: Subs in the liftgate?

I'm picking up my patriot in the next couple days and am itching to do an audio install in it...
I've been thinking up some crazy ideas and thought maybe I could put a couple 6 inch subs in the liftgate where the flip-down spkrs would normally go
Do you think approx 15-17 lbs weight from the subs/fiberglass enclosure would be too much for the liftgate to open properly?

As well, how hard is it to get the liftgate disassembled from the Jeep? I haven't been able to take a close look at the Patriot yet.

Hi gabi. Be very careful when adding weight to the liftgate. I am not sure, since I am slacking at work at the moment, if the liftgate utilizes a pneumatic shock absorber looking thing to assist the liftgate. If it does, the pressure it has is based on the stock weight of the liftgate. If you make it much heavier, the pneumatic assist may not work well and the liftgate will slowly descend on you.

Next is environment. If you live in a four season climate, the pneumatic assist is affected by temperature. The colder it is, the harder the assist has to work. Add weight and cold temperature and you may be very inconvenienced by having to prop the liftgate open.
