Hey All,

If you order the BA 9 speaker set up, which head unit comes with it?
The nav, 6 cd, single cd etc...?
Do you have a choice of which one you want, is there a standard one, or is it a special BA ONLY head unit.

Thanks,

Jim

You pick the head unit, standard, the RAQ 6disk MP3 unit, or the REC Navigation unit. (Those are the domestic North America units) If you are in a BUX export country, you have the same options, they just get different sales codes.

Thanks!

I am trying to figure out if there are preamp outs of any of the radio for the BA amp. But according to the pin charts (radio (http://www.nearlynormal.biz/jeep/jeep_media/installation/Radio%20Pin%20Charts%20and%20Locations.pdf), amp (http://www.nearlynormal.biz/jeep/jeep_media/installation/Radio%20Amp%2014%20&%2020%20Pin%20Charts%20&%20locations.pdf)), I don't see any.

That means a $500 upgrade system is receiving line level signal into the amplifier.
That's kinda dodgy.

Its $795 now for the 08' because it now comes with leather wrapped steering, and wheel mounted audio controls... I have the new BA system, with the stock (one disk) radio and I'm in love with it... I wouldn't trade it for the stock system any day... the reason I got the one disk radio was because I use my Ipod for my music... and take it everywhere. I think the sound is great, and I know people with systems three times as expensive and they don't sound as good.

Hey there W.A.R.

I mean no disrespect to the BA setup and it's sound. If I did not have the pin charts I would not have ever been the wiser.

It's just that using line level signal into amplifiers is not the optimum way to go and is usually used as a last resort. I was just suprised a setup of that cost would not use PreAmps.

Cheers,
Jim

I would like to ask "NoneRequired" about the 6disk MP3 unit.
Does this only play MP3 CDs or does it have an external input for MP3 players/ipods.
I have read different things in different places and I noticed that "NoneRequired" has this unit installed...

I test drove a Patriot with the 6 CD/MP3 changer, and it doesn't have an external iPod jack, which I find reeeeeally stupid. So I stuck with the standard radio with Boston Acoustics and it's great. I believe the MP3 functionality on the 6 CD changer is that it allows you to play MP3 CDs, as well as normal CDs.

Do you happen to know what the difference is? (not important, just curious)

A 'normal cd' is an audio cd like you buy in the store or create using software. The original music files, whether they be mp3, wav, wma, flac, shn etc are converted to an industry standard .cda format and placed on the disk for cd players to read.
Max length is 80 minutes of music, regardless of original file size and type.

A 'mp3 disk' is a computer data disk with mp3's stored on them. They have not been converted to .cda they just are being mp3s stored on the disk. This allows up to 700mb of mp3's to be stored which equals a LOT more than 80 mins worth.

The downside to mp3 disks is usually the playing order is a little screwy and shuttling thru them can be whack also since the are usually sorted by their id3 tags.

Another downside is the audio quality of an mp3 disk can vary from song to song whereas an audio cd creating program will usually normalize the volume to make all songs the same to the ear.

The RAQ radio plays MP3 CDs. It does not have an aux. input on the front like the base radio does. It does however, have spare inputs in the back. The Sirius goes in the back, and there is an input for the vehicle entertainment system. If you don't have the VES, and unless you buy it from Mopar you do not, you can use the VES input to input audio from outboard sources. There are several different companies that make an adapter kit that is plug-and-play to do this.
