and 45mpg.

Why 2012? My TJ is still running strong. I want to wait for all the bugs to be worked out. And I want to keep my 11 year gap between Jeeps.

That said. 2012 Jeep Patriot Sport FDII DIESEL!!!

Welcome to the forum.

Why don't you include the Liberty as a Jeep?

i think he means that he doesn't include the liberty in the diesel stuff because the diesel liberty is already made.

Well actually both.

Personally, I don't really care for the Liberty. By itself not a bad vehicle but it was/is a poor replacement for the Cherokee. After all the Liberty is still called Cherokee in foreign markets. Its one of the beefs I have with DC. Another one would be, torx bits and all the other tools I have in my 'WTF Chrysler tool bag'. :D

And the diesel thing... Yes, the Liberty has a diesel option. However its only 48 state and doesn't meet the new diesel emissions standards. I know the CRD Libby has done well. I'll give DC some credit that the Libby was a good platform to offer a diesel. Considering its more family/highway oriented. With gas prices going up and being the only vehicle in its class with a diesel its no surprise sales increased.

I don't love the Liberty. I don't hate it. I'll say the Compass/Patriot will make it really hard for DC to keep the Liberty in production.;)

There are 3 problems with diesel in the US market. 1 is history, GM scared a lot of buyers off diesel for good with the crappy Olds back in the day. That killed off interest in automotive diesel for a long time. 2 is sulfur content in our fuel, this has kept the best engines away for a few years now, and is just now being corrected. 3 is emissions, now that we finally have the right fuel they have raised the emissions standards for diesel so high that most manufcaturers are playing catch up. I think just about everyone, even VW, will be out of the diesel market for 07 until they upgrade the emissions.
