Hi Milous!
thx for the Info

Just one question: does it mean that all Pats are 4x4 now and no 2 FWD Patriots anymore ?

2010 Jeep Patriot

Exterior colors

BRIGHT SILVER METALLIC CLEAR COAT
BRILLIANT BLACK CRYSTAL PEARL COAT
DEEP WATER BLUE PEARL COAT ($225)
INFERNO RED CRYSTAL PEARL COAT ($225)
LIGHT SANDSTONE MET. CLEAR COAT
NATURAL GREEN PEARL COAT (late availability)
STONE WHITE CLEAR COAT
SUNBURST ORANGE PEARL COAT
.

Hmmmmmm, looks like Jeep Green is joining the scrapbook of history in favor of new-kid-on-the-block Natural Green. Historically, has this color ever been used anywhere else in the Chysler/Dodge/Jeep/MOPAR lineup? If yes, pictures anyone?

Also since the winds of change are blowing and the subject is color, I would liked to have seen Rock Red Crystal Pearl replace Inferno Red, and Light Greystone Pearl replace or supplement Bright Silver.

Sadly, I've been waiting to order an Optic Green Patriot RME since first announced and it now appears I may never get the chance. Major Bummer. :(

.
Attenzione!!! Sergio Marchionne:

Please don't force me to buy a Subaru Forester AND keep your hands off Belvidere Assembly. I want a Jeep Patriot that's built (and built right) in Belividere, Illinois, just like my '98 Dodge Neon ACR and my mother's Plymouth station wagon many years before. If you must, build the Cinquecento (FIAT 500) in Toluca or even better import it from Italy because I don't think its' sales numbers will shake things up in North America and it certainly isn't going to save the company. Smart design and engineering for the American and Canadian markets will.

If you're going to 'give' us anything in exchange for the keys to the store handed to you by the powers that be, then for starters why not put together a good fuel efficient and powerful diesel option for the Patriot and other Jeep platforms that can be sold in North America.

.
Respectfully, Irish Waif

yuck, ..."Natural Green" ??? i haven't seen a vehicle with a regular natural green color in a LONG time. that was so...late 80's early 90's. well, there were some Ford Explorer in the mid-late 90's with a natural full green color.

how can they get rid of the Jeep Green ?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Irish Waif, at the risk of being put on a few American hit-lists, I agree with you. You are close to voicing what, to every European, is as obvious as the wart on their nose__Diesel will save the American automobile industry. Almost every single article that's ever been written on this site about diesel is thirty years out of date; it is erroneous rubbish. There have been articles about diesels that clatter and belch smoke and won't start in winter... and then the writer says he was describing his 1964 Dodge, or something just as irrelevant.
The diesels we drive do a hundred and five miles per hour (if it's a Jaguar diesel, a hundred and sixty miles per hour(!)), they have addititives that'll start easily in a Latvian winter, they do not belch smoke and they do forty miles per gallon. They are ALL turbo assisted, every one of them. It's a no brainer. America has only got to think "diesel" rather than "gas" and you can drive whatever vehicle you want. No need to start thinking about Sesame Street cars, no need to start worrying about biofuel and the Iowa economy nothing. I really don't see the problem. No European does.

diesel would be great, and would improve MPG's across the board...but it doesn't solve the energy dependence issue. we are trying to get away from oil all together...and while that may seem hard to do given our current state of dependence, i bet a lot of manufacturers are hesitant to start pouring tons and tons of R&D budgets into developing clean diesel engines if engines that run on oil will be abandoned all together.

diesel would be great on the interim...but i have the feeling that the administration is trying to accelerate fuel efficiency by skipping over diesel and moving to something more domestic, abundant, and cleaner. clean diesel with the nitrous oxide converter makes the vehicle cleaner than a prius, but the notion that the oil is from a refinery off shores still makes people want to get away from it.

i am all for a clean diesel vehicle though...and wish this country invested in the technology over a decade ago!

Biodiesel is the way to go. No need to depend on imported oil if you produce biodiesel.

Biodiesel is the way to go. No need to depend on imported oil if you produce biodiesel.

except all of the resources that go into making the bio-fuel...drives up the cost of food, domestic products, and land. it's a start...but we need something that's more that has less of an impact on resources.

i really think the way to go is electricity or fuel cell technology...and to support that we need to overhaul our nuclear program. invest and do more research into re-processing nuclear waste for energy (processes already exist but they are not considered reliable enough for full-scale electricity production). Canada has over 35% of the world's natural supply of Uranium. they will be the next "Middle East" so to speak...and we are poised to be the continent with the most energy potential since we are right in North America.

the real problem we face now is not electricity production, but battery technology. we are so far behind in battery technology that even if we develop a miracle way of making electricity from nothing at all...we don't have a means of efficiently storing that energy in a vehicle. our battery technology sucks in comparison to what we have the potential of doing energy wise...

