Hey there mmace999, I'm 20 miles north of ya at RAF Mildehall. Good to see some UK users on here!!! How are you enjoying your Pat?

Hiya, I know Mildenhall very well. Didn't think there would be anyone from the UK on here let alone from 20 miles away lol.

I love my car, so glad I bought one, it was just chance that I saw one in a showroom over in Peterborough and just fell in love there and then, I just had to have one, the car I had just taken for a drive was out the window.

I just love the more traditional Jeep styling, the squarer look, the round headlights everything. Great to drive as well, very enjoyable, performance worried me as I did have a Volvo S40 T4 so was used to something quite quick but I find the Patriot to be quite nippy, plus its a different driving style I guess.

So tell me about yours ? You have a US model I take it ?

Martin

I'm English but live in France, used to live in Kimbolton near Huntingdon when I was in the UK. I want to buy a Patriot as soon as the are available here in France.

Tell me about your UK spec Patriot
Are you happy with it?
What don't you like about it?
Is it as economical as they say?

Ciao, AGOG:)

That just happens to be when I rotate back to the U.S. So I have to wait. I didn't want to get the light conversion done with the SVA and all that. So I just ordered it and and have it waiting for me in the States.

Hi

I pick my Patriot up on Monday 3rd September; I live in Barnsley, South Yorks.

Trading in my Kia Sorento - nice car, and great for towing but not economical enough. Be interested in comments from other users regarding what mpg they get from theirs.

Hi I'm getting 35mpg average (in a CRD) after 400 miles on the clock- maybe the EVIC is set to US as some of you mention US and UK gallons?

Don't have a Patriot yet BUT am seriously considering one. How do you find the drive on long journeys?

2 Feb - having had a good long test drive I have placed an order today. Very comfortable, goes well both on motorways and great up in the hills.

RogerN the drive is great. Feels solid and stable on motorways. I've not taken it much over 90, maybe touched 100 by accident :O and the car is very confident.
I got 40mpg on a reasonably far journey which included a good portion of A roads.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm concerned about the "mixed messages" from the press! One mag awards the Patriot 4x4 of the year but another reporter describes it as the worst modern car he has ever driven!!

go by sensible mags like what car and autocar. they don't often get it wrong.

I read that negative report and was a little surprised. Granted they were driving the petrol CVT version which is, I believe an aquired taste. Why they didn't drive the diesel which is a better drive, I don't know.
The majority of the reviews that I have read have been mostly positive with a few concerns raised over the quality of the interior and engine noise. A good review appeared in the Guardian which tends to go for the more tongue in cheek appproach.

And here is the link to the article.

Like I said a bit tongue in cheek but it's still positive on the main issues.

Great pics!

How poor do you think the interior is, say compared to a Rav or CrV?

Here in France the New VW Tiguan is only slighty more Euros than the Pat Ltd, the VW interior is (I think) superb.

With all the rumours and upheavel at Chrysler what sold you on the Patriot?
I was 99% going to get one this March but now I'm seriously thinking about not buying one and choosing the VW Tiguan, it just seems better value for money to me. Let me know your thoughts please.

Enjoy your new Pat! :)

Just gor back from a 500 mile round trip - not exactly cross country stuff but a real cross section of driving - from motroways to Heathrow, broken road surfaces at a marina building site near Southamption plus carrying two big Swedish guys who are my business associates.

We all loved the drive - the diesel ensgine is a dream, the stearing very light making parking very easy. A really enjoyable drive

Ash
02-16-2008, 02:41 PM
The interior is just fine in my opinion. Yes I know that a lot of reviews complain about the plastic, but to be honest it suits me fine seeing as I have a young daughter...I can wipe it clean. The leather was a good investment too, it looks great with the silver paintwork.

I looked at a load of alternatives, all more expensive, less reliable off-road and more to tax. I went for the diesel version as it has a lower emission figure than all of the others.

I wasn't sold on the Tiguan, and at the end of the day the CRD has a 2.0 diesel engine that is actually a VW engine, and someone also said that it uses a VW gearbox.

Over the last couple of days I have done 400 miles in it and it was a lovely comfortable ride...so far I am loving it. :)

I must say the Limited does look more plush than the Sport and the steering wheel in the former must make all the difference as I find mine quite plasticy.
I've got a Land Rover Freelander II as a courtesy car at the moment and it feels much more upmarket inside than the Patriot. But at £5k more on the price you would expect so. When I first got the Freelander II I was really impressed, nicer interior much more toys (Bluetooth phone connection, reverse sensors, better plastics and touches) but after 3 days I think I actually prefer the Patriot , just because of the looks and it feels quicker. The blacked out windows and boxy looks really do it for me. Line them side by side the Landy looks more expensive, but more of a housewive's school run car, whereas the Patriot looks more distinctive, purposeful and turns more heads...and does better MPG!

Hi all

Am thinking about getting a Patriot CRD Ltd and wonder if anyone had paid for the option of the 6 Cd changer with 9 speakers and whats it's like for sound etc. I'm used to a bose system in an audi A3 which is fantastic. Also is there a sat nav option because I hate the look of that gap in the middle of the dash under the stereo. In the details I picked up from my jeep dealer it showed a Patrtiot with a central console with a big screen that looked superb but maybe that is a option in the US only. If ANYONE HAS ANY THOUGHTS GIVE ME A SHOUT! CHEERS.

