Since all our Pats are new, and, I assume, will be "shedding" some metal for a while, I was wondering if anyone is using magnets on the oil filter to catch the shavings. Also, is the oil drain plug magnetic?

Is that what's really happening? Debris or "bits" of metal shavings at the bottom of our oil pans?

If so, magentic oil drain plugs would be ideal. But I've never heard of metal shavings and what not building up unless if your motor is fallin apart and isn't properly maintained.

I might be wrong. Could anyone shed some light?

I had a '63 Coupe de Ville that shed an entire piston from its 390. To remedy the problem, they used a huge magnet, which lifted the car off the flatbed and into the crusher....

Bobbyt, you probably have a neck chain from your Night Fever days that would do the job.:D

I thought that oil filters were meant to catch those small filings. Today, however, the problem should not exist.

Curious, does anybody know how many different cylinder sizes GEMA uses for the 2.4L? I remember Ford had 17 different sizes to balance the 3.0L v6 on the Taurus back in the 80s.
