8-lane bridge collapse into river at peak of rush hour... (http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_213191448.html)

When I saw the photos of that school bus that was on the bridge when it collapsed ... my heart sank.

The bus the had 60 children inside landed in a way that did not toss the children out of the bus. People were able to help the kids out of the bus through the back door.

Early estimates are of +50 cars submerged in the river.

Incredibly, and sadly, seven have lost their lives. For the bridge to collapse at the peak of rush hour and the number be that low is incredible.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to them their friends and families.

This is sad news. I hope the count stays low.

Its a bummer that such a highly used bridge could have passed inspections if it got to the point of collapse. Lets hope this can be a wake up call to safety of bridges!

OMG, that is awful! Thank god people were there (and willing) to help.

Its in a state where I don't have any "civil" friends, but will keep an ear out. I am very curious to see what the engineering report has to say.

I live a few miles from that bridge, and I drive (drove now, I suppose) on it quite frequently.

There are many cars submerged in the river. Many of those cars still have bodies in them.

Unfortunately the death toll is going to rise. :(

It's somewhat amazing this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. Working in the construction industry, I'm well aware of the major impact that can be made by seemingly minor circumstances.

A few years ago in Atlantic City a couple of contruction workers were killed in a parking garage collapse cause by not allowing concrete to cure just ONE more day. I'm curious to see what the issue is here.

This is definately very sad and horrible news. I seen locally that Oregon and Washington are going to go and look over the bridges. Which right now can't find that article. :(