I took the 6cd option and have to say the sound is excellent - more quality volume than you can reasonably use. Can't comment on the sat nav though

Hello

I have just ordered a Patriot CRD Ltd. Dealer could only locate a black one with sunroof and boston Hifi or a silver one without, so went for the black one. I think they must be waiting for a cargo ship to arrive from the US! 14 day delivery and still deliberating if i should get parking/reversing/backup sensors.

Must say I liked the old Cherokee 4x4 estate styling and the economical VW engine. Also, the 4.4% finance cussioned the financial blow :-)

Trading in our trusty old '98 Wrangler Sport TJ didn't get on with the driving position in the new Wrangler.

I live near Tonbridge in Kent. Only seen one other Patriot on the road this year. Are there any more around?

Really loving this vehicle now. Stacks of comments form people about how good it looks and have just done a 300mile round trip with 4 adults and luggage - excellent. I wonder if Jeep really know how good a vehicle (with the diesle engine!) they have got here??? I've only seen on eother on the road so far.

Another long trip again this week - over to the Norfolk Broads - and really looking forward to it.

The only thing I don't like is the very silly filler cap!!

Ash
02-24-2008, 12:44 PM
Yeah the filler cap is a bit awkward to use I find. I can't believe how happy the Patriot makes me feel when I drive it. Having driven performance cars for the last seven years this is a massive change for me. Yeah so the interior is a bit plastic but the diesel engine makes up for it, the way it pulls and pulls is amazing.

Only seen one other myself and that happens to be the demonstrator from the local dealership :) I like the exclusivity of it at the moment.

We have a Black 2007 CRD 5 speed Manual Limited,we replaced our 2.8 Ltd Cherokee last year with it .What I do miss ,which I have been trawling the internet for is how do I get a jack socket fitted so that I can play a MP3 player rather than CDs.

iandevans
03-25-2008, 04:45 AM
I wanted to do the same thing with my Patriot audio system. As a stopgap I use an mp3 player with a built in FM transmitter. It plugs into the 12V power socket. I use an SD card or a pen drive with my mp3 files on it and just press play. I got mine for about £14 (including postage) from Amazon (the TeckNet FM29A ). As with any FM transmitter you have to occasionally retune to avoid a strong radio station but it does the job for now.

If you dont mind I would appreciate seeing pictures of your own set up.Did you know Aldi are selling head units for £40.00 which play MP3 disks as well as having a usb socket ,standard 3.5mm socket and slots for memory cards. I bought one for my Land Rover Defender and for the money its really good.:smiley_thumbs_up:

I've had my Silver 2.0lt CRD for 2 weeks now, and Loving it, I'm getting around 40 to the gallon and it's a great drive, and at a steady 80mph it's a really solid ride, and whilst all the plastics are getting a slating but it's easy to clean and with 2 dogs 2 kids it's coping well,I've just covered 1200 miles and it's very comfy on long runs, all in all, I'm really chuffed with it.
I chose the Sunroof and speaker pack.
See you around folks!

Hi there.

I'm from Gloucester, and have just bought a 2.0CRD limited with sounds, sunrof and tints. very pleased overall.

I'm also very impressed with the aftersales service at Kings of Staverton, nr Cheltenham. I've got a few niggles, and they're having it in next week to sort it out. They've even given me a choice of loan car!!... Think I might try a wrangler????

Glad to hear that there are a few more on the road - began to think I was the only one daft enough to buy one. BUT in my opinion this is one of the best cars I've ever driven (and I cover a huge milage!) This car does everything I want of it and with STYLE. Its the first car I've evr owned that gets great comments from passers by and friends, its comfortabl;e, fast, exconomical - and it even goes off road well! Its also a great towing vehicle - I recently towed a 15ft trailer with about 1200kgs on boars and it went very well. Bought mine just 4 months ago and I have over 9000 miles on the clock.

Wish I was the guy selling them!

I'm seriously considering buying a Patriot once I return to UK in September.

It's looking like I'll only be able to afford the 2.0 Diesel Sport, which is fine as I don't particularly need leather trimmed seats, a full size spare tyre or heated seats. However, I'd LOVE to have cruise control as I live up in Edinburgh and frequently make trips down to the Midlands and London. Is this an option I have at the dealership with a Sport rather than a Limited?

Also is parking radar available on the Patriot? I don't see a mention of it on the Jeep site and I'm quite used to having one that even tells me how much further I can go before I hit the car/tree/building behind me.

you may be better off looking at an ex demo limited edition, with all the bells and whistles, there are loads of deals going, and the only thing it doesn't come with as standard is the rear parking sensors, but i don't need them anyway, the Boston accoustics is a fantastic system, and sounds great, and the seat are coming into their own now the chilly mornings are coming in.
I so hope we get a bit of snow this year.
As for MPG, i drove 380 miles in france, fully loaded with five people in the car, roof box and five bikes and got a return of average 38 to the gallon, and was keeping the speed just under 70 with cruise control, but with the french roads the driving was heaven!
Normal driving around town approx 38 and motorways and easy stated 42mph and often more.
Still loving It!

