: Cabin air filter location/retrofit?
tempersix 06-24-2007, 06:26 PM Hello, new owner here and I was wondering if it was possible to install a cabin air filter into a Patriot which did not originally come with one. Also, where is it located? I searched the forums and RTFM, but have not found the answer. Thanks for any responses. By the way, I traded an '07 Mustang GT for the Patriot...the Patriot is much smoother and somewhat quieter, if a little (ok, a lot) slower...
dougep 06-24-2007, 07:11 PM Congrats on the Patriot! As per custom well pioneered by BigDuke 6 and carried on by others,
:worthless:
http://www.berrysprinter.com/07MK.pdf
page 318 shows item #19 as part #05058381AA as a filter, but I can't spot it on the diagram. But my guess would be an access panel above the passenger footwell. And, I would also guess an empty slot will already be present just waiting for a filter. Good luck!
goebel1 06-24-2007, 08:19 PM I just look at mine the filter is inside and behind the glove box
tempersix 06-24-2007, 08:24 PM Thank you for the info-I'll do a little exploring and let folks know. I'll do pics after the front window tint drys out and de-foggifies.
srothfuss 06-25-2007, 08:01 AM I believe that you can drop the glove box and the filter location should be right there. Push the two tabs inwards and it'll slide right out towards you...
hunter44102 07-24-2007, 10:21 AM Has anyone confirmed whether the Cabin air filtration can be added to a Patriot?
I know the FDII versions come with it but I'm wondering if the regular sport or limited have the slot for the filter and whether its as simple as putting in the filter, or could there be different fans or other parts involved?
lewis4246 07-24-2007, 10:42 AM the empty slot is behind the clove box just waiting for a filter
hunter44102 07-24-2007, 10:44 AM I wonder if it uses the same one that the PT Cruiser uses (I couldn't find one for the Patriot):
http://www.autotrucktoys.com/ptcruiser/Chrysler-PT-Cruiser-Cabin-Air-Filter-C2031.aspx
I will call the dealer and order one.
lewis4246 07-24-2007, 11:22 AM I just looked at the filter on that page and it does not look like it will fit. Drop you clove box and look at the hole for the filter. It is quite slim

Yes, I believe that the Caliber, the Compass, and the Patriot can all use that same filter dougep mentioned (Mopar part #05058381AA). Of course, you could use just about any multi-element filter of the same dimensions too.
Has anyone done this retro-fit sucessfully? How can you confirm if you have a cabin filter already installed from the factory? I'm thinking I do not and would like to have one since it definitely helped out my allergies with my previous cars.
srothfuss 08-14-2007, 08:13 PM Guys (and gals)
The HVAC case is exactly the same on the Partiot, Caliber, Compass, Sebring, & Avenger. I can't confirm the PT cruiser but I doubt it.
The cars that don't come with the cabin filter installed can simply drop the glove box. Remove the plastic cover (with the two tabs that I mentioned) and insert the filter. IT is really easy!

Thanks, can you confirm the correct part number and estimated cost?
srothfuss 08-15-2007, 07:56 AM I don't work at Chrysler anymore so I can't look up the P/N for you but I will see what I can come up with... Estimated cost should be around $20.00 for the filter and about 5 minutes to install it.
srothfuss 08-15-2007, 08:02 AM Ask and you shall receive: [coppied from Jeff@MPSC]
"We have done some research on this and we found that the cabin filter is located right behind the glove box. The filter can be added at anytime by dropping the glove box and opening the door on the blower housing and inserting the filter. The filters are p/n 5081358aa and they will cost you 12.00 plus shipping. Here is a link to the install pdf file: Corrected Link (http://www.moparsupercenter.com/bb/uploads/Caliber_Compass_Cabin_Air.pdf)"

JeepFan 08-15-2007, 11:03 AM Try this for the part.

Probably doesn't matter, but there is a slight difference in part number on that one.
I'm sure we can just call the parts dept at the dealer and ask for part #05058381aa. Which is what is listed in the Patriot Parts Manual.
Jim
JeepFan 08-15-2007, 11:25 AM You are right. I think that was the one for the PT cruiser.
Here's the installation link for the Patriot/Compass/Caliber:

Sorry about the link screwup... I should have verified my Copy/Paste operation before blabing that I'd found the answer to the question.

I've gone back to my original post and edited in the correct link to use for future inquiries into the matter.
Local dealer was able to find it under part # 5058381aa (without the leading zero) for around $14.00 and some change. I'm going to call back and order one this evening.
Picked it up at the dealer today, installed the filter in less than 3 minutes. Should prove to be a good investment for $16.76.
Dmentd_Dan 08-17-2007, 07:45 PM just wanted to say thanks to everyone who asked the questions and to those who answered them! This is the type of information wouldn't be available w/o you fine folks and this website. I am soooo happy I joined this site!
MrSensible 08-17-2007, 08:42 PM The other more obvious answer is to open the slot and measure the slot L, W and H. I am positive that Mopar doesn't make the filter. It has to be an OEM filter relabled Mopar and I doubt it was "custom made" to CRX's specs.
Once you have the dimensions a little research should locate a workable substitute at probably a quarter the cost. Personally, knowing the how's and why's of procurement for these kind of things I'd start with 3M.
nearly.normal.jimmy 08-17-2007, 09:28 PM Or you can order the correct part(#5058381aa) from the dealer and be done with it.

