Is the Patriot's competition really coming from India?
MUMBAI, India — Mahindra & Mahindra, the SUV specialist, is mulling an entry into the United States in 2007, making it the first Indian automaker to attempt such a foray.
According to a report in AutoWeek, the company is quietly setting up a network of about 200 dealers to sell an unspecified utility vehicle.
Mahindra was established after World War II to sell surplus Willys Jeeps in India. Since then, it has branched into commercial and agricultural vehicles and in recent years has partnered in India with Ford Motor Company.
Mahindra currently sells tractors under its own brand in the United States.
The company sells a range of utility vehicles in India and some export markets, including such models as the Bolero and the Scorpio. It is preparing to launch a new "lifestyle" vehicle called the Ingenu that will be slotted below the Scorpio in size and price.source (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=116391)