Hi, guys. I bought a Patriot in May 2008 and since then I've chalked up just over twelve thousand miles. I live in the North Yorkshire Moors and I'm driving most weeks down to London to work. No problems of any concern with the car yet. I get an annoying rotation squeak now and then but that's it. Any complaints? Yep. Surely they could easily have put a bit more storage into the inside. I mean, door pockets? My jeans pockets are bigger. Stowing nets? There ain't none. And oh yeah, what about those head restraints. Surely someone's been given a months notice and a reference for designing those!
Other than that I think the Patriots gotten some bad press quite undeservedly. "Planet 4 by 4" moans about the sparse plastic interior. Surely you actually WANT a 4 by 4 to have an inside that you can wipe with a wet rag and not have to call in the specialist shampooers every time you fetch some mud in? They also bang on about the wind- and road-noise above sixty. These people can't have driven many off-roaders, can they? Ever driven a Daihatsu? I'm sorry, I didn't know. I said, "EVER... DRIVEN... A... DAIHATSU?"
The fuel consumption's great, isn't it? I at least feel I can get out driving again. The car's not just out the front in case someone needs rushing to hospital.
If you're interested, log on to <cleangreencars> website and search for the competition between a Jeep Patriot and a Toyota Prius driving London to Brighton and back. It's an astonishing read!

Yes I think you don't notice it as much at higher speeds with the engine noise and wind. See your dealership as I think this may be common as I have had to have them replaced on two of my Pats.:smiley_thumbs_up:

Thanks for the pics VicBitter, can you give me some measurements like length of bars and bar diameter and some for the brackets please as I have seen some but not sure if they will fit. With you saying that they are low cos the ones I have seen have a downward bend at each end so not sure?
Thanks Roy.

- George -
01-07-2009, 10:38 PM
The side bars are straight, no bends.
They are 170cm long.
The brackets which hold them are 15cm tall.
So the hang from underneath the body is 15cm. Too low for off roading. Great for not!!

Hiya
I had the same problem with my 57 pat. I went to the dealership twice 1st time they dismissed me... 2nd time I made the Mechanic come out with me so he could hear it himself.. it was bad so he said he needed to 'take the shine' off the front pads.
They did that and 3 weeks later its started again!!! should I ask them for a new set this time do you think??

I'd also like the side bars anyone know where's a good place to get them? My Dealer sell all the Startech stuff but they're asking mega bucks!

Hi Tan

I would go back and tell them if they do not sort the brakes out you will get in touch with Jeep direct and tell them about your problem.

I have seen some side bars on e-bay from Direct4x4. Follow the link.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=390048875092 ......or cut and paste. They do look nice just wish I could afford a set, a bit skint at the moment..:smiley_thumbs_up:

Hi Jeep Patriot UK!

I did I called 2 weeks and told them that I'd spoken to Jeep and they've advised that there is a TSB, so they said ok and booked me in... so I turned up Tues to have the Pads and Rotor changed as per the TSB.... after sitting waiting for 45 mins they said they couldn't fix it as the pads listed on the TSB aren't availible... none anywhere in the UK apparently?!?!?! So they sent me away with 'we're going to contact Jeep and ask why they need the 'special compound' pads, where they have them and how long they will take'..... the saga continues...........................

I'll keep you posted!! AARRGGHH!

Oh thanks for that they sure do look good!!!

Hi, Faceman! I got my Patriot from John Gills of Bedale, too. It's just about twenty or thirty miles up the road from me. Did you see those classic Morgans that they had in the showroom? One of them is the spit of Ducky's car in NCIS.

yeah I saw them, they sell a lot of different manufacturers cars and their premises are relatively small, they are about 2 and a half hours from me but the patriot I ended up getting from them was around 2 grand cheaper than one I had seen at the peterborugh dealer (which is an hour from my house), so I didnt mind the drive:)

Hi Tan,

Any idea what the TSB No is for this fault? I have an annoying rotational squeal from the front end on my '57 Pat. Took it into the local dealer (Peterborough) last week, they 'shone' the pads & put in loads of grease but it's back again. Can't find a TSB for this when I put my VIN into the Jeep site so wondered if you had any further info I could use to shame this lot?
Just as an aside, I too found the Peterborough dealership too heavy by about £2k when I bought the Pat, got it from Derby instead as they were very willing to do a good deal on exactly the same model with a lower mileage.

Hi Sportsman!

Yes the TSB no is 05-001-09

I had all the same said to me, they stook the 'shine' off and it lasted about 2 weeks before the dreaded squeak returned! I then turned up at the dealership with the TSB in my hand and there was no backing out!!! They were like... u-u-uummm ok that's fine.... hehe they booked it then then told me that the pads on the TSB were special order... so I waited another 2 weeks and FINALLY it was done today! At last!!!!

Print it off and take it with you and said you called Jeep and they informed you of it (that's what I did they couldn't argue then)

Core it pays to shop around aye! I got a very good deal on moine and luckily the local dealership I brought it from is only 4 miles from home... Knowl Hill Reading, I must say they are very good!

Good luck I hope you get it sorted soon!!!!

Georgekay51 has just had his done with the TSB too......

Thanks very much Tan, really appreciated! I'll give them a call tomorrow and follow your line.

They are a dozy load in Peterborough, ordered a paint stick for a stone chip on the bonnet two weeks ago and despite having my card details 'in his drawer (safely so they said)!' for that time it still hasn't arrived.

Thanks for the info, I'll let you know how it goes.

Just going to post about a weird problem with my radio too.

Not into sound and radio systems much but on my '07 Sport I have the REG single disc radio & CD. Seems to work ok apart from the clock.

It's set to the RDS mode and every so often, totally at random, it suddenly changes the time by several hours and minutes. First noticed it when I had to re-set the compass as someone (Jeep?) had set it to Austria or somewhere, clock went funny for a time then came correct again so I blamed that. Now it just changes itself every few days and just for five to twenty minutes then it corrects itself again, no pattern that I can see.

