and from another source: (http://www.rrstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061004/BUSINESS06/110030094)

...The Compass and Caliber sales totals have been hampered by frequent shutdowns in the plant’s fully automated body shop caused by faulty software. The shutdowns forced the company to push back production launch of the Jeep Patriot from the third quarter to sometime in the fourth quarter. Steven Landry, vice president of sales and field operations, said it’s unlikely the Patriot will make it to dealers until sometime in the first quarter of 2007...

Maybe they'll take the extra time to tweak a few things on the design in terms of adding to capabilities........might as well, since they have 3 months of downtime.

Where are you coming up with 3 months of downtime?

I can tell you with 100% accuracy that the plant will not be down for 3 months. At least not within the next several years. I'm looking forward to pumping out some Patriots when it launches. Much more attractive than the Caliber or Compass, in my opinion.

Are they working on the Patriots right now?....it seems like you have an inside track. I assumed since they won't be out until 2007 that they haven't begun building them yet.

Yes they are and yes I do. ;)

Refer to the "Job 1" thread.

are you confirming that they are actually in production, meaning that they are coming off the line ready to be sold?

and if so, why wait till the first quarter of next year if there are already vehicles being made ready to sell?

Personally, I am glad the Compass was the first vehicle released. Maybe the Patriot will benefit by quality issues being fixed BEFORE it is released to the public. I think it is better to wait a couple/several months to have a vehicle where some of the kinks are worked out ahead of time.

If the Patriot was the first vehicle released, you would be reading all kinds of negative comments on this and every other board about the vehicle's lack of quality. Not only that, the media would be having a field day and Jeep would be getting another "black eye".

Good point. I agree. In the long run, no one will really remember that it took an extra 3 or 6 months to get out the door and on the road. They will remember quality though. If they were problematic right off, the sales will never take off. First impressions are lasting impressions. Hard to wait as it may be, it'll be worth it.

Have not even seen one back for so much as an oil change yet. Most people seem happy enough, once they get used to the CVT.

Just visited the dealer for a Cherokee replacement part and inquired about Patriot deliveries. The parts person said that they were not expecting the Patriot until March. Can anybody corroborate that info?

I received a call on Saturday from my local dealer about not expecting any until Late Feb (according to his div rep, and were 3 hours from the plant)

Some information from an Allpar post by redriderbob:

2007 Dodge Caliber SRT-4:

The problem w/ the launch of the Caliber SRT-4, is Chrysler was trying to focus on finally launching the Jeep Patriot. What happened, was because of the new flexable assembly lines is that because of the robots used at the Belvidere plant.

http://cgmedia.daimlerchrysler.com/dcxms/assets/libraryImages/BVAP2__mid.jpg
Some of the Belvidere Robots:

They have to write up a computer program for the robots to help assemble each car that goes down the line. If you guys remember the problems they were having w/ the line earlier in Caliber's production launch and they had to fix it and cause a ten week delay in the ordering process. Well apparently they had to spend the time fixing that instead of the getting the Patroit computer program started.

2007 Jeep Patriot Limited 4X4:

Thus explains the late launch of the Patriot, which was suppose to debut in November but now will be launched in Janurary. Whats that mean for Caliber SRT-4, it looks like a launch date of March or April and they might make a real limited run for 2007 model year, and launch the 2008 models shortly after! I was told about that from a guy who helped installed the line for Belvidere, and a district manager for Mopar Divison's Great Lakes Department.

Hmmm and a 2.4L Turbo 300hp engine sitting around. I think that would fit nicely in a Patriot.

I'm now hearing from my friend that works at the a parts department of a jeep dealer that it won't be out until February or March. So for now, I have it down to either getting a dodge Nitro or the Grand Cherokee Laredo package, which he says is a great package and bargain. I'm going to try to head up there next week to test drive the grand and compass.
