. . . are drivers who drive with their fog/driving lights on and don't dim them to oncoming traffic. A lot of the newer vehicles' fog/driving lamps are like a set of high beams. Ford trucks and SUVs seem to have the brightest lamps--at least to me.

Remember, be courteous and dim those fog/driving lamps to oncoming traffic. It's a simple way to make the roads safer.

I have never even heard of anyone turning off their fog lights for oncoming traffic, are you sure its the fog lights that are blinding you and not someones brights?

You know I didn't know this but I had a 2003 Olds Alero and when I had them on dim my fog lights were on, put them on high they'd go off. Mine weren't very bright and was pointless in having them.

I know where your coming from with the fog lights. Seems like some fog lights are as big as the headlights and they kill the eyes.

My pet peeve is people who drive in the fast lane and are not driving fast. Drives me nuts especially when I want to pass someone.
Another one is not using turn signals or get right on top of their turn and use them.

No, it is not their brights. As stated in my post it is their failure to dim their fog/driving lights.

Each state would probably have different codes regarding the use of driving/fog lights, I would be interested in knowing what Indiana's would be (if there are any).

This is what I found for the state I live in

Parking Lights: Use only when parked
Fog Lights: Use with low beams. Not more than 4 lights can be used at any one time

Perhaps the confusion comes from the fact that some cars do not have the ability to "dim" their fog lights. They are either on or off. Maybe some cars do have this dimming feature on their fog lights, but I've never had one.

When I said "dim", what I meant was have the courtesy to turn off their fog lights.

I think if aimed properly, they would not bother any other drivers. Fog or driving lights are intended to light the road surface, below where the headlights are illuminating. I can tell when mine are on or off, by looking below the light "spread" of the headlights.

So, perhaps this is not so much "turn 'em off" as have them aimed correctly. I am confident state laws everywhere pretty much require them to be aimed away from oncoming traffic.

Just like other laws: 2 headlights (functioning and correctly aimed), 2 tail/brakelights plus High Mount Stop Lamp (HMSL), signal before turns and lane changes, obey speed limits, full stops at signs/lights, etc. But, no one wants to be hassled unnecessarily by the popo, and certainly not because a fog light was badly aimed.

This isn't about being harassed by the police. What is so hard about being courteous to oncoming traffic? Geesh.

I hate drivers who talk on the cellphones. Its been illegal in NY for a couple years now, but every other driver has one plastered to their ear.

Oregon is talking about adopting the no talking on cell phones in vehicles. I've came close to getting hit by a lady who was talking on her and not paying attention.

As for the fog lights, I think we people mount them their selves they forget about aiming them. OR when buying them "brighter is better!" That's one thing my hubby didn't want me to get on my Jeep. He said No fog lights, think of the other people that have to look at them.
I will tell you, I hate driving home in the dark anymore. It's more so because of some of the fog lights that are as big as one's driving lights and are as bright. I think all headlights and fog lights on all rigs need to be the same wattage.

I do know there are some rude people on the road who drive with bright lights and don't turn them to dim. I've had to flick lights to get them to dim them. I understand the whole be courteous, I think some people have forgot what it's like. Make things hard when your on a two lane rural highway.

My main point was that they must be aimed correctly. And in order to prevent bothering oncoming traffic, surely there is a law. But, sadly, it is never enforced: Police don't bother, and no one wants to be bothered.

Text messaging while driving. I have personally witnessed two wrecks due to this. One of my co-workers just got injured when he was hit while stopped on his bike (pedal) by a person paying too much attention to their cellphone. His helmet shattered the windshield.

I hate drivers who don't consider those behind them when choosing lanes at stoplights. This usually happens when there are two lanes and neither is designated as a turning lane.
ie Driver going straight, has two unmarked lanes to choose from, red light, nobody in front of him in either lane, sits through whole red light blocking right lane so nobody can turn right on red. (legal here)
Or this one: Driver turning left sits through red light in left lane, no blinker, you think he is going straight so you pull in behind. Light turn green, driver puts on left blinker and waits through whole green for opposing traffic, then darts through as yellow turns red. You can't change lanes and have to wait for the next light.
Or this: lane is more than wide enough for two cars with no lane divider marked. Driver sits smack in middle of lane waiting to turn left and nobody can get by on the right. Same thing waiting to go straight for red light, nobody can turn right. Or waiting for red light where there is a right turning lane they leave a whole car length between their car and the car in front, blocking the right turn lane, which would be open if they moved forward a couple of feet.

I hate it when you use your signal to change lanes and the person next to you takes that to mean there's too much space in front of her so she closes the gap leaving you no place to change lanes anymore.

In some states you can get a ticket for driving with the Fog's on when there isn't any inclimate weather to justify the use of these lights. Up until 2001 there was a federal law in the U.S. that madated the Fog's could only be operated when the low beams were on. In 2002 that law expired and now people can drive around with just the fog lights on.

I don't mind the fogs if they are mounted low. But when they are on a truck and I'm driving in the wifes car I really can see your point.

I hate drivers who talk on the cellphones. Its been illegal in NY for a couple years now, but every other driver has one plastered to their ear.

Not only is this annoying - it's also very dangorus. I really try to minimize any talking to less than a few seconds if it is important. Otherwise, I'm paying attention to my surroundings and trying to not get plastered by the IT-10-T in the next lane over.

I hate it when you use your signal to change lanes and the person next to you takes that to mean there's too much space in front of her so she closes the gap leaving you no place to change lanes anymore.

Signals are a great invention - I use them everywhere except in a parkinglot... Which leads me to my pet peeve: People who drive across the parking lot without yeilding to traffic following the painted lanes. :(

People that replace their own headlights without spending the extra time to aim them correctly. You see them with one low beam pointing straight down on the road and the other somewhere over on the left shoulder!