I've tried it tuned in to the BBC (for the time signal) and without the radio on but either way it still happens at sporadic intervals for a short period of time. Today 1.15pm became 4.32pm for about 20 mins until it corrected itself. I've even calculated CET and its not that, nor is it waiting for the time signal to update as it happens over the hour.

So sporadic that I guess it will be almost impossible to demonstrate to the dealer!

Anyone else out there got a similar, weird clock fault?

Tan

That's terrible!! trouble with most of these places once they have sold you the car and taken your money they couldn't much give a cr*p about you afterwards!!

Hmmm can't help with the radio mind you.... i've seen a few posts about radio's doing funny things but i'm sure that was not keeping the station and always searching but don't quote me... try starting a new thread as there are so many of the experts on here I'm sure some can help.

Hope you get it all sorted and can soon enjoy a squeak free drive, with a radio that tells the correct time ;).

Hi Uk Patriot owners I have finally got my CRD limited patriot,I will post pics soon but have been busy driving it.

I have a few questions for anyone with similar model, although I will read my manual soon.

When I open car with remote key my headlights come on is this normal?

When I start the car I have to press the clutch down, dealer said this is an American thing, just cant remember doing this on test drive.

As with all new cars it takes a little while to get used to it but so far I am very happy.

Yep You must depress clutch whilst starting, other wise it wont start!!---I think you can adjust your " Headlights on with Key" through the EVIC on dash board-- I have mine set at on for 30 secs.

Haha great drive aye!

Mine does that too, Tiptronic is right it can be changed with the computer thing on the dash... Mine stopped working and the garage did it for me only took him about 2 mins!

Haha funny you say that about the clutch, on my test drive I never actually started the car up it was already running (think they do that so it's warmed up a bit and doesn't sound too noisy) and again when I drove it away..... anyway I got to the petrol station put fuel in and tried to start it up... nothing!!! you should've seen the state of me, I had 3 blokes trying to help me and nothing they said call the AA..... (I wasn't aware if the Jeep assist either at the time)
But I thought no I'll call the garage I've just brought it if there's a problem they can bloody sort it out!!!

SO I called and spoke to the sales manager...... Oh I was wondering how long it would be before I heard from you again (cheeky bugger I thought!)..
I went into one 'I'M AT THE GARAGE AND IT WON'T START>>>>>>' he laughed... 'Oh didn't I tell you, you have to press the clutch down to start it??!!'

OMG to say I was p***ed off is an understatement... I got the usual.. TYPICAL BLONDE looks from the blokes in the garage and drove off very red faced!

Lol but laugh about in now! hehe

Tell you what you'll never start another car up without putting your foot on the clutch again!!! A good thing I spose when it's left in gear!

Enjoy your ride

Hello again guys, just wondered if anyone knows what kind of water height the patriot can drive through, and will it let water in if you drive through water that is deeper than the lower door seal, random question i know but it came to me when i was driving in really heavy rain the other day.

Jeepjohnb
06-07-2009, 12:01 PM
Wading depth for our FD1's is 279mm, thats safely of course, the Fd11 is probably about 20cm higher if its trail rated.

FD11 are only found is US I think, and have greater ground clearance which makes them more capable off road, other than that Im not sure if theres much difference but this is deffinately the site to find out, just put a search in for FDII.

Theres also a vid on here of someone wading through water which is deeper than the bottom of the door and a write up of what happened, this was one of the US Jeep Pats, I will have a search and put alink on.

Just interested to see if anyone as chipped their Pat, and what it entails, cost ect.

I would like to do in future although I am very happy with my pat, I want to get max performance. Its also better than alot of similar sized 4x4's.

Like with the VW diesels say 2.0 you get a range of different performances, BHP from 138- 200 ish.

Id want to improve acceleration more than top speed.

nebcarson

£25 ebay tuning box works fine. quite a bit quicker acceleration but you could spend 200-300 and get a proper remap.

no issues with warranty...although i do know the dealer quite well.

Only time I've noticed this not happening is when I've had the ignition on for a few seconds, maybe tuning the radio or something, before starting the engine. Not seen any thread on the forum about how to turn it off. I agree it can be very annoying, bit like the seatbelt bongs until I found the answer for that particular one here!

You might want to go to one of the few remaining Chrysler jeep dealers here in the uk and order the "compass bezel" or there are plenty of people in the US that are willing to ship one out to you. you won't save any money by doing that though as you get stung on import tax. (I did!) just note that there are two distinct finishes, one a brighter silver than the other. it's repeated on other parts of the dash/doors so get the right one! if you do a search on this forum you'll see that its been done already and very well documented. (thats how I got the idea for my install!) you'll also need a scoshe dash kit which you can get here.

Hi Tiptronic, yeh Im happy with mine too, but Im thinking long term about how I'd like my pat to look, Im not into the low ride with big rims for that street urban cruiser look, I like the idea of improving on its off road credentials, I like the look of the FD1s on here that have the lift.
Also like the black Jeep cherokee on here. Saying this its all about money and whether I can really justify spending any more on my pat than I have already.

I've had exactly the same. None of the dealers in Cambridge, Chester, Bournemouth or Ipswich have been able to fix it permanently it always comes back which leads me to suspect a build up of brake dust is the ultimate cause. It only happens at low speeed below 20mph and because one of my customers is on an airfiled and the drive is restricted to 20mph its always embarassing squeaking round the place!