Other than price going up, the only difference is addition & deletion of colors, & color door handle, color rear tailgate handle, (which is standard on the 09 RME) + the auto temp A/C for $155? Now, did i miss anything? (illuminated cup holders (finally, or TBD) & leather hand brake handle) "POWER 6 Way Driver Seats"!

With the 2010 pricing out, can we assume that they will no longer built the 09s??? As we head into July, & the plant is still closed.

I'd expect the Patriot's cost to keep rising with base models up in the 23-25K range in the next few years.

You are right JGG. The battery issue is so big that, for the moment at least, it means that electric cars can be neglected. A vehicle that does only 40 to 80 miles between fill-ups, that takes about three-quarters of an hour to fill ( so that every filling station has to be a Little Chef for the coffee and doughnuts you going to get through while the car's filling), that presents serious problems each time you run out (you can't hitch-hike up the road and bring 300 kilowatt-hours back in a jerry-can), that forces you, in winter, to choose between mileage and heating and that sets you back ten grand for a new battery is never going to be anything other than a rock star's fashion accessory.
Oh, and while folks might feel smug and saintly as they purr along with no exhaust fumes, for the moment, at least, all they're doing is leaving their exhaust fumes at the power station fifty miles away.

Rocal

In today's Times there's an article about some cockamamie electric sports car that does a hundred and thirty miles per hour. It costs a modest ninety-six thousand pounds ($170 000) so I might be getting one next Monday and, if I like it, one for my wife too.

4x2 models will still be available. I was going to add them to the list but ran out of time. Here is the pricing for 4x2:

The sales code for Natural Green (PGN) is the same code on the Chrysler paint chart for the color Timberline Green, which has been used on the Dodge Ram. A Google image search for "Dodge Ram Timberline Green" will bring up some examples.

Funny, I don't see anything in there about them making sure the 2010 models are leak proof. That should be their #1 upgrade.

"Timberline Green" was a beautiful color on the Dodge trucks. I am interested in seeing this on a Patriot, and glad that dark greens in general have made a comeback. :)

If I can't get an RME in Optic Green, I'll settle for a 2010 Patriot Sport in the new green.

Hmm, some interesting things. Power driver seat for the Limited. Heated side mirrors for E and F packages. Body colors door handles would be excellent!

BTW, the 4x4 Limited I have has an MSRP of $22,740 including the $225. color charge and $30 floor mats. From the build and price today for 2009 models, the Sports only went up less than $200 and the Limited $500, but the Limited includes some extras like the power seat and heated mirrors.

Oh, thanks, Milous, for the advanced information on 2010 models. We really enjoy seeing what the little changes are every year.

At the risk of sounding like a country hick in the big city...what's "touring suspension"? How does it differ from "off-road suspension" or even plain old ..."suspension"?

Hubby has sport and touring suspension in his 300ZX. I don't know the mechanics behind it, but the touring suspension offers a much smoother ride...I can definitely feel the diference when he flips the switch between the two.

Way to go DaveCanuk! :banana::smiley_thumbs_up:

Any guesses as to when 2010 Patriot/Compas will be available in the US? Anyone?

Didn't notice the Belvidere (sp?) plant on the list for plant reopenings after the proceedings. :blah:

Can we assume the Compass will be getting these updates too?! :friday:

I noticed the 2010 T&C and Grand Caravan are getting the AHR's as well. Plus the upcoming 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Looks like a company wide decision most likely. :huddle:

Irish Waif, at the risk of being put on a few American hit-lists, I agree with you. You are close to voicing what, to every European, is as obvious as the wart on their nose__Diesel will save the American automobile industry. Almost every single article that's ever been written on this site about diesel is thirty years out of date; it is erroneous rubbish. There have been articles about diesels that clatter and belch smoke and won't start in winter... and then the writer says he was describing his 1964 Dodge, or something just as irrelevant.

Rocal

if you get on anyone's hit list for saying that you will be in good company as there are a lot of Intelligent sensible people on that list already.

A lot of us would love to see Diesel engines in the US cars, SUV's and trucks. Our fuel independence could be easily resolved by using our own resources and I do not mean using food (corn) to make fuel. There are too many starving people in this world we should be feeding instead of using it in our cars. There are several possibilities to eventually replace oil products but for now we need to use what we have---OIL.

