: YES or Leather

If I buy a Patriot that will be parked outside all of the time, it will be exposed to brutal winter nights and blazing Midwest summer days. I am concerned that leather will not hold up in the long run. The YES fabric seems to be advertised as indestructible.

Question for those of you with YES: do you like it? Is it truly maintenance-free?

I would have to go with a Sport rather than a Limited to get it. Most of what I really want is available as an option or package in the Sport, but I do not think I can get the lumbar support in the Sport. Is this correct?

to tell whether the YES holds up,
only 200 miles on my pat,
but personally Am not a fan of leather,
Hot in the summer,
cold in winters,
and depending on clothes, may not grip you to hold you in your seat,

Prefer fabric over leather,
and hopefully YES will perform as advertised, i live out my car, and like to to know some of the stains should be taken care of.

Im a leather guy through and through... I think it looks 100X nicer and I've really grown accustom to the feel. So long as you take care of it properly, it is just as resiliant as any other surface.

The yes fabric is really nice and looks much better then regular fabric, its is also 2 toned and I prefer it to the leather, especially with 2 kids!

Ciao!

I had wanted vinyl which was available on the 07' 26E package, now that I have an 08' and now has YES as standard I'm much happier with the switch. The big thing is the stain resistances. I'm hoping it's true cause we have a 5 year old niece and my friend who will be having a baby soon and then our two dogs and future kids. With leather I think if you take care of the leather it shall last you the lifetime of the Jeep. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've seen leather in vehicles that look pretty good for the age.

I never was a leather guy. Had 2 cars with nice leather and did not like it for pretty much the reasons stated.

But I DO like the Patriot's leather seats. Probably because it's not all leather, and the parts that are leather are certainly a different 'type' of leather.

The seats aren't uber-cushy baby bottom soft, wrinkly warm leather like top notch luxo cars. And I think this works to their advantage. It makes them stiffer with more support. MUCH easier to clean. (The fact that the manual reccomends using ordinary Mopar Total Care on the whole seat and NOT leather conditioner tells you something). Also whatever the non-leather material is, does not have the 'sweat and slide' properties of real leather.

So don't really think of the Patriot's leather as the plushy, fragile pillow seats of luxury cars that you have to baby and use a dozen protecterants on. Think of it along the same lines of the Patriot itself. Rugged and durable.

Cheers,
Jim

edit: I am attempting to point to only the lighter colored part of the seat, which are the leather portions.

I have the YES and like them. I spilled some red punch on the seats, it sat in for about 2 weeks until I finally decided to try to clean it. I used a wet rag and a dab of liquid hand soap and it came right out. Totally surprised me, but in a good way of course.

Regarding the YES seats. My friend offered to "scotch gaurd" them for me for free. But on the yess essentials website:http://www.yesessentials.com They state: " Don’t waste money using spray-on stain repellants and other performance enhancers – they aren’t necessary and may adversely affect the YES Essentials performance and will void your limited warranty. "

I guess I'll skip the scoth gaurd and hope they perform as well as claimed.

Why in the world would you leave red punch in the seats of a brand new car for 2 weeks?

Tested my YES seats (inadvertently) with spilled coffee while I was driving. I my case I was able to clean it within a few minutes - used a towel and water and the stain came right out.

I love the YES seats. I haven't had any accidents to test (thankfully) but I've been in the car nice and stinky/sweaty after long mountain bike rides and they haven't absorbed any nastiness.

Never been a fan of leather. Blech.

Laziness, and I assumed I'd need a speciality cleaner until I found the tag that was on the seats when I bought the car stating soap and water would work...so I tried it and it worked.

No, no, no! The correct answer is: Because you can!!!

Keep in mind the leather seats aren't 100% leather. The center inserts are vinyl.

The YES is cool. I had leather in the past, YES is comfortable and 'maintenance' free. Go for it!

Leather when taken care of properly will last a long time. (even if you abuse it it will last a long time depending on the quality of the leather)

I use a Leather Conditioner & Cleaner by Turtle Wax. Cost about $7.00 for a pump spray bottle. Really works great at protecting the leather and keeping it soft and plyable. I use it actually more in the winter becaue of the heated seats. I am assuming they will dry out the leather and adding conditioner will re-apply moisture back into the leather.

