newjeepgirl 07-20-2007, 04:25 PM Before the Patriot, I drove a 2000 saturn (my first new car). When we traded in the odyssey, I gave that to my husband and I took the Patriot (except days he drives the carpool).
Since this thread has alot of VW people, I will add that my first car (briefly) was a VW diesel rabbit, next was an 85 jetta, then a 91 jetta (all used)
SMJPG2008 07-20-2007, 04:37 PM I drove a 2003 Olds Alero, sold that so I could get a Patriot. My very first car was an 1984 VW Rabbit, loved it was a fun car. Got it in 1996 only had it 2 years, then it died for good.

Buddha09 07-21-2007, 12:49 PM Wow, quite a bit of 'dub owners here on this forum.
I agree with a poster that VWvortex, hands down, been arguably one of the best automotive car forums around. It was well-established and tonssssssss of members and vendors.
Hope this one turns out to be a success too!

I love the car, it's as fast a car as I could have ever wanted, handles like a dream, and is great in the snow. Just started our family, though... Good bye sports car, hello family car. I wanted the WRX for so long and am shedding one big alligator tear in trading it in. Feels like I am trading in a part of my youth with it. Looking forward to my 08 Patriot Sport to come in now, however... ordered on Friday the 13th!

I kinda feel the same way as you do about selling off your WRX. I absolutely loved my Jetta, but I wanted to get out of the car modding scene... and to stop dumping any more $$$ into my old Jetta :(
nurotc 07-21-2007, 08:27 PM Before the Patriot...'94 Jeep Wrangler.
First vehicle ever... Orange '68 VW Bug.... :)
tcperconti 07-21-2007, 09:04 PM I traded in my '05 Scion xB for my '07 Patriot. The xB has an incredible amount of room for a vehicle that small. Insane gas mileage (34 city, 37 highway), fully loaded it was $14,900. Top-shelf build quality (Toyota). Smoothest shifting 5-spd I've ever driven. Great ease of entry in both front and rear doors.
The downsides of it were, although it is made well, and feels solid, it also feels tinny. Everything fit tightly and evenly, but it just felt a little thin in the sheet metal. (If that makes any sense) Also, the gearing of the 5-spd is optimized for city driving. That meant great get-up-and-go around town, but had the engine screaming at highways speeds. (4000+ rpms @ 70-75 mph... in contrast, my Patriot revs @ 2000rpms at the same speed) The automatic loses only 2 mpg but is better geared for the highway.
Rictus58 07-23-2007, 07:59 AM '85 Ford Escort From '93-'94.
'89 Wrangler from '94-'01
'97 Wrangler from '01-Present.

'01 Chevy Impala with Jeep
'96 Chevy Tahoe with Impala
'00 Chevy Malibu with Impala Totaled the Tahoe
'00 Chevy 1500 Extended Cab with Impala only had Malibu for 2 months
'03 SAAB 9-3 with 1500
'03 Land Rover Discovery with SAAB
'07 Jeep Patriot with SAAB Only had Discovery for 3 months GAS SUCKS!!
Thats it for now!!
Fennepa 07-23-2007, 10:06 AM Me too I also drove a Mazda 6 great sport sedan for the money fun to drive.
Completely agree. I loved that car, especially when I was working at a job that required a TON of out of town (2-3 hrs) driving.
I didn't give it up b/c I needed to, I just loved the Pat so much I had to get it!!!!
NOT to mention the positive equity I had in the Mazda, it retained it's value very very well.
Pigshanks 07-30-2007, 12:28 AM Traded of an 03 Windstar for the 07 Patriot. Still have an 02 Sahara.
RichHelms 07-30-2007, 07:04 AM Gave away my 2000 Suzuki Vitara. It was a tank but totally reliable and I swear it could climb a tree. Also have a 2005 smart Pulse Cabrio
We live 4 kms back a dirt road so the Pat is great for bad weather or when the road is mud.

MrSensible 07-30-2007, 01:30 PM Given the car's reputation I think it was a rather fitting name.

