: EXHAUST TIP FOR THE PAT --- I DON'T THINK SO!

It's official---those of you contemplating adding an aftermarket exhaust tip for the Pat (maybe I'm the only one!) can say goodbye to that notion. After visiting 2 muffler/exhaust shops, I was informed that because of the Pat's muffler design and the location of the existing outlet, it is virtually impossible to add a exhaust tip extension simply because there is no room to work with.

Needless to say, I was quite saddened after leaving the shop w/my recently acquired shiny Ractive stainless steel tip in my hand. Because of the 20% restocking charge, I'll just keep the tip until a differently designed (read: smaller) aftermarket replacement muffler becomes available that will allow the tip to be integrated. I've always had a 'blingey' exhaust tip on every vehicle I've owned so this will be an adjustment for me. I'll just have to be patient.

I've noticed that the European Patriots have an exhaust tip that exits horizontally straight out (versus the N. American Pats which point downwards) which would easily facilitate the addition. The Euro Pats also have the cool rear roof center-mounted attenna -- not fair!

P.S. -- just bought my can of 1200F black paint ready to paint that eyesore (the muffler) -- Chrysler should make this one of their recalls (to have the dealer paint the muffler that is!) ...:blah:

Maybe an aftermarket Muffler will come out with a different outlet? But you may have to wait a long time before the muffler goes bad..

I happen to like the Silver muffler. It matches the Silver bumper, and doesn't clash with the Marine blue. (I think silver clashes too much with some of the other Colors, like black. What color is yours?

Just looked at a Euro-Pat now. The rear muffler is actually black too. And as you said, the outlet goes straight out - just begging to be modified. :smiley_thumbs_up:

The small centerplaced antenna is a bit more sexy than those crazy radiotowers on the US Pats fenders.

When I get mine next week or so, Ill take some photos and show it to those who doesnt know what we`re talking about. ;)

If you want to buy an aftermarket muffler, remember that the rear muffler is the only muffler. Its really big and probably kills a lot of sound - you may end up with a noisy exhaust note. (Ok, just realized that was the diesel version, dont know what the petrol muffler looks like) :icon_rolleyes:

It's gonna be pretty hard to find a tip that fits a curved tip like that.

Khaki... You're quite right... we either don't mind or like the silver, or we hate it. I just happen to fall into the latter group. I think the black imparts a much cleaner look to Pat's rear end. I just know that I dig the 'after' pics of members who have painted their mufflers. Like the Rolling Stones song goes -- 'Paint It Black'.

The plan was to cut off the existing tip close to the outlet and then weld on a short extension that would, after a short bend, exit straight out, making installation then a breeze. Obviously, the muffler experts did not agree w/my plan...:(

I don't blame them- It's just too high up on the muffler. Just get a catback exhaust. That would look good.

Use a high quality engine headers paint. I used flat black rated to withstand 1500 F. The rear of my khaki '08 looks great now ...and I sleep better at night.
