Does anyone have the navigation option REC in their compass? I am unclear whether the system mounts in the dashboard or on top of the dashboard. I have seen a picture somewhere of a dash-top system, but do not know that this is the only available style and seem to remember an in-dash picture from somewhere. Jeep's website says late availability, but if you happen to have one, or know more about it, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Available in-dash in place of standard cd player/changer.

I have not seen one in a Compass or a Caliber yet, but this is the same unit thats in the Grand Cherokee and Commander. The REC is a radio w/nav unit built in, 6 disc CD player with a seperate DVD player for the Navigation software disc at the bottom. The DVD player is only for the nav disc, it will not play DVDs.

There's 2. An In Dash model that is bundled with the 6 Disc CD Player (you lose the MP3 Jack with this deck) and a NAVUS On Dash Model - I think your dealer has to install this one for you as I don't think it's available from the factory.

in dash system replaces your radio and costs about $2000,
On dash Nav system sits on your dash and costs $800 or so,
forgot exact $$$$.
i didnt go with either,
1) because of price
2) didnt like the unit sitting on the dash

My 09 Patriot has the mygig, it's technically called the "uConnect GPS". I love it. 30G hard drive wheres some earlier ones had 20G.

ive got the nav w/ 6disc for sale it came out of my patriot but feel certain it can work in the compass.. i saw where some1 said it would be 2000 for the indash, im selling mine for 600 or ill work with u if your interested

I'm assuming what you are selling is the REC unit? If so, it will definitely work in the Compass. I have a 2007 Compass with that unit installed from the factory, there's even a bezel available for it.

how do you like your Kenwood DNX 5120 w/ Nav.? what was so bad with the original nav system?

nothing was bad with the original, i like it just fine i actually miss the 6 disc changer, but i was looking to get an ipod integration and then when i found it it was discontinued and things like that i got pissed off and wanted somethin i could use to control my ipod showing the text and everything through the cd player, then i just figured why not, so i went ahead and just got me a new play toy basically nothin wrong at all with the original nav just something i wanted to do..

as for the kenwood i love it, touch screen, good nav, ipod integration, dvd, all the gadgets and it makes my subs louder also, i lot of controls for it just wish it would have came with a stinkin remote, gotta order that separate..

Interesting... my compass came with the basic single cd player audio system.... BUT i do have to say the sound is pretty impressive for a basic package..... i wonder if i replaced it with the kenwood if it would sound the same as the stock system. I've seen people who upgraded their head units and then have to spend MORE money because they needed to buy amps and more speakers sub woofer etc etc.

well ive already got subs and an amp, it really just improved the quality making everything more crisp and the subs did hit a lil harder, there are many controls on the kenwood like controlling or x'over loads and stuff.. ive never heard of people having to spend more just for upgrading the head unit.. or did they do it to get the better sounds?

well i have an example of a friend of mine who had a 2001 mustang gt with the premium sound system. he replaced the stock system for an aftermarket one. he completely lost all of his bass.... i'm starting to wonder if they wired it wrong or they didnt wire it into the stock amps that came with the car. He basically dumped another $1000 into the car on top of the head unit.

i have the premium sound and at first they didnt wire the factory amp then realized he made a mistake and did it, to me that sounds like some type of wiring issue that they did, no reason you should lose base over a new head unit i would look a little more into that..

Just a couple of things. Firstly I have to agree, the sound improved in my jeep dramatically when I changed my head unit for a pioneer nav unit. I wasn't too impressed with the stock sound even though it was the BA premium. I was going to change out the speakers as well but after fitting the pioneer, no need. better bass and sharper highs. Secondly,Xuscballx, why do you want a remote? do you drive from the back seat? :)

nah, just to have to say i have it.. and sometimes i do get tired of reaching up and flipping song after song, i opted not to get the steering wheel controls mod to go with the new head unit to save me $100 bux... but sometimes wish i would have now..

lol you guys are kill me, now i have to get it... i've started to order everything but the head unit... once everything comes in, i'll order the headunit.

lol have fun with it, its a fun and nice upgrade..