Also had a 1990 Cherokee sport,
which i used for work,
Just got my Patriot yesterday,
love my ride
jeepxk 08-08-2007, 11:44 AM It is funny how many have owned VW's before. We currently have a 06 Commander and a 99 Cherokee and have been shopping for a new car for my wife. Of course the Patriot was on our list along with Honda Civic and VW Jetta or Passat. After lots of going back and forth we ended up getting a really good deal on a 07 Passat Wolfsburg Edition. I still would like a Patriot in the future but kind of liked the idea of having one good gas milage car in the family also. If you drive a Commander and a Cherokee you know what I mean.
svorg 08-08-2007, 01:21 PM 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport w/193k+ miles and still going. It'll be a sad day to turn it in, but hopefully worth it for the Pat.

hasty10805 11-13-2007, 05:37 PM allpaw: I can't wait for the G8 to come out I want to see it in person!! How does yours handle? The wife don't like the look of it too much, but I love it!! What is the 0-60 time? I think we are going to get a new SAAB AERO! The V8 power sounds really good though! :blah: Sorry !!
allpaw 11-19-2007, 02:12 AM Before you by the Saab you definately need to have a look at the G8. The Commodore handles extremely well, the steering is crisp and well balanced with no dead centre vagueness. The balance is near 50:50 as the bulk of the engine is inside the front wheel centreline. You can dial in neutral balance or wild oversteer, which by the way you can hold this thing in oversteer for weeks, it's got that much control. Wait till you see it in the flesh, it is one of the best proportioned sedans on the market. Even makes BMW's look a little awkward, I know that's a big call but from every angle this car looks fantastic.
My car has a few mods and is making more power. Factory 0-100 is around 5.6 seconds but my car is good for around 0-100 in 4.9 if a can get traction!
There are alot quicker (twin turbo's and bigger tyres will get you to 0-100 in around 4.4). I know this sounds like fantasy times but there are daily drivers running sub 10's down the quarter and these guys drive them to the strip and back home again.
Sorry for the yap, but these really are a pretty nice car for daily use.
Cheers,
Tim.

Brian P 11-26-2007, 11:52 PM My last car was in fact my first car. A '94 Dodge Shadow. My grandfather bought it new, passed it down to my Mom who finnally passed it down to me. I retired it with 247 000 km. I felt that if I was actually going to pay for a car, it had better be something I am in love with.

jepstr67 03-22-2008, 10:55 AM In addition to my herd of classic Jeeps, I had a Chevy HHR, that one that looks like an old station wagon from the 50s. Great car. Good mileage, 33 MPG. However, when Jeep introduced a vehicle that was able to get 30 MPG I was sold. I drive a lot in winter and I found I was always driving a Jeep rather than the Chev. You can't save money on gas If you don't drive the car that get the good mileage. Every time I wanted to go anywhere there seemed to be some kind of weather better suited for a Jeep. So now a fuel saving Jeep Patriot I have!

quasimodem51 03-24-2008, 07:27 AM My last vehicle was a 1997 Ford Escort Wagon. Excellent vehicle for a nerd-mobile. It carried me for 10 years, 250,000 kms on 3 sets of tires, 3 mufflers, 2 sets of plugs, original clutch and original battery - honest. I changed the timing belt at 200,000 kms only because we took the Escort on a 4500km trip. Air worked all the way until the summer of 07. Gave it to my step son. It is still running strong. he finally had to change the battery at 275,000 kms. Amazing.
I can only dream the Patriot will be as reliable. My wife's ride is a 98 Jeep Cherokee Classic.

But I did like my '98 Chev S10 with all the goodies. Got 135K miles without any serious problems. Sold it after 10 years to buy the Patriot! My dog misses the Chev worse than me--she "owned" the front seat, but now there's a barrier on the Patriot, keeping her in the rear!

2008 Jeep Patriot ( traded the 2500hd)
For a long time I had 2 vehicles just for me. It was kinda nice and I was single.
I really wish I hadn't totalled the mustang, it was a police package and was nice.
The 2500hd got 10mpg all the time with maybe 11mpg on highway at 65mph.
I only work 7.5 miles from the house, but my parents and friends are 100 miles away so it was like $75 in gas to visit them. Which meant I didn't......

