Hello

Seems whenever I get moving from a dead stop the first thing that happens is the steering wheel pulls a little to the right. I have to re-straighten the car. Is this torque steer? I had read that it's normally only a problem on about 200+ hp cars w/ FWD, and then, usually pulls to the left and not the right.

Just wondering, since will be taking it in for it's first oil change soon if I should ask them to check it out.

Yuppers, that's the torque steer. It's b/c the engine's mounted sideways, thereby making the steering arm longer on side. I also notice it when I really get on it in the upper end of the powerband. I wouldn't think the dealer can do anything to help it. ...but I'd love it if they could, cause it drives me nuts!

I haven't noticed yet.............. guess because I'm too busy enjoying it.

Hey, this is the 3rd vehicle but it gets driven more than the others... I also grew up in a body shop and wrenchin' with my dad. My guess is most people won't notice. If ya'll havent, then enjoy it. ....might also be more noticeable to me b/c of the manual tranny.

I've noticed it a bit but I've driven so many front-drivers over the years that I don't really pay attention to a little bit o' torque steer.

Oh well, looks like it's here to stay then. It isn't that bad actually.. would prefer it not to be there, but now that it is I'll live with it.

I have endured torque steer for my past 3 vehicles. Until I saw this thread, I had basically cast it aside as an artifact of sideways mounted 4-bangers. I am so used to it, I just reacted appropriately when starting off. I think you will just get used to it.

The torque steer comes from unequal length front driveshafts (half shafts)...

Short stubby shafts twist less

Long (same diameter) shafts twist more

Not the same as "bump steer" or "steering kickback"
