US: Pricing and specifications for all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty announced
Chrysler Group has announced US market pricing for the 2008 Jeep Liberty. The new generation SUV had its world premiere at the New York motor show in April.
The redesigned mid-size SUV is said to feature increased cargo length and rear seat legroom as well as a so-called 'Sky Slider' full-length canvas sunroof.
According to the OEM, the base manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the all-new Jeep Liberty is US$20,990, including a US$660 destination charge. The two variants are to be badged 'Jeep Liberty Sport' and 'Jeep Liberty Limited'. The new model will begin to arrive in US dealerships later this summer.
According to Chrysler Group, the MSRP has been reduced by an average of US$1,000 and approximately US$1,400 in features and content has been added to both trim level variants.
Standard on both versions is a 3.7-litre SOHC V6 engine producing 210hp (157kW) at 5,200 rpm and 235 lb ft (319Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The vehicle has new independent front and new five-link rear suspension systems. The Liberty also offers two four-wheel-drive systems, including one branded 'Selec-Trac II'.
Among the vehicle's standard equipment in the US market are side-curtain airbags, ESP, Electronic Roll Mitigation, all-speed Traction Control, Brake Assist, ABS and tyre pressure monitoring. Options include rain-sensing wipers and 'ParkSense', a reversing sensor system.
The Jeep Liberty is built at Chrysler Group's Toledo North Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio, alongside the Dodge Nitro. A Cherokee-badged version for Europe, which is likely to also be available with a 2.8-litre VM Motori turbodiesel, is expected to premiere at the Frankfurt IAA on 11 September.source (http://www.automotiveworld.com/WVMA/content.asp?contentid=62215)
