I bought a 2009 daily rental about 1.5 month ago, (31,000km) and I now have 33,000km on it. Just YEsterday the CHANGE OIL started to flash across the odometer screen. The dealership i bought it from said that i didnt need a service call till december. How do i Know if i need an oil change? And where is the best place to go for one? I was quoted at Dealership on upperjames hamilton, for $59.95 (includes, oil+filter+inspection+ tire rotation) is this a rip off or good? should i go to canadian tire or stick with the dealership? thanks!

Personally I get mine changed whenever the warning comes on to do it. In the US that would be a good deal. I am not sure what the conversion rate is atm...

The Canadian dealerships call that the Peace of Mind service. Normally every 10,000kms if you take it to them. Its a good deal considering they change your oil/filter, top off all fluids (coolant, washer fluid, brake fluid, and even the CVT tranny fluid), and rotate your wheels/tires for you. And if your dealership is really good, they'll even wash your car with that service. Good deal if you don't want to get dirty.

UPdate- i called the dealership today they said to disregard and reset the oil change light. Next service is 3000 to go or december 09 whichever comes close. Just seems weird how the light would come on for no reason?

OK so the idiot light comes on, are you saying that you KNOW the oil was changed when you bought it at 31K and it is now 33K, if so it could be as simple as they did not reset the oil change indicator (pump accelerator pedal three times in ten seconds with ignition in ON position)

whenever you buy a used car, you should just change the oil right away. you never know what they did, or when they did it. it cost like $14 to change the oil using conventional oil. you should do it yourself, there are instructions in the owners manual. its basically 1 bolt to drain oil, and removal of filter, reinstall new filter. retighten bolt, pour new oil in. taking your time, it would take less than 20 minutes. if you have done it alot of times, you can do it in less than 10 minutes. since the jeep has decent ground clearance, you dont have to use a jack to lift the car or nothing, just get under the front of the car, and you can see where the drain bolt and filter is. you dont have to go to the dealership to reset your oil light, you can do it yourself. there are instructions in the owners manual also.