Ay up UK Patrioteers, Th'ow do ? Been lurking around the forum for months without posting owt but thought tonight I'd say hello. My Patriot purchase was a bit of an impulse buy, so thanks to this forum I've since learned a lot about the Pat and the Jeep brand in general, been a bit of an eye opener as it's not all good news eh ? Im constantly (paranoid !!??!!!) looking for leaks when it rains, which is just about everyday up here, but so far have had no probs at all and the Pats as dry as a bone.
Absolutely love the car ! Superb value for money compared to similar 4x4's. In the UK it's an underrated / unknown gem in my opinion, after 3 months of driving mine, only today have I seen another one on the road !!! Take care y'all.

Hi Spudcan and welcome to the site. :smiley_thumbs_up:I am now on my second Pat as the first was on a PCP.:Racing: Then I decided to buy. I have upgraded mine a bit with Halo fogs as well as the standard fogs but mine have got a added blue LED. ;)I also have chrome mirror covers, door handle covers and window deflectors and not forgetting the side bars and custom fitting mud flaps. I have found with this Pat that I have a leak in the boot area, as I find a pool of water when it rains heavily.:( It seems to be coming from the light area!!! The only other problem I found with this car is the paint work around all of the door entry points. :(I found that under the paint was like dust particles and needed to be put into the body shop to have this fixed. :doh:Oh and not forgetting the brake pads that used to screech at low speed. ;)BUT apart from that I love my Pat.

Hi Jeep Patriot UK, glad to hear that you have only had a few minorish problems with your Pat. The mods sound good too !! One small critisism I have of the Pat is that the headlights (although powerful enough) could do with just a bit more , so the only mod I'm seriously contemplating at the mo is getting some bumper mounted spots. Oh yeah... a set of 2010 model headrests and handbrake would be nice too but thats just wishful thinking.

Thanks for the heads up about the paint in the door apetures, noticed today that only the passenger side front door can be locked / unlocked with the key ! Obviously a throwback from it's LH Drive design, are they all like that ?

I've been checking the boot / Spare tyre area of my Pat for the dreaded water and luckily nowt yet, even after powerwashing it in the rain this afternoon....must be mad !!! :o

Hmm, you were sorta there with Blackburn and Skipton, I'm further north west though in South Cumbria, on Morecambe Bay.

Got the 3000 mile first oil change coming soon, gonna use that place at Ings near Windermere, they used to be a Jeep dealer, but now they only do servicing and repair, have you used them for owt ?

Tiptronic - Thanks for the welcome, after lurking for months I know you are a prolifilc and knowledgable poster, cheers bud.

Oreet Marra. I live in Cockermouth, Tother end of the county. Got my car at Border Cars using my old Pug 306 for scrappage. £14570 with Black paint and Tax. Got it in August which was just in time considering the weather we have been having.I've never used the garage at Ings though ive driven past it a lot of times.I only know of 2 other Riots in this area, one in Cleator Moor and one from a village near here. Dont see many about, I think mines the only one on the site where I work and there are thousands of cars on there every day. If I see a blue Pat on the road I'll give a flash, chances are it will be you.

Hi all. After taking some advice on the forum, I've purchased a brand new Sport 2.0CRD which I'm picking up on Saturday. I got a cracking deal with it, but it did involve me buying the one they'd just had delivered which fortunately was black.
Sadly, it doesn't have tinted windows, and the dealer offered to do them for £350....I've got someone coming round just after I pick it up to do it for less than half that!
I'm in Kent, and I haven't seen many others around here but can't wait to take it for a spin through the countryside!

We had a bout 2 inches overall. But my road's like an ice rink, the sun misses it in winter. I found today that my abs works fairly well too. It made a terrible racket. I was in second gear and doing about 10mph.

Hi All,

Patriot driver from B'ham here.

Just wondered, does anyone have a problem with the medium wave stations on their standard fit radio? Mine doesn't play any! Doesn't recognise the obvious stations like 693 and 1053 and when I hit "seek" it just goes on an endless loop going through the numbers because it doesn't pick anything up. Odd!

Other than that, very happy with my Patriot. Had to do B'ham to London and back this morning and it was a pleasure. The heated seats really helped :-)

Hello mattfirevai & welcome to the family!! I dont have a lot of probs with radio , apart from I seem to have tuned Radio4 to button 5 on FM . I dont use MW very much but I have noticed a lot of scrolling round on this Wave Length. I did a run in the summer Brighton to Cheltenham & averaged 47 MPG. I live near Cheltenham now but was born & raised around Wolverhampton , West Midlands, so I know that area quite well.

Due to collect mid jan from Border cars. Green Pat Ltd.

Replacing trusty santa fe, which has done well over the last couple of days in the snow.

I'm in the deep south (Kirkby Lonsdale) and looking forward to seeing others on the road - they're few and far between. Which is good in one way.

Patriot has been fantastic in the snow these last couple of days, can't fault it, in a way it's been great that the council hasnt been overly bothered to clear the roads round here, without the Pat I would probably not attempted to go to work yesterday, but having a go at a snow covered untreated steep hill was too much of a temptation, even at 3.15 am ;)

secondly i bought roof bars and a box the other day, only to find i have to remove my aerial to fit it, not good... have any of you guys got a roof box and if so what position are your bars fitted ( do you use the arrow mark on the rails?) and practically, how far forward can you have the box to enable the aerial to remain fitted?

