I'd be interested to know how many of us 06/07 buyers have already, or are thinking of buying into the lifetime powertrain warranty . :(

Our patriot hopefully is a keeper so we considered it but ultimately decided against it for two reasons (not necessarily stellar reasons, mind you)...
1) did not have any extra $$ right now
2) we have the 5speed manual

If we had the CVT, I think we would have gone for it...

How much are they asking? I am interested.

Is it true that to get the LPW buy-in you first have to purchase the Chrysler extended warranty?

Not what I was told. The LPW for $750 (w/ $100 deductible) $900 (w/o) is the extended warranty.

Jeep just replied to an e-mail I sent them asking if I could buy into a LPW on my 07 riot purchased in April. It took them four paragraphs to say no.

Oh well...

I'd check with your dealership to see what they say.

Thank you for contacting the Jeep Customer Assistance Center regarding
the lifetime powertrain warranty.

Thank you for your recent purchase. We are concerned that you feel
penalized for buying your vehicle when you did. Your purchase
represents an outstanding value that will provide many years of driving
satisfaction.

We regret that your purchase does not qualify for the Lifetime
Powertrain Warranty, but appreciate having the opportunity to review the
matter with you. We understand you want to take advantage of the best
deal possible when purchasing a new vehicle and you most likely received
the best possible warranty on the date of your purchase.

Our special sales programs are intended to create goodwill with the
buying public and to provide purchasers with an even better value for
their dollar in a specified timeframe. Inevitably, however, some
customers feel penalized when they are unable to qualify within the
guidelines of the program. We regret you were unable to participate in
the program.

Although we are unable to retroactively offer the Lifetime Powertrain
Warranty, you may be eligible for our lifetime powertrain service
contract. Please consult your selling dealership for further details
regarding this Service Contract.

Although a more favorable response could not be provided, we appreciate
your sharing your concern with us.

Also, our records indicate that the following recall campaign have not
been performed by an authorized Chrysler Motors dealer.

Recall Campaign #G18 - DAYLIGHT RUNNING LAMPS

Since we can't always confirm that the needed service has been
performed, we ask that you contact your local authorized Jeep dealer to
make arrangements for an inspection and, if necessary, corrective action
at no charge to you.

The plan is called Lifetime Powertrain Care and is the Chrysler Service Contract they are talking about in their email. It is available at a 50% discount until the end of Sept. ($750 or $900 w/o deductible).
You can buy it on the web at chryslerwarrantys.com -never mind the spelling!
Good luck!

Just to clarify, it is not a direct buy-in into their new vehicle lifetime powertrain warranty, but a discounted offer of a similar "service contract" to 06 and 07 owners. That's how I understand the deal.

Disregard what they said in the email......06' and 07' can be covered if you buy it. Go to your dealership or call your dealership and talk to someone there about the cost of purchasing it. It'll be worth the money.

Dealer couldn't help me with this, they said it doesn't exist. I went to www.chryslerwarrantys.com (operated by Topor Dodge in MA) did a few clicks, answered some questions, and purchased the LPXN for $900.

I just got an email response from them:

{My Name}, your Chrysler Warranty application has been processed.

Right this moment, your coverage is accessible to every Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealer in the country. We are mailing proof of purchase to you. You should receive it in the next few days. This is just for your records. There is nothing further for you to do.

DaimlerChrysler will be mailing a warranty kit to you within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you very much for your business and don't forget to tell your friends about us.

If you ever need us, send us an email at support@chryslerwarrantys.com or give us a call at 1-888-918-9840.

Yeah, I got a little confused by their website, so I called them - very nice real person answered. No, she could not show me the exact contract language (ok, I admit, I'm a lawyer), could not answer if the 5 year inspections were free (another part of the website says yes), but promised that if I got the contract and did not like it the deal was voidable within 60 days. So I bought it, from chryslerwarraties.com primarily because the lady on the phone came off as honest and nice. 740 for a 100 deductible lifetime powertrain warranty, I often run vehicles to 200k miles, sounds too good to pass up.
