296,875 miles on my 98 XJ. Still used as my daily driver for nearly 100 miles per day getting to and from work.

What about your Jeep?

189,895 miles on my 93 XJ, in near immaculate condition too. Love the hell out of it, just wish it was 4wd and got better than 10mpg city. It'll be a sad day if I trade it in on Cash for Clunkers. :(

the increase in quality (over the 80's) of many vehicles manufactured in the 90's is shown today in how many are still running such as the above mentioned Jeep XJ. it seems that when 2000 rolled around, the quality of vehicles took a tumble which is seen in the 7th generation Civic transmission and suspension issues, Jeep WJ and KJ transmissions, and the early 2000's (2001-2004) Chevy Silverado's chronic brake, transmission, and suspension issues. for some odd reason, the turn of the century sparked a whole bunch of transmission problems across the board of many manufacturers. i'm not sure why, but looking back it does seem like a trend.

while i am a big support of VA/VE initiatives (Value Analysis/Value Engineering), the quality of automobiles in the early 2000's is representative of when trimming fat in the form of cost cutting is taken too far and things are made in a cheap fashion. it's hard to be loyal to one particular manufacturer when their quality level is a roller coaster ride. the only manufacturer that has had a company historical constant level (or increase) in quality has been Subaru.

recently i think all manufacturers have made great strides in quality :smiley_thumbs_up:

Without Japanese competition gaining a foothold of the US auto market in the late 1970s/1980s, we all would still be driving the Chevy Vega and Ford Pinto, 10th generation.

As bad as quality appears today, it is still superior to the 1970s/1980s US auto market.

I prefer the simple cars from the 70's and 80's. I'm in the process of building a high mileage AMC SX4. If I can hit the same mileage as the Patriot, (which some have done) the SX4 will replace the Patriot.

From a family member who works at Subaru in West Lafayette, IN, anyone on the production line can shut the line down if they spot a quality problem.

i guess that's a good thing then, eh? :smiley_thumbs_up:

i wonder how many dome light leaks would be prevented if Chrysler would adopt an inspection system like that! it's not the more efficient system, but it's a sure-fire way to pump out quality product!