Hi faceman , sorry cant help with roof box query, but yes I have had my drivers door freeze up twice this year. On both occasions it took about 2 hours to thaw out. The first time i climbed over the gearlever from passenger door. The second time I gave up & took the Skoda Fabia wagon, this little car never freezes up, however it is parked closer to the house & is not so exposed.

Yep another one for the frozen drivers door. Put some de-icer around the seals and got it open but it's the internal mechanism that's sticking. Managed to free it within 10mins so no major disasters yet.

Does anyone else find the indicators to go off very easily when turning?

as i said in my post, its not always cold when it happens, just very intermittent, i am due the 18k servicing at the end of jan so i will get them to examine the door mechanism then, along with the knocking feeling in the steering when turning right and the seemingly poor braking... just a small list ;)

Hi Faceman

I do have a roof box which I put on when needed. I position the box up to the aerial but not touching. I have not had a problem with this as the bars are positioned just right on my box, which are spaced equal on the roof rails. I don't think it matters much to have them on the arrow marks as mine are not. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Hi

We have only had our patriot since end of October 2009, we got a black 2.0CRD Sport, must say was very impressed with it, I am very happy Jeep have gone back to the classic shape of their cars.

The car has now done just over 4500miles, and some annoying issues are starting to appear, the first thing is when going over road bumps you get a scraping/knocking noise from the front of the car, the dealer has replaced the knackered bush on the anti-role bar but I am still getting the noise every so often. Has anyone else had this issue. The second thing is when accelerating their is a rattle coming from the dashboard but the dealer could not find the fault and they have had a few in with this issue .

Also has anyone managed to fit an all terrain or mud terrain tyre to their patriot without any rubbing issues when going off road especially.

Looking forward to being part of the Jeep community again.

do you have the recommended thule bars? and which brand of roof box have you got, i went for a halfords exodus, it may be because of the positioning holes on the box that i am having this problem, i have since bought a shark fin aerial that fits over the existing aerial base and connects to the screw thread, i did a quick test to check reception and it seems ok.

I have just completed my first three months of ownership of a 08 CRD in silver. It was purhcased from Chrysler fleet mangement with 10000 miles on the clock. I sold my Subaru Forester non turbo to buy it.
I have come across some of the afroementioned problems like noisy dashboard etc. However I would like to pick the brains of some of you experienced members.

I am based between two high moorland areas in Somerset and was hoping that the Jeep would be a good replacement for my Scooby. Apart from its wading depth or lack of (without Freedom Track 2)and no low ratio box it appears to have been a good buy. I do have one problem though. The standard Continenetal 215/60/17 tyres are shocking in the snow/ice that we are experiencing at present. Trying to buy better tyres with the same profile is a mare. Any ideas out there? Would I need to get a spare set for winter, i.e. new rims of a different size? or different profile. Any help would e great even form our cousins in the states

I saw this article, and thought some of you will be testing your Pats out in the snow:

It seems patrons at the highest-altitude pub in Britain said
heavy snowfall left them stranded at the bar for three days
while awaiting rescue by snowplows.

Workers and patrons at the Tan Hill Inn in North Yorkshire,
England, said about 30 people were trapped inside the pub
by a white-out snowstorm New Year's Day and remained stuck
in the snow for three days at the business, which is located
1,732 feet above sea level.

"Morale's been high -- people realized they wouldn't be
trapped forever," said Mike Carter, 44, assistant manager
of the pub. "They've peeled carrots and potatoes and helped
make dinner."

Many of the trapped customers were members of Leeds
University's Cross Country Club. "We were meant to go the
next day," club member Nathan Martin, 26, said. "Luckily
none of us was in a rush to get home! It's been good.
There's been a quiz every night which has kept us going."

A quiz and all the beer you can drink.

Hi Tiptronic, How are you doing with those Scorpions in the snow? I went with those tyres a couple months ago after my conti's wore out. I must admit it was a choice based on the price. I'm not sure I like the either the look or the performance over the conti's as they seem to "track'" a little but that may be down to tracking. Something I need to check. At the moment I'm having absolutely no problems getting around in my hard hit county of Bucks where certain department stores put up stranded travellers and staff in their bedding department.:D

tiptronic
01-06-2010, 02:19 PM
Scorpions are brilliant in the wet & dry--However although I get around OK in this weather, I would put them down as only average on compacted snow & Ice. Of course they are not as new as they used to be!!. I allways get my tracking checked when I buy new tyres.

Well, intersting discussion on winter tires. I wonder if you could use something else rather than snow tires, if you rarely have those conditions? I have chains for my Jeep (and my Tracker) so I can make it up my drive in winter. My drive is over a mile long, steep up hill in parts, and dirt with ruts, etc. Those chains are a must for me, but there are other things you can use to go over the tires for winter weather. Just a thought, then you could keep the tires you like on the vehicle, but still get the traction you need on the few occaisions you need it.

Here's a couple examples:

Mine seems a bit noisier at the front than it should be. It's already had some warranty work. Took it for a drive with the technician and it seemed fine, drove it to work and it did it again. It seems to be louder on something on the suspension than any other car I've ever had. I think it was the arms they replaced under the warranty.

