I recently read a review (no, I'm not obsessed :icon_rolleyes:) that seemed to say Freedom Drive is standard for all 08 Patriots. Is this true and if so what exactly is Freedom Drive?
Thanks!

Maybe they meant Freedom Drive I is standard on 4x4's with Freedom II as an option...most "reviewers" have no idea what they are talking about and just regurgitate corporate jargon to get an article.

FDII is just extra features of that 4x4,
low ratio, skid plates, alternator, etc..
FDI&II just cool names for AWD and 4x4

My Patriot has Freedom Drive I. It's part time 2 wheel drive (front) and has the option to turn it on permanent 4x4. When in normal drive FDI acts as a safety system that sends power to individual wheels when needed

prgault,
Click on the Knowledge Base thread then on General Patriot (discussion?) then on Freedom I Vs. Freedom II. This will give you an overview of the differences. You could also use the forum's search function. I've FDII. It comes w/ the CVT2L trans. (has a low 19:1 ratio), Skid plates (for engine, trans, fuel tank and fuel pump), tow hooks (2 front, 1 rear), larger 17" tires/wheels, 1in. additional ground clearance, oil cooler, larger alternator, and full size spare tire. Front wheel drive only Pats do not have either Freedom Drive system.

So on any 2008 4x4 Patriot you get full-time 4x4 with the option of locking the center differential? Is this correct?

I think Terasec nailed it with: FDI&II just cool names for AWD and 4x4