Not trying to change the thread just answering a neighbors question.

are these the canadian specs? i was looking at the fuel economy and it says that that FDII MPG's are 27(city) and 30(highway). i'm guessing that canada rates their MPG's differently than the EPA b/c this seems EXTREMELY high.

in the US... it's 20(city) and 22(highway)

does anyone have the US brochures yet? i am anxious to find out if the Lifetime Powertrain & Engine Warranty will still be in existence for the 2010 Jeep Patriot.

if it's expected that once Fiat's plans get implemented that the Lifetime Warranty will go away, i think i might go out and purchase preemptively just so i can get this warranty.

my plans were to purchase a Jeep Patriot in 1 1/2 years from now, when i become a GS-12 with the army. if in 1 1/2 years from now there won't be a comparable model, let alone the fact that the Lifetime Warranty will not be included on vehicles...then i might just by a 2010 Patriot at the end of this calendar year (end of 2009).

Glad I gor the Jeep green!

getting rid of the Jeep Green was a BIG mistake in my opinion. going for a "woody green" is going to look very ugly on the Patriot. i think it's an ugly color...how can you have a Jeep model without the "Jeep Green".

up here in Northern New Jersey (morris county) the majority of the Patriots i see are Jeep Green. the other colors i have seen are white, black, and i saw a surf blue patriot on a used dealer lot.

At my house we have a four foot yardstick .. I kid you not. Très cool.

The 48" wooden rule was a promotional item from a local hardware store dating back to the Sixties or early Seventies. The three kids grew up thinking 48 inches equalled a yard, and it's been all downhill ever since.

To clarify, I ordered a 2009 Patriot North with upgrades and they are sending a 2010 North with the same upgrades for the same price.

Advertising folders for the 2010's aren't available 'til late August early September so that fits in with October delivery.

ROCKFORD — Chrysler Group LLC is raising the suggested retail price of its Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot models between 4.4 percent and 5.4 percent for the 2010 model year, the company announced last week.

The company, which is now controlled by Italian automaker Fiat SpA, hasn’t released pricing for a several of its models, including the Dodge Caliber. The Caliber, Compass and Patriot are assembled by about 1,700 workers at Chrysler’s assembly plant in Belvidere.

But it’s not unusual for the company to increase the suggested price even in such a severe recession, experts say, because ultimately the MSRP means little.

“The manufacturers put such heavy incentives on vehicles that nobody really pays attention,” said Erich Merkle of Autoconomy.com. The average automotive manufacturer incentive was $2,735 per vehicle in July, according to Edmunds.com. “It may mean something on the Internet, though, because people tend to search for vehicles in certain price ranges.”

One thing Merkle, who heads the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Autoconomy.com, is certain of is that there are few price changes left for the vehicles in the Caliber era. Chrysler launched the line in 2006.

“There may be a 2011 model year, but I doubt they’ll change the prices,” Merkle said. “They’ll stop manufacturing those three in 2010 and begin building a subcompact for Chrysler and Dodge in 2011.”

When launched, the Caliber created long waiting lists and was one of the strongest domestic car launches of the decade.

But its underpowered engine and plastic interior soon curtailed enthusiasm and its sales have been carried by fleet buyers. The Compass caught on in Europe, but lagged everywhere else. The Patriot had the most promise and actually outsold the Caliber in the U.S. for the first time in July. It’s unlikely to survive Fiat’s cutting floor, though, despite its strong design ties to the old Jeep Cherokee.

Merkle said workers at the plant won’t be building Fiat’s small car, the 500, or any of its variants, which is expected to be built at Chrysler’s plant in Toluca, Mexico. Instead, Merkle believes Belvidere workers will be building a car based on Fiat’s Punto, a supermini that Fiat began building in 1993 and now is in its third generation.

Merkle doesn’t anticipate Chrysler to announce manufacturing changes this year, though.

“Fiat is still trying to figure out capacity,” Merkle said. “Chrysler is going to have to shut down more plants or find companies willing to utilize them, but there aren’t many opportunities out there.”

The more important question you should ask is since you ordered a 2009( which comes with a lifetime powertrain warranty) and getting a 2010(100,000 mile powertrain, not lifetime) is which warranty you are getting?

Up until now and for the forseeable future all product from Jeep, Chrsyler and Dodge for the Canadian market have only come with a maximum of 100,000km or 5 yrs powertrain waranty. Unfortunately we were never offered the lifetime powertrain waranty as in the US :(

Since rubles is in Canada, this doesn't effect them.

Good Question. At a certain point in time manufacturers open the "order book" to encourage orders for the new model year. At the same time the "build out" for the previous model year is designated and the previous factory order book closed.
Reports have had the Belvidere plant running shifts during August, this is past the "build out" date for the 2009 MY. In our case though, with no significant changes for 2010 MY they should be able to move into 2010 production reasonably quickly.
You ordered at the beginning of July, 8 weeks gets you to end of August which of course makes no sense since they don't start making them till 9/21. But you are at the front of the order book so I would suggest within 4 weeks of the 9/21 date. Being on that side of the country also works in your favour.