Although I have to admit some areas did have more than their fair share. Where I work had 6inches when I got there and about 8 inches when I left. Hi Guys,

My Pat had the 'mis-fire' problem for months I was always being fobbbed off with fuel pipe problems which they replaced then told me they were on the wrong way... untill it broke down completely couldn't get any power - stuck on the motor-way! It was take in, and replaced the Turbo.... had it back 3 days and it broke down again!!!! This time they replaced the Fuel Filter... AT LAST they solved it... not more hestation problems!!!!

My drivers door also jammed shut last year... they had to replace the whole dooor lock! all done under warranty!

Can you also please let me know if you have an engine cover over the engine on your Pat? There is a small cover with CRD on it but I'm sure there was a complete engine cover over the engine before they had it in the last time but now its not on there?.. Confused (I know thats not hard for me but...) I'm sure there was one on there!?!?!

Does anyone else have parking sensors on their Patriot? I have them on mine and they seem to activate a constant beeeeep noise everytime I go into reverse gear, with the beep getting faster as I get closer to something. Most other parking sensors don't make any noise until your XX away from something and beep faster as you get closer. Mine beep if I'm reversing with nothing around, doesn't seem right?

I think some of them actually work like that. I have a friend with a Saab (RIP) that does just what you describe. I have aftermarket ones on mine and they perform like the latter you mentioned. So long as they are accurate and prevent expensive dings, it should be ok

Hi Faceman, you will have to take some pics and show us as I don't think the feet are that low to touch the roof. I will have to have a look when I get round to putting the box on again.:smiley_thumbs_up:

Does anyone else have parking sensors on their Patriot? I have them on mine and they seem to activate a constant beeeeep noise everytime I go into reverse gear, with the beep getting faster as I get closer to something. Most other parking sensors don't make any noise until your XX away from something and beep faster as you get closer. Mine beep if I'm reversing with nothing around, doesn't seem right?

I have the Chrysler parking sensor on my Pat... As with most It beeps 3 times when you put it in reverse and then starts to beep slowly only when you are close to something and then a constant Beeeeeeeeeeppppp when you are about 6" away from the object.
I'd say there is something not right with yours must be really annoying! I'd get it checked.

Hey folks, on the fuel filter issue, I never had a deisel, so I could be very wrong about this, but on the gas vehicles, I get that hesitation after about 3,000-5,000 miles, unless I use a fuel injector cleaner. So I put it in the fuel tank at every oil change. It's worked in my Tracker, and the fuel filter is still factory original with 170,000 miles on the vehicle.

This fuel filter thing seems to be a common problem with the diesels it could have something to do with the problem i had last week, I will tell them to change mine when it goes in, in a couple of weeks

Had the exact same issue with my Dodge Caliber, new filter and all was ok ............ will know what to look out for if it happens on my new Patriot - two long weeks to wait before I get the keys!

After getting my new Patriot I am always on the look out for fellow owners in the area. So far I have seen:

1. Blue Patriot, lady driver in Great Missenden
2. Silver Patriot, Downley Area in High Wycombe
3. Sliver Patriot, Reservoir Areas in Tring - got a wave from that fella.

Will keep looking :-)

I'll have to keep an eye out for a nice shiny 07/57 Yellowhat Patriot in the Downley area, especially if I have to make a trip over to Sieu May for a cracking Chinese :-D

Maybe I should change my avatar to the picture of my old Gallet Helmet ;-) I see also that you are into photography, Nikon I hope!!

Just joined this, had my Pat since September and love it. Took it offroad a few times and am very impressed with it. Any other offroaders got any useful info on stuff available in the UK for them? Loads in USA obviously but it costs a fortune to get it shipped over!

Very cryptic...specially the chinese reference!? Sadly, with the weather not knowing what it wants to do right now, black is the worst colour to keep clean. So, shiny it aint!!
Strangely enough, have just been issued with "new" gallet's.
Nikon all the way. just about to get a D90

Mind if I join in guys, just got a Patriot one week ago and feeling my way around it. Good to see there is a lively Uk following.

Very impressed with the jeep so far and it even snowed up here for me to try out in!

Located in N.E Derbyshire up in the hills near Chesterfield and Patriots seem to be rare up here.

Yellowhat - the Chinese is not cryptic. I thought you were in Downley. The Chinese on Littleworth Road is superb and I go there from time to time :-D

My "buggy" is going just fine. The uConnect handsfree is pretty cool. All voice activated and call quality is good. The shiny black paint is not so anymore ...... the roads are so mucky and do not get me started on the potholes around this area - shame on you Bucks County Council!

Hi Xomegaman, welcome to the forums. I did not see too many Patriots around, probably none in fact until I got mine. I have seen a few since but not too many. How did you find your Patriot in the snow?? I used to have an old Nissan Terrano 4x4 which was great around the hills of Wycombe. Was really hoping to compare my Patriot but we have not had any more snow after the big dumping a few weeks ago :-(

mark50d - thanks for the welcome. The last time I had anything like a 4x4 was a Santa Fe a few years ago. The snow we had since I got the Patriot was only 3 to 4 inches and the Patriot was fine but I realise that wasn't a real test yet. I live high up - if it says it may snow it always does with us and it's usually 6 inches plus so time will tell.

yellowhat - I notice that you have rear parking sensors fitted - can I ask did you fit them yourself? I find that it's the only thing I miss on the Patriot. I'm happy to fit them myself just not sure if there is enough room behind the back bumper. Not really had time to scrabble under it yet!

Oh yes - I would love to see the images as well please Steve.