About the written off f150.... I turned on to a highway on ramp, but the car in front of me chickened out trying to merge into traffic and slammed on the brakes. I came to stop no problem but the guy behind me in a little neon ( 3 people r.i.p) nailed my rear end at probably 140km/h.

robi454 12-08-2009, 07:06 PM Let's see...it all began with my
1982 Chevrolet Malibu Classic (Police Car) put a 383 Stroker with Intercepter Intake.
1959 Jeep CJ-5 Willys, 327
1975 Chevy Nova, with a 262, replaced that with a 403, went Edelbrock for the intake.
1979 Dodge Magnum, it had a 360 in it. Good car always started when I needed her to.
1993 Plymuth Duster. Fun little death trap.
1978 Chevrolet Blazer K-5, 350 under the Hood and full time 4 wheel drive.
1977 GMC Sierra Grande, 454, 3 inch lift 35 inch super swampers
1999 Chevrolet Caviler, P.O.S. I was glad when the x wife demolished it.
I still own the Malibu Blazer and the Willy's. I love my babies.

*I traded the Daytona to my dad for the Cutlass in High school. I loved the Olds and learned how to drive in it, so he traded me. Three days after I got it it dropped a trans out of the blue, so my dad gave me my Daytona back since he thought there was nothing wrong with the Cutlass. Looking back, I really wish I had just fixed the transmission, but the Daytona was a great car too, never let me down once in many cross country drives. (correction- Only let me down once... Broken CV axle 500 miles from home. Had to tow with a uhaul back to Illinois and spend 2 days in January working on it in subzero temps. jerk car......

Miss the $hit out of my Merkur XR4Ti. My plan (since I'm over here in Germany) is to obtain a Sierra Cosworth RS500 or an Escort RS200 once my '08 Escape is paid off. All of the ones that are in good condition are "outrageously" expensive. 10+ grand in Euros...15+ in dollars. So, even if I have to, I may end up getting a stock Sierra and just doing work on it. It'll be a long drawn out process... but that's my plan at least.

1999 Chevy Malibu- don't ask. I needed a car went Talon went down

I still have it for run around car, very few problems with it and it still runs great. also had access to my husbands 1993 Wrangler in the winter. Even though I spun it around on ice patch this year. But that can happen in anything on ice.
johnnyboy123 07-05-2010, 01:28 PM I had a 2000 Chevy Malibu LS which had 117,000 miles on it when I traded it in for the Pat. (Traded it in without the wheels).

Bulldog89 08-15-2010, 09:15 PM I have had two 1993 Ford Aerostar’s and then a 2002 Chevy Astro before my Jeep Patriot. Pretty much drove all vehicles till they dropped dead. All my vehicles I have had, had four wheel drive on them. Living up north and having to drive in snow it was to me a pre-requisite, plus they had what I considered good enough ground clearance. Everything ended up with over 200,000 miles and engine problems with many other problems as well. To many problems to fix needing to much money that it just wasn’t worth it, get another used vehicle and drive it to it goes.
Stonent 08-16-2010, 12:16 AM I drove a 2007 Saturn ION until that fateful day about a month ago when I decided I wanted a vehicle that couldn't fit underneath a RAV4.

IowaEagle 08-28-2010, 08:43 PM The Patriot really did not replace anything for a while. I was driving the '95 XJ which was really what my wife had bought to drive many years ago. She was driving the '98 Durango. Well we bought the Patriot which I started used as my daily driver because of I drive a lot. She got the XJ back and our daughter borrowed the Durango to use as her daily driver.
But in reality the Patriot is temporarily replacing my '82 AMC Eagle SX/4 as a daily driver as its the Eagles turn for some much needed TLC so I can use it again when the roads are not seasoned with brine. The Eagle, believe it or not, gets right at 30 mpg.
Eventually we gave the Durango to the our daughter which she promptly traded in for a used Ford Focus.
So I guess the Patriot replaced the Durango.

SilverSlimer 08-30-2010, 09:40 AM I drove a Volvo s40 2001 1.9T. It was a nice little car but it was getting old. Besides, while the motor and transmission would likely never die, every other imaginable thing in it would always die on me.

headstone24 09-04-2010, 08:31 AM 2009 Pontiac Vibe, on a lease. Didn't mind the Vibe. Decent car, but I got tired of leasing and wanted a vehicle that would have some residual value that *I* would own.
I have to say, I'm not unhappy with the decision. Love my Patriot, nice step up from the Vibe, even given the similar price point.

It was nice until the warranty ran out. Then, two big engine problems. Later on serious rust just ahead of the rear wheel openings. I have seen that rust problem on most all that series of GM minivans, once they get about 6-7 years of age.