Dave and Milous for the excellent info and pics.

On checking my sales contract order date June 26 so hopefully I'll get my hands on it early October:smiley_thumbs_up:

I'm not sure if it's the long lead time or because it's my first JEEP (I don't normally get excited about vehicles) because I'm really looking forward to to its arrival. This is the first time I've looked at after market add on products. The first thing I plan is to find those light reflective decals (for fun) and the body/door side moldings (practicality) and maybe a licence plate frame "It's a Jeep, you wouldn't understand" (for fun). And I never thought I'd be driving Inferno Red anything:pepper:

search ebay under "jeep patriot bumper insert"
But be sure to order your jeeppatriot.com decal:smiley_thumbs_up: as your first aftermarket accessory
secondly, paint muffler (I used high heat bbq paint)
thirdly, ......

It's a Jeep thing

Any idea what "tip start" is for CVT models?

davecanuck
09-01-2009, 12:50 PM
Found this on an edmunds blog

Tip Start is part of the electronics that cranks the engine over until it gets a signal to the computer that the engine has started. This was done so that people will not crank over a started engine,or that you cannot engage the starter too long. This was done for warranty purposes. It may be possible for the dealer to de-activate the Tip Start feature but you will have to ask them about it

The presentation of the Sport and North Edition are the same :
Same base, same options. So what is typical of the North Edition just the name and badge? There should be a package linked to that model in my opinion. If not, a base Sport model could have the same options as a North Edition model without being a North Edition specifically. :BLAM:

Continuously Variable Transaxle w/Off-Road Crawl Ratio - $1,050
Automatic variable-speed transmission with manual mode and low/high gear ranges DAW and continuously trans with manual mode; Drive speed limited (manual only) and crawl control; Requires: [AWL] Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group; Excludes: [DAV] Continuously Variable Transaxle II

This means what I think it does? Has autostick been added to FDII? This might eliminate the stalls people have talked about when going up steep hills.

100% for certain the new OM651 diesel will be offered in the 2010 Patriot export models...

From a post I made in May of 2008:

"In the 2010 model year (Patriot) export models will get an all-new diesel..." (http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showpost.php?p=72228&postcount=16)

It is 2.2l Mercedes Common rail diesel (real not rebagged TDi) and will have 163hp and 320Nm of torque. I believe that new 6speed gearbox will be as well with longer 6th gear for lower rpms and better economy!

When I ordered my 2009 Pat the 100,000 powertrain warranty was included.

(PGJ) Jeep Green final build 8/14/09*
NATURAL GREEN PEARL COAT (Late availability)

IOW anyone wanting a green Patriot is out of luck for the next year?

Is it any wonder that Chrysler is having problems when the people in charge make stupid decisions like this?

Jeep Green is gone from the line-up in 2010; replaced by "natural green", whatever that is. It probably will stay Jeep Green until they replace it later in the m/y.

The factory said that the REN was unavailable for the 2010 Limited... so I had to upgrade to the RER to finish production on my Riot... I didn't want the GPS since i'm currently overseas and it doesn't do me any good, but I still wanted uConnect... I have my TomTom for nav. Any thoughts as to why they wouldn't make the REN available?

With production startup 9/21 and if you are near the start of the line then maybe 4 weeks max. equals late October delivery (just a guess though)

Good news, I got confirmation from the dealership yesterday, the estimated ship date for my 2010 'riot is Sept 23 and a week or 2 after than to get it delivered/prepped etc.! :pepper: BTW I originally ordered at the beginning of June a '09 RME but they converted it to a 2010 model with the same features (just not sure if it will have the RME badging or not).

Had to wait a little time (this is me being sarcastic).

Can't wait to get it!

I know we have a lot of people on this forum with connections to the car industry (and Chrysler/Jeep in particular), so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the true cost of the Patriot? I'm not talking about "invoice" cost to the dealer...I am talking about actual production cost that Chrysler then marks up to invoice to sell to dealers etc. I know this might be proprietary, so I would understand if people couldn't give an exact #, so maybe a range within a few hundred would be sufficient.

[QUOTE=Camas;181126]Here's some more new features...
“They’ll stop manufacturing those three in 2010 and begin building a subcompact for Chrysler and Dodge in 2011.”
...and the price is going up...

This article scares me... I don't want to purchase a vehicle that will go out of production in a year... Any thoughts ? Any counter information ?

davecanuck
09-22-2009, 06:07 PM
The article is but one person's opinion, it might be true it might not. Subsequent articles in the press seem to focus on Fiat saying "oh it's a bigger mess than we thought". Ya, so, next please.

Those of us here at JeepPatriot.com figure they could sell thousands more of these beauties if they started advertising properly.
Your decision should be based on many factors other then manufacture, comfort, fuel economy, use, etc.