Talking of grilles, I rather like the look of the mesh grill that is advertised in the Jeep Patriot Accessories eBrochure on their web page. Trouble is that I asked the bloke at the dealer how much it was and he did not know it existed :-(

Ok, tour over, I can get on replies. I had to pick myself up first from laughing at Marks surprise at his dealers ignorance. That is something I'm afraid you're going to have to get used to!

Xomegaman: I had the sensors retro fitted fitted locally. They're not expensive and there and many differing types out there. What I do know is that I saved a few quid on the dealer option (no surprise) let me know if you're still interested and I supply details.

Mark50d: I'm sorry for the cynicism. I only moved here two and a half years ago and living the busy single life that I do, my diet is largely takeaways. (I know, bad boy!) I'm afraid one of the few places that I frequent around here is the Tai pan chinese takeaway just off Plomer Hill. I thought maybe you'd seen my Pat there:)
On a more serious note. I ventured on to your site and looked at your pics. Fantastic. I only hope one day to create images like that but for now I'm still learning.
I too have hands free but built in to my fabulous Pioneer head unit. I've only just changed over to an iphone so I haven't yet organised my voice dialing.

Hi Steveo, Ash - yep, thats the one in that ebrochure. Very tempting, will have to wait a while tho after forking out for uConnect!

Saw a couple more fellow owners over the last few days:
6. Silver 08 (I think) in Amersham Old Town on Tuesday Morning
7. Black 08 (I think) towards Amersham on A404 Mop End

The more I look the more I see :-D

Doesn't look like I'm going to get my snow now until next winter, ah well; the sunshine is better :-)

Thanks for the reply - I bit the bullet on reversing sensors and got some off eBay from a dealer I have bought from before. Measured up and drilled - fitted great through the back box section and the control box fitted nicely in the spare wheel well side. They work really well and cost a lot less than the dealer fit ones.

I've added a chrome grill from the US and also a wood dash kit as there was a little too much black plastic for me - must be an age thing! Proper Jeep dog guard was thrown in with the sale so now we're fully equipped - tow bar to follow soon and I must say I'm very impressed with the Patriot and look forward to great times with it and great tips from this site.

Hiya.
Never saw a patriot before I got mine two weeks ago, then at 7am, monday morning, what did I see.... a mirror image of my jeep coming around the roundabout.
We were like rabbits in the headlights.... both looking at each others vehicles.
Don't get that with a seat ibiza do you.

I must admit since I've had my Pat I've quite a few. I spoke to a lady the other day who had a black Ltd with a large crack across her windscreen. She said she'd been waiting for over a month for a replacement but it was supposed to be done that day.

Hi there, I wouldn't pay £190 for a mesh grill when you can get it done a lot cheaper. I put this on my Pat and it only cost £30. Ali Mesh grill from Halfords. Only thing is to fix it in correctly you will need to remove all the front end, bumper come grill! as they are one.

HI,

Im having my first service tomorrow which is costing £185 if they find nothing wrong.

Also having a spare keyfob made which is costing around 195.

Just been looking at some old posts re sites of pats in the UK, Im seeing alot more in my region which you could say is North E, W England, even seen a grey one which I think must be very rare in the Leigh area, Red one in Swinton S yorks, a black sport in Balby Doncaster, a Black sport in Sprotbrough Doncaster, Ive seen a few in the Hull area, and a silver one running round S yorks with lady driver. I would say they are definately spreading in this area.
I even had a wave from the driver of a Red one in Wath on Dearne, I had to wave back.

Price sounds about right for first service. I've seen a few lately around the Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon , Cirencester area , but they are all Silver or Black. In fact I've only seen these 2 colours in my dealers showroom!!

Is there anyone with the PAt CVt in the UK or anyone test drove, whats it like ?

Anyone added any performance enancing gadgets like chips which they recommend or not, (Im still considering this) normally I find the pat ok but Ive found when I carry a full load eg 5 people and sone luggage the pick up is a little slow.

Any UK members had a lift, not the face kind.

I see that some of the UK members have added some great looking accessories I like the homemade mesh grille

Dont worry about the EVIC in US ---The UK spec is actually in Imperial UK. The EVIC on the Caliber was the same for UK models!

Is it due a service or oil change

tiptronic
04-25-2010, 04:20 PM
It may be fuel filter related. The handbook states replace every 3rd service ( 27.000 miles) However dealers are reccomending change at 2nd service ( 18.000 miles ) I had mine changed early to cure misfire & rough running. This is only applicable to the CRD engine.

Wingman
04-26-2010, 12:46 PM
Mileage is 14k Last serviced at 10k will try a fuel filter change. Do you know where to pick up a 12volt feed in the engine bay that is only on when the ignition is on?
Did you know that a copy of the workshop manual on CD is available on ebay for £5. I bought one and it appears to be the genuine article.

How do we upload pictures, asks for a web address???

Hi all,

I have a 59 plate CRD 6 speed - 5k on the clock and giving me 36 mpg round town and I manage 44 mpg on a 150 mile motorway run.

One question I have is re oil usage - I have topped up the oil at the rate of 0.5 litres per 1000 miles. Last 2 diesel cars I have had have used no oil at all (Toyota and Hyundai) - is this normal for the 2.0 VW engine?

Stevie

tiptronic

I have been told that diesel engines tend to use more oil than the petrol equivalent. However my Patriot CRD used no oil between changes neither did my Skoda Superb 1.9 TDi ( Very similar).I have looked on certain websites & some have stated that the 2litre VW unit is prone to using a little oil.