Yep, called the dealership, gave them part number 5058381AA and they had it in two days, fits the slot perfectly.
NoneRequired 08-19-2007, 01:23 AM I haven't dropped the glovebox to look yet, but my owners manual (2008) says that the filter comes with the security group, which I have. Anyone check on an '08 yet?
MYITLOG 10-05-2007, 10:59 AM i checked by 08 and it did not come with cabin air filter... mine does not come with the security group...
NoneRequired 10-05-2007, 06:02 PM Since my last post in this thread, I've added the filter. The parts guy at a local dealership ordered it for me (and 2 for his stock). It was $16 and some change inc'l tax out the door. Cheap upgrade if ya ask me...
metalhead 02-03-2008, 01:18 PM So why don't all models come with the filter? I know its a good thing. I had one in my 2000 silverado. They do a great job of keeping the air clean inside the vehicle especially if you have allergys like me.

yea but they are going to gripe over a filter that they charge what 16 bucks for and probably even less to make. With the world full of people with allergies you would think they would all have some kind of filter as standard. Well maybe when I go to the dealership to buy a patriot I could use the in cabin filter as a bargaining chip. Include it with the deal or I walk.:Na_Na_Na_Na:
I stopped by the dealer at lunch. He had a filter, $21.95 plus tax. I bought it and popped it in while in the parking lot.
Think I will order on line next time.
How often between changing filters?
hunter44102 03-27-2008, 01:02 PM Just to let everyone know that Jeep changed the part number for the cabin air filter (they changed suppliers). The new number is 05058693AA
(or 5058693-AA in a different format).
I paid $14.95 + $1.16 tx, $16.11 total.
here is a place selling it online for $13.60: http://jeep.dealerfit.com/store/jeep-compass-cabin-air-filter-prod204_18302.php
I'm guessing it should last about 6-8 months depending on the air quality. I will inspect it every few months.
TK jeep 06-16-2011, 01:55 PM I looked today and YES even the sport non trail rated has a place for a filter it did not have one installed(cheap skates) but it is their waiting for a filter. so I am putting one in it they spray a lot of cow S*** up here and lots of dead skunks around too..thanks i would have never looked if I had not seen this thread.
Vultite 06-16-2011, 03:54 PM yeah, jeep dealerships won't even sell me a cabin air filter b/c its not a limited model and they play it off like my jeep can't accept one...really? think I'd ask for a filter if there wasn't a effin slot for it you effin retard?? I really hate people sometimes...anyways, Napa sells them for pretty cheap, perfect fit.

Your frustration made me laugh, but only because i've been there myself with my former dealership. Glad I found another dealership close enough to where i live that is top notch.
renospatriot 06-17-2011, 10:23 PM I purchased mine from Pep Boys 9.99 + tax. Only to find out it was installed by the dealer already. I changed it regardless because it was filthy after 3 months.
patriotjeep 06-18-2011, 12:21 AM hi gang i just replaced my cabin air filter this week its been almost a year, a year next month. i went to advanced auto parts and purchased a cabin air filter part number purolator c25869 for $9.76. the filter is the same dimensions as the one that came in it.
Patriot Metal 06-19-2011, 02:10 PM Has anyone confirmed whether the Cabin air filtration can be added to a Patriot?
I know the FDII versions come with it but I'm wondering if the regular sport or limited have the slot for the filter and whether its as simple as putting in the filter, or could there be different fans or other parts involved?
My 2011 Pat Sport came with a cabin filter. Cool...

TheDeadInMe 01-10-2012, 04:41 PM the dealership we stopped going to wants 110 to replace this. Should i report them to the consumer people here in town?
cpole17 01-10-2012, 07:47 PM Sounds like a typical dealer. Consider a 300% mark up on the part (now $30) and then say 30 minutes labour, despite it being a 5 minute job ($60) plus taxes....that does not surprise me.
$110? I would laugh in their face. And then I'd ask them to repeat it to me, and laugh again.
dixiedawg 01-11-2012, 07:32 AM I think, after a rebate, I paid like $1.50 for mine, plus around $6 for shipping. Less than 5 minutes to pull the old one out and replace it.

Amazon says it fits. I'm going to order a few.
dixiedawg 01-31-2012, 01:48 PM That's a good price, and Amazon is always good to deal with, in my experience. Add a few more things and you should get free shipping too.
I got mine on sale from RockAuto, and it;s the carbon one too.
ralphfr 01-31-2012, 01:59 PM I ordered 2 and while I was at it I ordered 1 for my wife's Forester. Dealer charged her $80 last time. Got the free shipping on both. Thanks DIXIEDAWG.

I just installed the same one I bought from PepBoys for the same price. To confirm it does fit.
Metaxa 01-31-2012, 06:36 PM This place is so cool.
I keep a pen and paper beside me as I read back into the threads, or when they pop up like this one did under "new posts" and jot down the hints, tricks and etc. Then transfer that into an electronic document I keep on a thumb drive so I can take it to my mechanic.
so when my tie rod ends do go I won't have to hunt for a thread, I just look into the computer document I keep and see that it is Moog I want.
I may not say thanks every thread, every post but you all (and you know who you are) have my never-ending gratitude and thanks.
ralphfr 02-01-2012, 12:17 PM Thanks TJN. Good to know!:)
the_jeep_now 02-02-2012, 12:02 AM Yes, of course. This way you still save and don't have to wait for it to be shipped.