NEVER use Armor All...EVER! It will dry out your leather and dashbords in the long run. ( This is what Detail Specialist tell me anyways...I believe them too) Find a good conditioner/cleaner. Turtle Wax is what I use but I am sure there are other products or even better ones out there.

Wow really???? I have used armorall... guess I will get the stuff you use.

I LOVE my leather seats!! I've never had leather before, but I knew I had to have it, and thank god I did... went on a drive with my Pomeranian in the back and she got car sick and big mess in the back seat, if that was cloth, it would've been hell to get out, now it looks like new again.

I have seen many leather seats get ugly over time, but these ones are different and firmer so I'm hoping they'll hold up, although I did notice a tiny rip in mine already, no idea how, maybe a jean pocket button or something scratched it?? :( You really have to look close to see it, but still, I hope they're durable.

I didn't like the colours of the cloth they offered, I wish they were nicer colours like the leather, I really like the contrast between the light and dark grey.

Fellow parents of "Furry Friends" ~ which is easier to clean: the YES or leather?
:D

No idea on the YES...

But having had cloth seats with one dog in the past...and now having leather seats with two dogs....I'd have to say that leather is easier. Fur and mud wipe right off. And with Sadie riding to work with me every day, that is very important. (It was a nightmare getting all the fur out of the station wagon before selling it!!)

Bearing in mind, of course, that the Pat isn't completely leather seats.

And I'll be keeping the pups confined to the very back in the new ride...

What about claws on the leather? Any problems with that?

One of them...and I'm not naming names, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the one that rides in my car daily...has put a small rip in the leather of the Buick. I need to pick up a repair kit for that before we sell it.

Hence...my pups will be riding in the very back of the Heep.

Yes..our Corgi did a near tear on the rear seats of the Park Avenue. (Very Soft Leather) He dosn't have claws...he has TALONS...hehe!

We try to keep him on the floor as much as possible. Or put a beach towel on the seats.

Awww! I love Corgis!

Well, we have leather seats in the Accord and haven't had any problems with our pups so we'll keep our paws crossed when we get our Riot. :p

We have the YES seats. My wife spilled coffee on the passenger seat in the first week we had it (*%&$ Starbucks...) it sat for maybe 2 min. while we ran in circles trying to find something to clean it up with. We got some napkins from a friends truck and it came right up, no water needed it beaded up and floated on the material until we got to it.

My dog is only 5 lbs, but if I had a heavier dog, I would definitely worry about the claws on leather!! In that case, the yes would be better or putting something down on the seat for the dog to sit on.

Also having a Pomeranian with a ton of fur, I'm glad I got the leather :) A Swiffer duster picks it all up!

Ive tested the YES material with coffee spills a few times now over the past few months - because I'm apparently a "Spaz". Each time the coffee came out by using a damp cloth, then a dry one (even after the coffee soaked into the fabric). So it's been good that way.

I don't own any pets, so can't comment on fur/claw issues

I like the yes fabric. I hope it lives up to the dealers claims of being stain and odor proof. At 1000 miles I still haven't had a spill yet. Leather seats in New Mexico are hot and sticky in summer. I prefer fabric in hot weather.

I was apprehensive about the leather, I absolutely hate that pillow-soft stuff that comes in some cars. I have a long drive to and from work, and prefer not to feel as if I'm in bed, or floating on a cloud. But I sat in the seats, and they're nice and firm. I thought they were very comfortable, and thought they were appropriate for the Jeep. I've given my approval to the leather seats.

Call me crazy, but I’m loving my vinyl seats…. easy to clean(though, i havent spilled much in my one week), cool in the summer, more comfortable than the leather seat in my old car.

Leather seats came with my Pat. I have never had leather seats before. At only 3300 kms (about 60 hours), I am preferring the leather over the fabric because the leather seems far less *bum-numbing* than the fabric I am used to. I have no idea how they will stand up to time and the environment. I guess I will find out.

I love my leather seats! I really didn't have any issue with them over the summer, but now that it's cold outside the seat warmers really have come in handy, not to mention kick in really quickly (within 2 minutes).

I had leather seats in my previous Jeep and was hellbent on getting them on the new one. Testdrove them, thought again and ordered the YES seats. Haven't been disappointed.
